Hi, congrats on finishing! I just wanted to say that you should rethink the control scheme you use in future games, because while WASD is fine, I personally was expecting it to be relative to the direction the robot was facing, not the screen direction.

I loved the addons system, but found it hard to use while fighting. Good job, cool game, even though I didn't find how to close it ^^

Congrats on finishing your first - you had a similar approach to the theme as me, but there's plenty here that I didn't do (which is giving me ideas for a later version of mine). Keep them coming - see you for LD40.

74 Seconds! At first I thought green monsters were peaceful beasts just hanging around bu they were shooting at me! I playet every system down just turning the weapon system off and on :D

Very innovative, having the 5 systems. The dang shield system wiped my power dry... Adds a layer of complexity to the traditional top-down shooter along the lines of resource conservation / management.

Cannot find the exe?

demandooda 2017-07-31 21:09

@eduardogdev Hmmm... I tried it and it worked fine. Just extract the zip, and there should be an exe file with a data folder.

Nice game, congratulations for your first finished game and for the ludum dare entry, it requires a lot of effort! keep it going!

Two things that I think that could change: *Control Scheme - this is how the player communicates with your game, it is very important to help him use what he wants and when he wants, so it is a good option to make it easier for them to access each ability. *The instruction is too large, people usually skip those, so IMO it would be a good thing if you just said:

Controls: x do that, y do this, good luck!

Gameplay: You have to survive while doing z

History: Now you can explain the universe that you created

The good thing about this is that player can get only the information that they want/need before starting

Well done for your first submission. Had fun while playing. 117 seconds survived over here!

lcmw-spud 2017-07-31 22:27

5 all round, hope you come back for the next LD.

Cool first submission.

Few tips: Make the game balanced - right now using just the movement and shield wins you the game, you just have to toggle shield when not close to enemies. Make it scalling - there should be a increse in difficulty as time goes by. Make it easy to play - having to click to toggle on/off a system is clunky, having it set to keys 1 2 3 4 5 or something like that would have made it better.

A good game for a beginner, keep it going and good luck game developing!

Nice game for your first submission. It would be helpful to have keys for the system to enable and disable them easier.

binary-coder 2017-08-01 22:56

Really like the idea with toggling the subsystems. Would be really good if we could toggle them with keys instead of clicking them.

jekstrom 2017-08-01 23:23

Pretty fun. I found the controls fairly intuitive. Good job!

incobalt 2017-08-01 23:49

Good job on submitting! It was fairly understandable to play, though I didn't get at first how to recharge. The instructions are practically impossible to read. In future games, make sure that people playing in fullscreen can exit your game!

acoto87 2017-08-02 01:24

Nice job! The game run well, graphics are fine for the game and it was fun to kill the monters. ;)

Hey !

Cool game overall. The concept is, I think, very damn original. Could be expanded upon a lot, which is why I think you should consider continuing the work on it and try to sell it maybe. Expand on the graphical and audio aspect, as it's where the game is lacking the most (but it's pretty good for a LD game !), balance the systems better (I could basically survive forever with shield + magnet systems on), and finally get some progression in (module upgrades / modifications, more enemies...) and you got yourself a very nice, yet simple game with quite a lot of replayability.

Feel free to check our game out : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/berzerk-hunt

Animations were very good in my opinion graphics can use some enhancement but I really liked the animation when you would shoot. Pretty fun game though great job.

eshudra 2017-08-04 10:13

Good for the first time! Nice idea. It can be a great game with updated graphics and gameplay. Congrats! Hope will see some entries from you in future.

Interesting game! The extra layer of juggling the different systems was an interesting addition, which included a certain tactical element to the game as well.

I would suggest adding hotkeys for the systems (e.g. using the number keys), and making the movement keys be relative to the direction the robot is facing. The shield was an extremely powerful weapon, perhaps it should just have repelled the enemies instead of killing them.

The game was a good fit to the theme, and the music was a nice touch. Without using the shield, my record time was 142 seconds.

By the way, you should consider "hearting" the comments/feedback that you find useful. It encourages other people to also leave good comments, and it is an important part of the new karma algorithm on the ldjam website :-)
