Really hard game but very fun. Reminds me a bit of I Wanna Be the Guy because of the dropping bombs.

Really hard game but very fun. Reminds me a bit of I Wanna Be the Guy because of the dropping bombs.
Fun game but as souperstrawer said, super hard. I think some health pickups would help.
The levels were interesting but I only got to see a couple as I kept dying :)
Great job though, very fun.
@pitpony Was going to create health pickups, but didn't have time :/ Thanks for the feedback, though :)
Cool Game ! It reminds me of MegaMan XD. It feels good and looks cute :)
Nice game but the sound was not working for me but i noticed that you had a sound effects folder. Do you have a youtube video of the gameplay with sounds? Would love to hear the style you went for.
Made to the boss in level 3 a few times. I enjoyed the game but did get frustrated at how much work it took to get to the boss only to be one shot killed by it despite having a ton of life left. I think it would be a bit less frustrating with a checkpoint for getting to the boss (or even simpler, make the boss it's own level). Very challenging games can be okay so long as the retry loop is tight, but in this case you have a longer level with a lot of timed jumps to repeat to get to the boss and after a while that can get frustrating.
@Sprouts Hey, there! Yes, I know. The soundeffects aren't working for some people. I think it is because of some errors with the framework I am using (monogame). I can link you some gameplay of the game (with sound).
Man these bombs... :'( Nice game you've got there, maybe you could only have one power bar instead of power + life. The graphics were ok and the floating jumps made combat against policeman more interesting.
@dalinblue I understand your frustration. The game isn't a "fair" game, there are many places where you die instantly without seeing it coming (like missiles). Making an own level for the boss would have helped a lot, anyway thanks for the critic :D
That's hard! But it was quite fun. Don't really like the jump though
@Sprouts Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f34ig1BNB7k&feature=youtu.be Sorry for the black borders on the side!
Pretty solid little platformer. Loved the cute robot :)
Cool game ! I really like how the second bomb is placed...
Nice game, and I suggest not to use "Z and X", as there are qwertz keyboards. :P
@ginger9 I will remember that next time! Thanks
Hey I jut played your game, that was a really good one for a first LD ! Congrats ! * There are explanations, * This is graphically very good and consistent * The sounds totally match, I would have like a little music but it works like this * The controls are smooth, hard to manage to avoid the bullets but this is my problem,not yours haha * I got stuck at the (apparently) last platform of second level, didn't know where to go ^^ * I didn't kill the villagers, nor all the policemen and the game does'nt care; I like this freedom BUT, is it why i've been blocked ? If so, I still like it but it needs to be mentionned haha
Thanks for the fun, be proud of you !
@vegevan Thank you so much! Yes, the only way to progress to the next level is by killing all the humans and policemen.
Fun platformer! Nice and simple, and quite challenging in a good way.
Hey great game I didn't make it past the boss, a checkpoint there would have kept me trying for a while longer though. Fun, pretty decent controls (the jump is a bit floaty) graphics are nicely done and being able to play as a killer robot is guaranteed fun. Nice to see someone using monogame too. Excellent job, especially for a first LD
Thanks for all the support guys! I appreciate all the critic and praise I get!
Well done!
@automatonvx Thanks for the praise! Let's hope monogame will get more and more popular ;)
I kind of like it. Love the graphism. I would choose another keys for the gameplay. Keep moving forward.
@kthulhu1947 Thank you! I will try to use other keys next time!
Not bad. Congrats on the submission. I'm super glad your file size was small :). I didn't get beyond stage 2. I was overwhelmed by the po po. I retried a few times but gave up. Do you have a boss battle in the game? Or is that a secret :D
@kidando I do! ;) Its in the next level
Nice Game! But, kinda hard!
Not a bad game! Really liked the pixel art style. Would have been a little nice to have some background music at least during the menus. Otherwise it was a lot of fun to play!
