Host seems to be down

indivicivet 2020-10-05 23:24

cute idea, although I don't have a lot of patience, so maybe not it's for me. it would help a lot if the movement was much faster; I spent a lot of time just waiting for stuff to rotate. I like the simple, clean graphics and gameplay clarity.

it's a little bit weird that the star and the triangle have slightly blocky points in the sidebar when they're pointy in the game.

also, should there be audio?

los 2020-10-05 23:42

@alan123 should be ok now!

@indivicivet thanks for your feedback! no, sadly I didn't have enough time to make any sound effect :( next time!

apples-mmmmmmmm 2020-10-05 23:58

Nice clean UI, interesting idea.

zackavelli 2020-10-06 00:21

Nice look and interesting puzzle mechanic. A solid entry for sure. Admittedly it made my brain hurt on some levels

michael-feldman 2020-10-06 00:29

Very cool that these are generated procedurally! I wonder how that is done and also if the games are guaranteed to be beat-able. I would assume so, but haven't wrapped my mind around how. It is very rewarding to beat a level, though. I would recommend ramping up to a larger number of rings. Maybe starting with one or two then building up gradually.

jessifin 2020-10-06 00:30

This is one of the better puzzle games I've seen so far. Did you actually get to level 60? It would be better if it had a backstory in my opinion.

indigo 2020-10-06 00:32

This is pretty difficult! Really makes you think. Too bad there's no audio, it would have been great to have some background music at least.

Please remember that by the compo rules, you have to submit the source code for your entry. Currently, you only host the packed and minified JS.

no-grapes-games 2020-10-06 01:59

Nice puzzle game, and it's really cool that the levels are procedural. Definitely got pretty challenging! Nice job!

pizzasgood 2020-10-06 03:38

@michael-feldman I can't speak for how this particular game was put together, but an easy and general method to create a procedural puzzle that's guaranteed to be solvable is to generate each puzzle in the solved state and then scramble it by using the inverses of the moves a player could make. In other words, you print the image on the jigsaw puzzle *first* and *then* you cut it into a bunch of interlocking pieces, rather than trying to design individual interlocking pieces and hoping your end result will both fit together and form a coherent picture.

bereg 2020-10-06 11:34

The mechanic is interesting. It could be a nice puzzle in some point-and-click adventure. Or a nice timekiller by itself. Also I think it's an achievement to create this levels procedurally. Great job!

los 2020-10-06 12:41

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions!

@indigo I added the source code link :computer:

@michael-feldman Exacly as @pizzasgood suggested, the levels are first generated as "solved" then scrambled, and the level number is taken into consideration as to how much scrambling is done to the level. Hope this is clear enough

pfs 2020-10-06 12:55

The game looks pretty and polished, I could imagine this being a casual mobile game if you a few more elements to the puzzles because it seems to me I am just playing the same level over and over again. Adding sound will lift the game and mood a lot.

Cute game with potential!

tutti-ankka 2020-10-06 13:01

Really cool puzzle game. Graphics style is nice and simple. It would've been nice to have some little sounds for moving the shapes and completing a level. Good job overall!

mog13 2020-10-06 13:04

This is a great example of a simple mechanic executed really well. I enjoyed playing it but maybe some instructions and audio would have added to the experience! :) great job!

madbeagle 2020-10-06 13:12

Nice idea, there's the seed of something potentially big here. Had to play in Chrome, wouldn't work in Safari for me.

jackkm 2020-10-06 13:57

nice puzzle game

cool look,

movement is a bit slow (maybe adding acceleration if button is hold for longer time)

i dont think is necessary but usually this kind of puzzles have reset button in case you made puzzle harder for yourself than it was initially

bauke-regnerus 2020-10-06 14:23

Cool minimal visuals and simple concept. Would be nice if rotation would be a little bit faster.

tricky-fat-cat 2020-10-06 14:27

I adore the style of this game, it's small and very fun to play.

aterlamia 2020-10-06 14:37

Cool game , it got hard very fast and two thumbs up for making it in java script. I did feel that it was hard to place the figures exactly in their place (it was not necessary but bothered me a little bit)

finn-tr 2020-10-06 16:30

Super cool game! I really like the concept of this, the aesthetic is wonderful and I think with some sound and music this will be a fantastic relaxing experience! Great job!

netmute 2020-10-06 16:35

Very polished and fun game  I like that you could pull off a simple and well executed idea  Someday I will as well

sharkwithlasers 2020-10-06 17:54

Very nice puzzle game! Having colors and shapes as two separate controls made it really interesting!

