Nice game! I love the power colors and battery models!

aaron-mcleod 2017-07-31 23:06

Nice game, though the camera kept going behind walls and I couldn't see :(

good-enough 2017-08-01 02:11

Hey, this game was really interesting! The camera clipping was annoying, but using the batteries to power the world instead of to power the player was a cool twist. It was especially cool how the world seems to come alive when it's powered. And my brother says the dalek is cool.

thepelranthean 2017-08-01 23:01

Thanks for the feedback. I've tried to address the clipping problem in a Post-Dare release, but it's still not perfect. Hopefully it makes the game less frustrating though.

Nice mechanics! The game looked good, too, especially when the power's turned on. Get some levels that let you have the power on a real long time so we can enjoy that :) I liked that this was more of a puzzle game than an action game, like a lot of the others that are using the power collecting mechanic. It was a nice change of pace!

Good looking game and cool mechanic. Camera is an obvious flaw, and more levels would be great, but very understandable for 48 hours. If you polish the game and add more levels it can become a great game.

I like the idea of using your power to bring the world to life, I think with some more iterations on that idea you could form it into something really awesome! The clipping was a bit annoying, and the game was on the short side, but I think it's got potential. Good job on the look too, i like the simple neon aesthetic when things are powered. Thanks for building this!

wizard-exe 2017-08-02 01:23

This was a super good idea, and your visuals did a wonderful job conveying the game, and giving the right feel. Loved the puzzle and exploration aspect. I really wish you had more levels, because at the end of the second level I started realizing the potential you have with this idea!

mattmirrorfish 2017-08-02 01:48

I liked the color scheme switching, going over the bridge felt tense. Definitely a bit hampered by camera issues, but overall nice work. Would have been helped out by some sound.

knarfux 2017-08-02 20:51

Level design is very clever and fun ! Graphics are simple but effective. Too bad there is no more levels, but I suppose it's a long process to keep this design quality. A bad point for the very frustrating camera.

kunonooni 2017-08-03 01:26

I like the way you interpreted the theme, very original. Sound would have made the experience more intense. Not going to mention the clipping issue as you already know about it. Good job on the game!

eggnog 2017-08-03 02:07

Cool! A more visual connection between power-use and your robot would be cool, like little electric particles, or what-not. It's a pretty cool concept, and with some polish, could have some really cool puzzle potential! :D

sketchycode 2017-08-03 03:20

Liked it, more challenging puzzles/levels would be nice. The camera clipping into the walls got a little annoying. Some audio would be nice, maybe a faint humming for when your robot is moving, and some audio cue that the level has been activated/deactivated.

jake-cope 2017-08-04 00:05

Very cool idea! I can see this becoming a full fledged game and I was craving more. My one complaint was the camera clipping but I see you fixed that post-compo. Nice job!

rigdonware 2017-08-04 05:43

That was really fun! It took me a minute to figure out what I was doing. Very short but a really good idea. I know it's been addressed but the camera was very hard to control as well. Very impressed though!

kornel 2017-08-04 06:49

That I liked: - nice concept with powering up the environment - the models are also quite nice

What would make me like this game even more: - sound - music - a camera that does not hide behind the walls (that make it very difficult to play)

Please do not call your download "Windows.zip" or I will not be able to tell it from "Windows(1).zip".

Unfortunately I cannot play your Windows 64 bit game on my 32 bit machine, could you add another build?

thepelranthean 2017-08-05 03:48

@gonutz, thanks for the recommendations.

I've added a 32-bit build to each of the github releases, so you should be able to play now. Here's a link to the Ludum Dare release if you want it directly: https://github.com/leyarotheconquerer/on-off/releases/download/v1.0/OnOff-Windows-32.zip

Also, I've renamed the zip files so that you can more easily identify them from the many other files that you may be downloading during the judging phase.

Thanks again for your recommendations. Let me know if there's any other way I can help make the game more accessible.

christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2017-08-05 18:08

OK that was a great puzzle. I bet you could even make it in 2D and it would still be pretty awesome (and faster to prototype?)

I have the same problem with the wall clipping, it limits your visibility and is a bit frustrating.

However the mechanic is excellent, and I'd really really like to see a full game out of it, exploiting all the on/off possibilities of the world.

Kudos!

cnoble 2017-08-06 15:55

Hello! I tried to click on the Windows link, but it is giving me a 404 error.

gonutz 2017-08-06 16:18

Hey nice, thanks for adding the Win 32 exe. Unfortunately I now have another problem: I just get a black window and nothing more. It opens fine but then nothing happens.

thepelranthean 2017-08-10 01:49

@cnoble, thanks for the heads up. The link should be fixed now.

@gonutz, I don't have access to a 32 bit Windows installation so I can't duplicate the issue just yet. I suspect I don't have my build settings just right. I'll see if I can't get a VM up and running, but I'm open to any pointers you might have. Also, there's a game log called Urho3D.log that should show up in the same directory as the executable if you want to pastebin that to me. It might help.

Thanks for taking the time to try the game out again.