Great game, love simple controls :D
@xeinix Thank you! My music skills is lacking, but I hope to have improved to the next ludum dare ;)
@egordorichev Thanks! I like your game too. The pixel art and controls are amazing!
K1LL 4LL HUM4N5
That was really fun :) could not get passed the second levels end at first but the I did the same as in the video gameplay and voila!
This is a solid platformer and the controls are tight. The graphics are really simple and cute, but crucially they're coherent so for that you score highly on graphics! My general feedback on how to improve it would be:
-I didn't like the placement of the jump button. Personally, I would have switched the recharge and jump buttons, or better yet, allow the player to customise the button layout.
-It gets a bit hard, but mostly because of the above control issue. That's not an issue in and of itself, but having to do the easy start of the level each time I die gets a little grating. Adding checkpoints mid-level would help mitigate that.
-If you were to continue this, more enemy variety would be cool. Both the player and the enemies were only able to shoot sideways, but I would have found it useful to shoot in more directions. You seem to have been trying to make things a bit tricky, so a few other enemy types with their own quirks would achieve that and also be more interesting for the player.
-Make a bleepy-bloopy fanfare tune when you beat a level! :)
-One thing you may want to consider is making shooting bullets cost power. If you were to expand the game with more levels or whatever, you might want a scenario where you want to penalise the player for just spraying bullets to teach them to be conservative with them.
I didn't get past Level 2, but I watched your gameplay video and the rockets in Level 3 are kinda funny. Not even remotely fair, but there are plenty of games that pull off the "rage-inducing unfairness" thing pretty well. If you want to go for that angle, then go the whole hog! Add platforms that open under your feet, for example.
I also didn't encounter any bugs (or at least, nothing too noticeable), which is a huge bonus. This is a really good first Ludum Dare, great job.
I *think* I got to the end? Level 2. I appreciate the parallax layer and like how the UI goes transparent when the player is underneath it. Little details like this make a good game a great game.
You seem to be able to skip past the enemies pretty easily however - not sure if intentional. If I try to kill them, then sometimes - because the timing of the jump (without holding) matches the timing of the enemy gun reload rate - I would land my jumps next to incoming bullets multiple times (because I'm an idiot) causing me pain, and ultimately death...
All in all though, a great first entry! :thumbsup:
@danielilett Thanks for the feedback. I understand that the placement of the jump button is kind of misplaced and I see why you would like to change it. My personal goal for the game is to make a game like "I want to be the guy", but not as unfair that you ragequit (Although the rockets are pretty unfair and there are no checkpoints). I will take all your feedback as consideration if I ever is going to expand this game. Thanks for the feedback, anyway!
@gwinnell Hey, gwinnell! Level 3 is actually the last level. I can see why it is confusing, but the goal of each level is to kill every policemen and human you can find. You can play the game all over again or you could watch my gameplay walkthrough here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f34ig1BNB7k You do not have to, of course ;) Thanks for the praise and critic!
I only got to the end of the second level because i never figured out how to progress :( I got passed all the fire lines but then there was nowhere to go as I slowly ran out of energy standing on a safe box.
@oxrock You progress to the next level by killing all the enemies!
Was fun to play very challenging but thats great! It was a bit confusing for me to use x and z first but after a while I got it.
@Lukesta Thanks! Liked your game too!
Unfortunately I cannot run this 64 bit exe on my 32 bit machine, could you add another build?
@gonuts I can try, at least :/
@gonutes I've never done this before, so I dunno if it is going to work. I also had to remove all the sound effects. If you want to hear them you could just scroll up and watch one of the youtube videoes! Anyway, here is 32-bit version: http://falkbruskeland.com/ludumdare/d34th-32bit.rar
i liked the bounciness in the controls, i think you could of incorporated the theme into teh mechanics a bit more interestingly, maybe a charge shot that kills instantly but uses more power. put the player in a position where they have to choose
@cyncical-monkey Thanks for the feedback and advice!
