Amazing Game, I love the multiplayer bit

feedlipe 2017-12-04 20:53

Thank you! @game-coder28, I'm glad you liked it :)

dan-collinson 2017-12-04 21:04

Very fun!

feedlipe 2017-12-04 21:15

Thank you @dan-collinson! (:

2017-12-04 22:21

Nice game, has potential for mobile devices!

casper 2017-12-04 22:32

Fit the theme really well! Simple enemy behaviour that becomes scary when the number increases.

ryuzaki-mrl 2017-12-04 23:07

Very nice one! I wish there were more of it, like an infinite arcade-style game.

Also, save the bees!

feedlipe 2017-12-04 23:28

@carneirao Thank you! We're keep it simple with few controls because of that :P

@casper Yeep, I'm glad that it fits so well, thanks for the comment, Casper :)

feedlipe 2017-12-04 23:29

@ryuzaki-mrl, Wow! That is a nice idea, an infinity arcade style. I liked it. I think it fits both multiplayer and single player. I'll pass this suggestion to the others to see what the think. But it is a huge potential idea to be implemented. Thank you :)

dalbinblue 2017-12-04 23:58

Didn't realize this is local multiplayer, I'll get my brother when he's off (either later tonight or on his actual day off to get some proper testing), but I did test a single player game, which by itself was fun. I'll update the review after playing with him, but my impressions so far. First off, just a quick suggestion; you should spell out that shield and dashing cost honey. It wasn't immediately obvious that was the case when I started playing, and I couldn't figure out what the cool down or anything like that until I realized all my honey was gone. This should be a quick change to the instructions so that should be an easy change.

Second, the controls are great; this is an area so many games mess up in Ludum Dare, but you rightfully kept it simple and made a good choice on what to use that was pretty universal for all users. I'm playing on a laptop with a touch pad and the controls worked just fine. Gameplay was also good, though presentation was pretty simple, I see all three folks listed as "Programmer" so that's understandable.

Finally, I don have one concern on gameplay. It's completely loss of honey on death. As far as I could tell it was a one hit kill; so it feels that a lot of the three minutes playing will be randomly losing everything and then getting back to first place by someone else randomly dying rather than skill. It may make more sense to only penalize the player with some lost honey, or have bee hitting cause you to drop honey that others can snatch up. That way skill would play a little more into the final result.

feedlipe 2017-12-05 00:10

@dalbinblue

I was not expecting such complete feedback. Wow, I'm so happy with the constructive criticism you gave me!

Actually, because of the rush that LudumDare is to us, we did not have time to structure the game in a way that was "understandable" for new player without instructions. In addition to the details you mentioned, we want to put the interface in a visible way to the player, since the score is at the top of the screen, which makes it difficult to divert the attention of your character to look at how many points he has. That's why the crown came out (as you play alone you should not realize) but it stays on the player with the most points. Well, overall this still needs a lot of improvements.

I'm happy that you liked the controls. We tried to keep it relatively simple, because we could build for mobile if it was everyone's wish :) Regarding art, you got it right, programmers. But I think with a bit of post-jam effort we can make it better!

We were thinking of penalizing the player with the loss of honey in the dash (would I rather die, lose all points and give all the bees following me to the top player, or would I spend one or two points to survive even if I stayed behind in the dispute?). The player has hit points, 3 at the moment, this returns to the interface problem I mentioned earlier. I'll try to find a nice way to let the UI show the cool down of the shield, the player's score, and the current life.

Once again, thank you very much for your feedback! ♥

dalbinblue 2017-12-05 01:27

@feedlipe Glad I could be of help. I'll get more feedback as soon as I can get a a partner for the multiplayer.

interpol 2017-12-05 01:37

Nice game. Local multiplayer adds some clever elements to bee-evading. But the game really needs some sort of pause or main menu button. Plus it will be good to see not only normal bees, but the hornet himself! Like different type of enemies, you know. Hornet is very slow, but he could one-shot you.

The name of the game looks like reference to Beholder, isn't it?

feedlipe 2017-12-05 01:39

@interpol Yes! It was supposed to have a boss at the end, that would spread the bees, he would swallow them and throw it back at the players. Some kind of co-op to defeat the boss.

Thanks for reminding me of the pause menu, completely forgot it.

New kinds of bee would be awesome. I'll add this for sure.

