Yeah, double links, Pro-style :D
Nice!
The graphics are nice, the robot is easy to control, it's a fun maze/platforming game. I managed to find Timmy, even if I wouldn't be surprised if he wakes up with a 3rd arm given how much I exposed him to the radiations! ^^
If I had to niptick, I'd say it lacks a bit of music. And I didn't truly understand the superspeed, the turbojump and the teleport mechanics, but it doesn't matter. Well done! :)
@linky439 : Yeah I gave up on music, I really need to practice this someday, but for now I think practicing pixelart would be a little more rewarding :D
Nice graphics and execution. Maze wasn't really much of a challenge, but still it was a nice experience.
``` $ ./LD39 Called from /usr/share/haxe/std/neko/_std/EReg.hx line 200 Uncaught exception - load.c(237) : Failed to load library : ./regexp.ndll (libpcre.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory) ``` You should ship pcre with your build. I have it installed, but version 3 sounds too ancient.
This game is awesome. I love the pixel art and the gameplay. It took me a couple of attempts to grasp what the game expects me to do but then I had lots of fun. It's quite challenging though. I'd like to see more rescue missions with Robot and Timmy. Daylight and radiation were a bit hard to see sometimes, some animation like dust particles may would improve visibility.
**Arch users beware:** I had a problem starting the game on Arch Linux. To fix it I changed to the extracted directory and then ran `ln -s /usr/lib/libpcre.so.1 ./libpcre.so.3`. Then I could launch the game with `LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ./LD39`. :smile:
@gagapete btw I use arch, thanks.
This is a brilliant and engaging game! Pixel art is great, bfxr was put to a good use, and energy mechanic along with warp worked out great and made the game.
Things I liked - picking up timmy - clear goal that wasn't combat - simple clean graphics
Things for improvement - would be nice to have the abilites listed in game - some background music - some in game instructions on where to go.
comments: - I would have used WASD instead of SDF for movement as that is the norm - Linux port ran fine - how did timmy survive getting down there?
Congrats! You got a lot accomplished in just 48 hours. I couldn't rescue Timmy but that's my own fault.
Thanks everyone for the feedback :D
That's funny how some people found the game either really hard or too easy, meaning the balance is enough for a game jam I guess ? :D I should definitly have made instructions clearer and maybe added some ingame instructions/tutorial (or just be better at map design to guide the player effortlessly)
Thanks you for the help on the linux build @gagapete and @starlight-glimmer-is-best-poney, this is the first time I'm trying a linux release, I'll try to figure out how to inclue this to the build :P
I guess it's not going to be that easy to definitly move away from windows :P
@jason-kennedy Timmy is obviously very very strong, look at his arm ! :D
This looks like a lot of fun! Any chance for a Mac or web version?
@simonhutchinsom I already tried a HTML5 version but the performances were super crap. I won't have a mac available at home until the end of august. I'll try sneakily using one at work :)
Yeah! Good game! The difficulty is perfect, not so easy but not so hard!
That great robot save this stupid Timmy (the little brother of Jean-Bobby). I really enjoy play your game! Nice work!
So bad there is no music :(
Maybe remember how to pick Timmy, cause I was lost at the bot of the cavern ^^
@vivoubos Yeah I promise next LD I make some kind of reminder/tutorial message pop-up at every important event to help the player remember what he needs to know :P (No promise on the music though, but I'll try to have at least something)
That was nice. This is well done: The graphics are cool, the control is good. It miss some music (even a very simple beat would be fine). I see some csv and tmx files in your asset folder, some additional levels could be nice too.
It works fine, it is complete, good job.
Finished the game and it was fun enough to do so! The art was good. Though I didn't like the sound effects. Especially the loud explosionjump. Speaking of which. The special moves didn't seem essential to the gameplay. So why have them? Only for kicks? I did use them for kicks however. :) Other than that, original take on the theme and I particularly liked the various power sources that could be used. Good entry!
Even though blink teleporting used a ton of energy such a fun shortcut addition in a maze. It took me awhile to figure out how to recharge, wish the battery had a glow or something around it when I got close to an area.
Really cool and interesting game play the robots abilities and the radiation sources add to the game. Just wondering how long timmy would continue to live after I rescued him. xD No, this is really a good quality work you delivered here :D Nice one!
Hi ! I installed haxe on my Mac to play this game and it works really well !
I loved how the character say "hey" when I ran out of battery on the way back :laughing: And the "fly" ability reminds me of E.T. on Atari ! Anyway, I liked the graphics and the level design :smiley:
@damdoshi You would not believe how long it took to make this level. I wanted a giant level fun to navigate through. At first it was supposed to be 128x512, but I had to make it 32x128 (after a brief 64x256 try) because... well... time :sob:
@estebe I tried making cool special moves, so it's not another boring plateformer, and then I built the map. I guess to really push the player to use them I need a better map :grin:
@ultrarat Recharging places do actually have a blinking glow around them, but maybe not visible enough. That's one thing I need to improve next time, having a way to make sure people are seeing what they are supposed to see. (Really hard with a cheap monitor not really well calibrated)
@guckstift Actually, Timmy became a journalist in 2032 after a very brief wrestler career (He's still somehow really popular in Nigeria). He got married soon after but don't want any children because he's worried about the state of the planet :pensive:
@yopox Timmy actually says "hey" everytime you pick him up, because he doesn't like being picked-up ! :smiley:
Fun little game, but I did not find myself using the abilities (boost, teleport etc) a whole lot. The graphics are a pleasure to my eyes, but some music would be nice too. Great entry
Really great work, kinda short, but fun nonetheless! I did not use too much of the boost, but the explodo-jump and the teleport, they were really useful while playing the game! The graphics and audio fx were really nice and well executed too, and controls worked like a charm for the game mechanic you thought of. ;)
Also, great work with Haxeflixel! I wanted to try my hand at it, but ended up going for GameMaker again. Nicely done there! ;)
Good job, Good Luck! :D
Very nice graphics and map design. I like exploration non-combat platformers, not that many out there.