Wow! I'm impressed with this one. Difficulty ramps up quickly but never feels completely unfair. The theme is implemented nicely into the mechanics and doesn't feel intrusive or tacked on. I really like the low-res artwork - you manage to get a lot out of a handful of pixels. Character controls nicely for the most part, but moves a little slower than I'd like. I didn't manage to clear the third level because of those pesky bombs, but I'll probably keep this one on my computer for later!
@zyzzyzzyz Thank you so much for the praise!
Great little game ! It's nice to play and it's not repetitive. I loved the graphics and the sound effects. Nice work !
@yvanor Thank you! It means a lot!
Hey this one was pretty fun. I found that the timing of the shots of the enemies was a bit unfair sometimes though, usually when I jumped the first one I would land on the second one. Reminds me a lot of the old web games I used to play as a teen. Nice!
This game is so hard, and so __fun__ also !!! Liked the graphics and the idea also !!!
Quality graphic style, simple but fun mechanics. Enemies felt a little too good at shooting me but the game didn't feel too unbalanced. Overall enjoyable game and great job for your first LDJAM.
I like challenging games and this was one of them! Good to see other first time people, but you put me to shame, great job!
@thorneto Thank you! Yeah, I know.The timing of the enemies was a little bit unfair, but you can jump higher or shorter by holding or tapping.
@bocodillo Thank you!
@tyler-miller Thanks. Your game was awesome!
Very solid entry for a first timer! The graphics is minimal but quite cute. Has the Oryx Design Lab vibe to it. The music is also minimal but the basic sound effect made the game more alive. The game play is solid, the control is tight and shooting is fun.
However, I couldn't really get used to the Z and X control, and I feel like the game is cheating because if I jump towards a point, the police shot in advance before I get there so I have to take a hit which is annoying.
I also seem to run into a bug? where I cannot proceed to the next level at the end of Level 2, I die and try again, still same issue :(
Very well done though, the game is challenging to play.
@jackyjjc Hey, there! Thanks for the feedback. I know that Z and X controls aren't really so good controls, do you have any suggestions for other controls. And in order to proceed to the next level, you HAVE to kill all the enemies and humans.
Cool game!
One downside to it is that i don't really like the control scheme.
Wow dude, cool game! Killing civilians was really funny. I like how you addressed the theme,
@samuli-salonen Thanks! You aren't the only one who doesn't like the controls :P
@stitchesmagoo Thank you!
Pretty nice game! Finished it but the level are not easy, which is great. Graphic was really nice, sound was good aswell. However in my opinion the power(yellow bar) going down was not very impactfull. I always could just refill to full mid level. Maybe it would have better to limit the uae of the recharge platforms to one use each, as currebtly the running ut of power theme is a small and kinda not impactfull part of the game.
You did a really great job! But icould use some health packs,checkpoints and an finish marker...
I don't know if it's supposed to be difficult or not, but I struggled a lot and found the difficulty a bit annoying. A good rule when making games for jams is to make it trivially easy, and then call that hard mode. Remember that you've had 48 hours to practice the game, while new players only have 5 minutes.
You did a really great job! But icould use some health packs,checkpoints and an finish marker...
@whatislove Thanks! The power bar was supposed to make the player not use so much time on little things, and just move as fast as they could. But the power drain is a little bit slow :/
@whatislove Thanks! The power bar was supposed to make the player not use so much time on little things, and just move as fast as they could. But the power drain is a little bit slow :/
Saw the youtube video that you posted in the comments,really had no idea that you could charge up the power,i thought it was an indication to jump,maybe adding some kind of text should help :)
Pretty nice game. Level design is great and the game let you kill civilians :) Sometimes policemen are difficult to avoid if we want to kill all of them, but anyway, game is really cool, well done !
AI also met the bug in level 2, the same as @jackyjjc.
@tusadi I will add that if I ever is going to expand it! It is not allowed to add any features since the compo is over :/
@goloso-games Thank you! Did you remember to kill all the enemies and civilians? Because that is the only way to progress to the next level!
This game it very good. Although the power bar is not going down that fast, I can finish the first level without charging.
