I had some trouble with the WebGL so I downloaded it first. However, I tried it again and it turns out your WebGL is just not displaying a load screen or anything so it just looks like a black screen to me for 30 seconds before it plays so I thought it was broken. Tried to trouble shoot it for you but IDK. I turned off all my blockers and use Chrome, which I assume you do too, so I don't know why it's doing that. Anyways, the onto the game.

The graphics are very smooth. I'm great music for a Compo game. Most Compo games are missing that, as it is tricky to make your own tracks in on top of everything else. I got a lot of joy from cutting up the papers. It took me a try or two before I realized the trick was to click like a manic, then the game is easy. I did not care for the standard cut size. It made my strokes short when I tried for long and it made my cuts too easy by just by clicking. I would almost do away with the cut mechanic and just have the documents slice up if you click on them. That is pretty much what I was doing anyways. Good to try new things though.

Anyways, here is a link to my Compo game if you would like to return the feedback: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/squirrel-puncher-4000

I liked the game. The music was really good and I really liked the beginning with the computer. The only thing I would change is that there wasn't enough things falling and I found myself sat waiting for the next item to drop so if there were more items or the items fell at a faster pace it would make the game more fun. Overall, nice game. Good job! :)

The game was a lot of fun, music was great and the story was short but fun. My only gripe with the game would be that it is quite short, so the theme didn't really shine (a few more levels would have been great, with even more stuff to cut)

As @BudgieM2 said, long pauses are a bummer. Maube by increasing the rate of falling items, but reducing a bit the speed at which they fall, you could be onto something more fun !

Alo, while a little backstory is always nice, having to go through (relatively speaking) long "cutscenes" is a pain for me, so try to keep it short, especially for a jam game.

Nice concept though !

Wow! This game has good looking graphics, a great soundtrack and sound effects, simple game mechanics that make a lot of fun and something like a funny story. That's amazing especially for a Compo Game! Awesome Game Keep it up!

A lot of fun, but it ends too quickly, after I realized I can cut every object more than once I could complete a level in seconds. These hard drives are hard to catch though! I had an issue with running WebGL version in Firefox, had to fire up my Chrome.

This needs to be a phone app and I am dubbing it "Shredding Ninja" like fruit ninja but for hackers who shred their proof away. I hope I didn't involuntarily help you delete actual files and therefore have become an accessory! lol . Great compo entry. I would've liked for the item drop rate to be a little faster as there was time were I felt I was waiting for a bit too long but this is done well. :D

What a monstrosity that floppy/cd drive was. So small.

Is the crying mandatory to close the game? I'll wait anxiously for the answer.

Nice entry and thanks for a web version! (No windows here)

multiplexor 2017-12-28 02:19

Hey @umsingelopugmanco , crying is optional but recommended! Let those tears flow! Damn you tiny hardrives!

youbestrong 2017-12-28 02:21

I like the concept but I agree with the comment that there wasn't enough stuff falling to make it challenging. I was able to spam the cutting on a single item quite a bit too since I didn't have to be preoccupied by other things falling. In any case, good work on your compo entry!

I love this game! Great execution in general, the music was fun, the hacking part added some meat, and the upgrades helped the game feel more fun. This is the only game that I've decided to switch to my gaming machine from my laptop (trackpad was a bit tough). Great job!

paulo-brunassi 2017-12-28 04:09

I loved the game, very well made. Great entry!

Really hard with a touch pad!

aurel 2017-12-28 04:37

Ended up winning. It looks to me like the multiple item combo seems to be the best. My strategy was to side slash, throw things against the wall, then slash down to get multiple combos. Fun entry :)

monika 2017-12-28 04:57

Fun, but I agree that it's hard with a touch pad :)

I wish I had more feedback about how well (... poorly) I was doing. I feel like I only missed one or two things the first time before it was telling me to cry. And if you are going to work on it more, I agree with the earlier comment about the stroke length being the same no matter the actual click, but I do feel varying it is the way to go, not removing it.

Good work, and cute story.

epb9000 2017-12-28 07:14

The music's stuck in my head now. I actually found the third stage easiest as I could slash upwards and use the collision physics to slow down new incoming items.

multiplexor 2017-12-28 07:22

Thanks everyone for the feedback!!

I will take all that into account for future entries :D

multiplexor 2017-12-28 07:22

And good luck on the results everyone :D

epb9000 2017-12-28 09:04

Oh, I came back to this one and noticed something on a second play through: It's a little frustrating when you realize that there's pretty much no way to recover and having to wait out the timer. A stage reset button would be nice for those times so the player can more quickly iterate after real big failures. (Like losing a bunch of score to three tiny hard drives. Curse the RNG.)

multiplexor 2017-12-28 13:00

@epb9000 That's a good idea! In the future I might try to make the hard drives/ routers not so punishing or add a reset level as you said :)