Thank you, sir.

fskr 2017-12-05 01:54

simple idea but solid execution :) well done!

dr-argus 2017-12-05 05:51

So many bees! I especially enjoyed being able to play a whole bunch of them at once. Fun game. Tight execution. Enjoyable game. Nice work!

tulipekoni 2017-12-05 16:34

Nice entry! I found a bug you might wants to see: I somehow respawned outside of the game area and couldn't get back. Might be a rare one tho, since i tried to recreate it but didn't succeed. work3.png

feedlipe 2017-12-05 23:12

Thanks for spotting it, @tulipekoni! Figure out what it is, thanks to you! You were awesome, got fix it! ♥

technomancy-studios 2017-12-05 23:29

This reminds me of the Bee Movie, expect this was good.

laylow 2017-12-06 04:54

Sadly I can't play the multiplayer, which I feel this is really targeting. Reminded me of Don't Starve though!

marjie 2017-12-07 05:53

Very fun! It took me a couple times through to understand what my goal was. I was very surprised about winning the first time, haha. I still don't know whether dying has any penalty. But it was still a pleasant experience to play around in and discover.

tvance 2017-12-07 12:10

Thanks for the feedback on my game. My one gripe with this is I didn't know how to gather honey at first. Not a major thing though. I liked the music and it was fun dodging charging bees (similar to my game :)

Also, why did you opt out of so many rating categories? I was going to rate audio and mood.

prostone 2017-12-07 12:59

Will have to try it with someone as well, but enjoyed playing single for a while. Would be kinda cool if the stinger actually points as you as they close in (so maybe some rotation, or other efffect), and wasn't really sure at fist how to collect honey and what the bubble does, so that might be better explained ingame. Otherwise, nice little game, cheers!

feedlipe 2017-12-07 16:48

Hey @tvance, thanks for your feedback. Well, the music wasn't done by us. It was a AI that built it. Even if this is our settings that made this song, it isn't our product. The Hive problem. Well, you have to stay close to the hive for .5 seconds to collect it. I made a roadmap with few changes to this game and we are going on those to make the game better :P

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16n_5jK1C37U3AsWhs2tQN02OAOGdeKIItMaa3AARl5o/edit?usp=sharing

feedlipe 2017-12-07 16:50

I can imagine what you are saying, @prostone. Like the bee stops, aim her sting at you, and then dash towards you with a different sprite. I'll write that task for our team to implement, for sure, seems pretty cool.

The honey is collected by stay closing for 0.5 seconds, and the bubble repels bee's. But thank you for your lovely feedback :)

2017-12-08 12:35

\o/ - Waiting for the possibility of playing it! I liked the sprites already! ;)

2017-12-08 12:35

Congratulations, Felipe! Great gameplay and a fine way to consider the greed effect on us! ;)

feedlipe 2017-12-08 17:58

Thanks @melk! I'm glad you liked it! :P

omiya-games 2017-12-09 02:21

The concept is interesting, I really like the use of the number of honey collected determines who the bees aggro to. That said, the controls for collecting honey (e.g. standing next to the hive) is not obvious. Some sort of visual feedback letting you know that your character is collecting honey would have been nice.

Would have been nice to see some juice to make the collection process more gratifying.

feedlipe 2017-12-09 05:36

@omiya-games I loved your feedback, that's exactly what I'm doing right now, maybe in the next couple minutes, the new version with A LOT MORE visual feedback will be available. Thanks, I would love if you could test the game after the changes. I'll let you know as soon as I update the site. ♥

feedlipe 2017-12-09 05:39

Also the lot more feedback is adding a new visual information, goes against the rules about adding things. I'll keep a separated version for the LudumDare and update a new one because I still want to work on this project (:

gruhh 2017-12-09 11:36

Congratulations on the game, it is well integrated with the theme and has an interesting concept that was well developed. Some considerations:

- I liked the fact that the bees have a small anticipation of action, it is an important feedback pro player, to make it even better would be interesting a little animation, maybe even a shake on each bee before attacking would give a sense of urgency. The way it is working, but due to the fact it is a fast paced game it would be interesting. - The movement of the bees could have some random element, I feel that walking around in circles would rarely get them. Or increase the speed of their attacks over time. - One tip for Jams, is to add the controls before the game starts.

Again, congratulations on the game!

---

:flag_br:

feedlipe 2017-12-09 19:46

Many thanks for the feedback, @gruhh! I'm glad that you were satisfied with the concept of the game (:

As I want to keep polishing this game. I'll try to make it as pleasant as possible. I've made a roadmap of updates that I'm currently working. We added the animation of the bee, we removed later. I think the problem is a clear idea of what would be best for this. Do you have any recommendations? I suppose maybe a circular particle effect converging on the bee might be okay.

As the game was developed with multiplayer in mind, we didn't worry about it. For whoever would play would have to deal not only with his bees, but also to dodge from the others. But we want to make the game viable in a single-player arcade mode now, so that's a great suggestion! Thank you very much. I'll think of a way to randomize the movement of the bee in relation to the player! ♥

I did not understand the tip: P

Thank you very much for the feedback!

Não entendi a dica :P

Muito obrigado pelo feedback!

Hello everyone. How's your free time?

I made some changes regarding the visual pro player feedback, and fixed some bugs. This change does not enter the jam version, but since I want to continue working on the game, I would love your feedback!

That was the biggest problem reported by the players, so I made a point of prioritizing them. This will be the only time I'll mark them here, I'm sorry if that bothered them :(

And also, @ryuzaki-mrl, we are working on the Infinity Arcade Single-player mode! ♥

(Do not change the votes based on this new version since it is not part of the Jam version)

Interesting game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJp29JpDY1Y