Hahaha, those cheeky rockets! I had fun playing it :D Didn't manage to beat it though. Really like the sounds and level design.
@harrelix @remzo Thanks!
It's too hard! I cannot even pass level 2.
@fangzhangmm ;(
Nice! This game is fun to play. Keep the good work up! :thumbsup:
Good work , funny and pretty :)
Hard but really fun ! Like this kind of graphics.
@daydreamerstudios @rapter @damoy Thank you all!
Simple concept, Simple game, Perfect implementation.
Only thing I would fix is the difficulty, found it a bit hard, but that's just my opinion.
Anyway, good job, can't wait to see what you'll make in your next Ludum Dare!
nice game!!! love the style and mood
@programmingdimension Thank you! I will maybe work with my cousin next time (in the jam), but I don't know yet!
@pixelsplash Thanks!
I liked the game and had fun, but I needed to switch my keyboard to US layout, because playing with X and Z instead of Y felt really weird.
The graphics are quite good and the controls are very smooth. I didn't like the jump arc that much and wished there was some way to manipulate the character's falling speed while in the air, but it worked and made the game more challenging.
This is one of those games that I wish had some background music, because just hearing the jumping and shooting sound all the time gets a bit monotonous.
Overall very solid entry. Great work.
@zelos Thank you!
Great game in this short time. Maybe the robot takes to much time in air. But i enjoy it :D One tip, try to avoid keys like z and y becouse they change in diferrent countreys :)
For being a first time it was great! The sounds and graphics were cute. I felt thoo like the z and x was a bit weird but nothing hard to get used to ^^ keep up the good work mate! ^^
@rakowu @thesand Thank you guys. I will remember to have different keys next time!
Graphics are decent. 3/5.
Same with the sound, 3/5.
It's not very interesting take on the theme but it's servicable. 3/5.
Innovation is 1/5 because it's very generic game.
Fun despite the difficulty and the rockets which I thought gave a cheap death, it's very fun to play. 4/5.
Humor I did laugh when the cops just decide to drown themselves. 3/5.
Over all 3/5 good effort.
@digitaldude555 Thank you! Glad that a bug made you laugh, lol xD
Solid mechanics in there! It's pretty tough but fair.
The sounds are effective and so is the pixel art. Nice and clean.
The only gripe I had with it, is not knowing what to do sometimes. The next level menu took me a few tries to understand. And I'm still not sure how to go to the next level after the first fire-pillar hurdles. I didn't get the level-menu. So sadly, I couldn't finish the game.
I wanted to play more so that's the most important right? Good game and good first try!
@estebe Hey! One of the reasons you may not have been able to progress to the next levels is by killing all the civilians and policemen!
@estebe But thanks for the feedback :) Glad that you wanted to play more!
Cool little sidescrolling shooter. Kind of like mario meets robocop. The shooting combat seemed impossible at first but eventually I found a little trick. I think that's a good sign in games, that they start out difficult, but then as you (the player) learns the ins outs, you get a greater appreciation for it. Anyway job well done!
@michael-feldman Thank you so much :D
Good game, but hard as balls! I enjoyed the style of it!
A better Terminator sequel than any of the new ones :3 .
Congrats.
Good job with the game. The game play was fun but dodging the bullets from the cops was a bit on the harder side with the movement but still worked well. My favorite part of the game was the boss at the end, it was well done and had the feel of a classic retro game. Overall good job.
Good game! Maybe too hard for me but the game in itself was great: - Graphics are super great - The physics are neat - The levels are cool, I love platformers so you won a lot of points ;) Hope to see you on future LD events
Simple, but work fine.
@sir-daniev Haha. Thanks <3
@colozz Thank you!
@pavelsovushkin Thank you!
@miltonh25 Cool that you liked the boss, first time making one. Thanks for the feedback!
Great game! In my opinion it would work even without the energy mechanic. Simple but neat. I enjoyed playing so that means something. Great work and good luck!