And the fact that it was procedurally generated is impressive as well! Great work!

namnam 2020-10-06 22:31

Haha, i see the point but i'm not patient enough to complete it. But i like the abstract art force by the concept. It all work well together.

citdev-chris 2020-10-06 22:40

really liked this. i always struggle with level design but it seems this one makes the design easier since you can just work backwards. kudos!

julienlussiez 2020-10-06 22:49

Really nice concept, well done ! I like the minimalist visual style.

andygates01 2020-10-06 23:54

Big fan of the clean minimalist art style, and a nice puzzle mechanic. Good job

gilazarini 2020-10-07 11:15

A clean game easy to understand and challenging to play, really impressive! congrats :D

fupi 2020-10-07 18:40

Very classy! Feels like a mobile game, but one of the good ones. The puzzles themselves are difficult and feel really good to complete. It's a very simple game so that's all I can say. One thing though, I don't know if it was just me but I couldn't scroll the page, and the bottom part of the circle was cut off by the browser, and zooming out kind of cut the circle into a square and obstructed it even more, so it was difficult to solve a puzzle in which the outermost loop had a slot in the bottom part. My monitor is 1366x768.

los 2020-10-08 10:09

@fupi thanks for your review! I didn't test the game on resolutions lower than fullhd, so that might happen for sure. What I can say is you can try go fullscreen, maybe that helps ;)

danielblanco3d 2020-10-08 10:31

Beautiful geometric style and really clever concept. Congrats!I just miss some audio...

p-r 2020-10-08 10:33

When you lose track of time, surely must mean it's good. +1 for my favourites

masaru 2020-10-08 10:40

Very good puzzle game, and procedurally generated ? Waow, very impressive !

dxk2294 2020-10-08 10:44

This was a really clever puzzle game! The art's really crisp - and shows you exactly the info you need without overcomplicating anything. I'm personally not great at puzzle games, and ones like this hurt my brain, but I still had a lot of fun  Great job!

garet 2020-10-08 10:54

That's the type of puzzle game I can see myself playing a long on my phone. So simple in his idea and design yet to innovative! That is a great Compo entry, congrats !

tom-a 2020-10-08 10:59

I like this game but wasn't very good at it. I wish there was a baby version with a few loops!

Very clever take on the loop idea and really well executed.

Good work :D

roboshamit 2020-10-08 11:05

This is brilliant! Super satisfying once everything just falls into place. Perhaps a bit too hard for my small brain hehe.

fabula-rasa 2020-10-08 11:51

Loved it at first. Really cool idea and fun to figure out.

Sadly, it offers no difficulty ramp, the same basic solution principal can be applied to every level and that never changes or modifies. Yeah, some level will require more rolling around but that's it. So, after you figure out the principle during the first 2-3 levels, that is it. It never took me than two minutes to finish a level. What I'm saying here is that some ramping difficulty would be nice. Maybe more rings, more shapes, more colors as the time goes on.

Not sure if there is an end or are the levels generated endlessly. Went through twenty and didn't get to the finish line  Is there a finish line?

Don't get me wrong - it's a very nice jam game. I love the concept and it's well-implemented. The game feels finished and polished (just lacks some chill background music to feel complete ). And for a 48 hours of solo work, this is more than amazing. Great work! I had fun - for the first few levels. After that I was just stubbornly waiting for some difficulty change I guess

This game reminds me of mini puzzle games in the first few assassins creed games. I like the visuals and concept of the game. I also like that you made it more interesting by bringing in not only colors but also shapes.

I would suggest to go on a player slowly from the beginning, so first few levels would have less loops and the number of loops gradually increments to increase the difficulty. Also the shapes could be more distinct so the player can see them better and identify their position quicker.

Maybe controlling the loops with WASD/arrow keys would be nice. For example navigate through the loops with up and down and looping around with left and right. The shapes would make it more difficult because you can move them independently, so that might be a difficulty. But it is just a thought that I had when playing it.

Nice compo entry, I enjoyed it.

joeshanahan 2020-10-08 18:37

Found this game very relaxing to play, and I love the aesthetic too!

It reminds me of this concept I once heard of "hill climbing" in relation to puzzles. Players tend to want to try and get closer to the solution, so having the puzzle 90% of the way done feels like they're almost there. However, with some puzzles like a Rubiks cube, you have to get FURTHER from the solution in order to actually solve. Maybe you've got a full side completed, and you need to scramble it to get further. Step down the hill, so to speak.

I've always found those kind of puzzles frustrating, I'd much rather be able to see that I'm making progress. This game doesn't fall into that frustrating category for me, every step I take I feel like I'm getting closer to the solution, and even though some moves undo a completed ring, I know I'm constantly getting closer to the top of that hill.

And then when it finally all slots into place? Man, so satisfying! I think you did a great job with this, I enjoyed my time with it.

erlioniel 2020-10-08 18:59

Like the visual but don't know, from my perspective the puzzle difficulty is quite low. I've found a pretty easy way how to solve it and since then the game itself started to be boring for me. However it is a good game, I think it's just should have more different mechanics to be more interesting in long run.

jharler 2020-10-08 20:03

This is a very clever puzzle mechanic that fits the theme very well. Be careful with using colors as identifiers though, as a significant portion of people are color blind and may not be able to distinguish colors very well. I think in this particular case it's fine, as you get visual feedback on what you're manipulating, but it could pose a challenge.

paulhocker 2020-10-10 04:31

very clever puzzle game. I really liked how you you need to think ahead with it. thanks for making the game.

sophiemae0 2020-10-11 01:44

This was a very clever puzzle game! I am super fond of the pastel color pallet, and it is a clever use of the theme. An absolute pleasure to play, great job :)
