Nice idea :) But I need more challenge.

squigglez 2021-04-26 20:10

very interesting idea! i think this is a strong concept that could be done even better in a post-jam version. i wish i had more control over movement- maybe swinging your legs for momentum? big fan of this, good work :)

michael-feldman 2021-04-27 03:34

This is awesome ! Simple input scheme, interesting mechanics, decent challenge. Only request is that you double check the github link. Looks like an empty repo, and I'm curious to the source, because it looks like you rolled your own engine for this one. Very impressive !

deepinthewoods 2021-04-27 03:52

@michael-feldman it's in the Master branch, I used libgdx/box2d

ccglp 2021-04-27 11:48

I really like the rope physics :D

chris-delta 2021-04-27 14:51

Cool concept, I loved the simplicity of the base mechanics, but it did get samey pretty fast, I think the levels were a bit too easy to just breeze right through like a maniac.

The art and sound in this game have this bizarre deep-fried quality that I'm not sure if I'm supposed to like or not, but I do.

justinmullin 2021-04-27 17:19

Nice aesthetics. The sound and the art mesh really well here! I frequently wished I could climb back up the rope _just a bit_ when I overshot something, but I know that's part of the design. I love how fast paced this is, and having to shoot the gun to swing is pretty unique. Overall I enjoyed this, thanks for sharing your submission!

deepinthewoods 2021-04-27 18:00

@chris-delta it generates more spikes and enemies at higher levels, but you're the second person to say that so it's probably to slow of a buildup, and too much player health making the enemies weak.

@justinmullin you can shoot downwards and tap the spacebar at the top of your arc to reset the rope.

justinmullin 2021-04-27 18:16

@deepinthewoods oh nice, interesting trick, I'll try it out!

pijamar 2021-04-28 01:23

I love the idea, innovative mechanics, great job! I found I'm able to "cheese" some levels / sections by simply holding the space bar, but it doesn't detract too much from the experience, just might be something to look at if you're looking to keep working on it.

Game play is pretty good. Good game.

timbertoes 2021-04-28 05:34

Awesome idea. I really like the simple controls and mechanics. Super fun trying to shoot bats, dodge spikes and make it to the bottom. I had a great time playing this, awesome entry. Bonus points for slick rope physics :) Keep it up!

ubershmekel 2021-04-28 05:38

I got to level 3. I'm not sure I quite figured out the controls. It was an interesting idea to let me play with the rope momentum using a shotgun. I felt like the enemies were too small, and the obstacles too surprising, maybe I was moving too fast and impatiently? Also it felt like it wasn't too rewarding when I passed a level. And I didn't really understand why I died when I died. The concept itself is super creative and cool though. Even if it were without enemies I would have probably had fun gliding down and shooting things. Thank you for the game.

c4scar 2021-04-29 04:06

This was super cool. Descending on the rope and using the gun to move around felt really nice. Would be interesting to have check points (maybe middle platforms) that you can get to before deciding to descend again.

healthire 2021-04-30 10:04

Interesting combination of mechanics. Some of the physics felt a bit inconsistent. Landing on flat ground seemingly launches you in a random direction which seems overly punishing, especially when you need to get close to the ground to get the pickups. That said, rope physics are inherently fun and this was an interesting take on it. Good job!

deepinthewoods 2021-04-30 10:44

@healthire Thanks for the feedback. I should have just disabled collisions for the powerups since landing anywhere on the platform picks them up anyway. The arrows on the platforms show you which way they're going to send you. I'll make these things more clear in my post-LD version.

charliegray 2021-04-30 21:32

This is a really cool mechanic. A little bit of a learning curve but I got the hang of it fast enough.

I also really dig the aesthetic of your game. Really reminds me of some older lower budget PC games. Great job on this!

cavedens 2021-05-04 14:49

While it could use some polish, I really liked the mechanic. Good job.

fueelin 2021-05-09 06:44

Cool game! It was fun bouncing and flying around, and I liked that many types of movement required using the gun to achieve. The music was nice too! Good job!

lisichka 2021-05-13 15:26

cool idea!