@mr-houdini Thanks!
It is a nice and fun game. Graphics, sound and gameplay... everything is coherent and consistent. It is a challenging game I would like to finish when I have some time. But speaking about the theme, running out of power, I have died many times from many things except running out of power :sweat_smile:
@markwolf Haha! Thank you!
Pretty fun little game here. It's sometimes really hard to get a shot in, when the moment you enter their line of site, they shoot and you have to immediately jump to avoid. I think with a little practice it would be easier. I personally would've preferred more intuitive input options (space for jumping and menu selection, A/D for moving and mouse click for firing), but what you have works, it's just a little awkward. Overall, great job.
@josh-h Thanks!
Damn! I would have loved to play your game, but I cannot run the 64 bit Windows exe on my 32 bit machine, could you add another build?
Really enjoy the difficulty level. It's not easy but playable. Visuals are great. Nothing to say else, great job! :thumbsup:
@gonutz Haven't you tried the 32-bit version? Idk, if it is going to work, though! I had to remove the sound!
@surovyi Thanks!
Good solid game. I really liked the jumping.
@tayopi Thank you!
A simple and neat game! I found the difficulty level just fine. I only had some difficulty in the second stage cause I didn't know you had to kill all the cops and people. I liked the boss fight at the end, it probably took some effort to implement it.
@jusw85 Thx! Yes, it took some time to implement the boss. I had never done it before!
It was real fun playing this one, once I got used to the floaty jump. Didn't make it to the boss because I couldn't help being dumb. Oh well... And congratulations of making and finishing your first LD game, the first one is always very special! Btw, just as you recommended, I played a few LD39 games and your was obviously the very first one. Video on Friday at "Phil-Motion Video" :) Be proud!
PS: The QWERTZU build wasn't working for me, neither Z nor Y worked but the QWERTY version was surprisingly well to control anyway :)
The graphics are minimal and fit to the rest, a bit of music would make it more appetizing. Nice how you used the theme. It would have been even better if there were some bosses or some other kind of enemy. It's a pretty game, congratulations!
@philstrahl Thank you! I will fix the QWERTZU version!
@smdeveloper Thanks! But there are a boss, though :/
Just out of curiosity, why do people do the 'z' & 'x' keys for main actions, is it to do with a keyboard type or something?
Some music would really sell this for me. It just seems like the kind of game that needs more sound. (The verry little audio that *is* there is pretty crisp though.)
I also like that you have to hold, instead of just touch to really recharge. I'm less convinced of the need to separate power and health-bars though, they feel too similar: does it really add much to the game to have them separate?
**EDIT**: @coomzy The *z*, *x* combo is because they're right next to each other, easily (on a QUERTY keyboard at least) reachable for the left hand. That won't work on an AZERTY keyboard (and a whole slew of others), so that's why you sometimes see *x*, *c* instead, although that has it's own problems. Really games should just have configurable keys, but that's often too much for the limited time we make LD games in.
**2nd EDIT**: @falk-bruskeland Oh, just a small request, but could you maybe not make a zip-bomb (compressed file without a top level directory) next time?
@remco Thank you! I could just combine the two if I ever is going to continue making this game!
Video is now live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DmR4rQzW7o
@philstrahl Thanks! X was shoot and C was jump BTW. But I've changed it now!
I really liked the game, if it is a little difficult a healing item would help a lot
@olmes-daravina Thank you! Yeah, maybe some healing items would help :/
For a first LD in compo, it's quite impressive. The mechanics work very well and even if there are some improvements to do (it's very hard to kill enemies without loosing life which is quite frustrating), it is a very nice game. Well done!
@solah Thx!
There is no 32 bit Windows version on your itch.io page.
Nice Game!
This is a good mini game!Simple but fun.Fuck that rocket though XD.
@rngsilvercraft xD
@gonutz It is now!
Really fun little game, but it is too hard.
Cute looking game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKdZrHdMrvE
@jupiter-hadley Cool! Thx
