LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Revenge of the Samurai by Kalkatos 2017-12-05T02:39:49Z

I like the style of the character art, and the concept behind the mechanic was solid. I found the click to attack a bit finnicky, as I had a hard time figuring out when I was actually going to attack.

you are the coin master by Sean S. LeBlanc 2017-12-04T21:16:15Z

Super good for three hours! Also, and I know others have said this, I love how you used the theme. Great stuff. Controls were a bit fiddly. I was having trouble with jumping while running towards ledges.

A time paradox by lythom 2017-12-04T16:41:03Z

I dig the idea, and could definitely see potential to develop this a bit further. My only major issue was with the movement controls. It looks like your movement is tile based, which, as another commenter said, can cause the player to miss a quick turn. I think being able to freely move, as opposed to moving tile by tile, would improve the game alot.

I assume you are using the tiles to track the path of the player, so I understand sticking to tile based movement for the jam. This is more a comment for if you choose to work on this after the jam. Nice work.

Chaos Space Kitchen by seano 2017-12-05T02:05:00Z

This was really fun. It has a nice frenetic feel to it.

Curse of Greed by Sophie Houlden 2017-12-06T18:57:32Z

I wish I had some constructive criticism, but all I can say is a really like this entry. The feel of the movement is good, and it's a clever interpretation of the theme. Nice job!

The Beforlorne Wander by pvtroswold 2017-12-07T02:24:28Z

First, great job on the music. I was less hot on the sound effects, but the music was very well done. I won't repeat the criticisms already stated in this thread, but I did enjoy it. Is there a tie in to the theme that I am missing?

Complicity Inc. by rhythmlynx 2017-12-04T21:51:11Z

I enjoyed this quite a bit. The WarioWare + Papers Please. Very cool.

Ditchin by irwatts 2017-12-05T02:22:47Z

It's got a great look, and flying the ship feels fine. Unfortunately, there just isn't much to the gameplay. If I hold w and spam space bar, I win.

Mushroom Délicieux by TRASEVOL_DOG 2017-12-06T20:28:39Z

I know you've seen this comment already, but my only gripe would be that there are inedible items on the map that look like mushrooms. Aside from that, I think you really nailed this. Being that the game is visually noisy (a good thing for this concept, I think), it would just help a bit if what was and was not edible was clearer. This was really enjoyable, nice job!

Lights, Camera, Action! by gamesplusjames 2017-12-07T02:06:54Z

I liked the humor and mood of the game. The theme doesn't really tie strongly into the game play, and I don't think I took a hit while playing. I did appreciate the hell out of the Bo Dallas reference tho. :D

Cardhoard by HacksawUnit 2017-12-04T21:21:13Z

I like that you focused on a simple idea, polished the crap out of it. Nice work.

Clutter Bug by Abilean 2017-12-07T01:55:22Z

Good use of the theme, and congrats on your first jam.

The Invasion of Robots by Swifttech 2017-12-07T02:29:03Z

Congrats on building your rendering code in such a short period of time. The game wasn't really doing it for me, but it seems like you were mostly challenging yourself to make the engine. That being the case, very nice work.

Red eats Yellow! by Xynal 2017-12-04T16:50:16Z

The gradual camera zoom is very cool. It was a while before I noticed it happening, and I like how it snuck up on me.

I ran it in Chrome, and did have some performance issues, it was quite framey. I'm not sure if that's just me on this laptop, or if you have some optimizing to do.

Asteroid Crasher by erebus 2017-12-05T03:43:57Z

I enjoyed this. The controls on the ship are intuitive and responsive, and the mechanic works well. Nice job with the music as well.

Sword Collector by Dave Siegel 2017-12-04T19:15:59Z

@tvance thanks for your feedback. Knowing when you're blocking, when you're vulnerable, and when a swipe actually hits, it's really not clear. I agree. Sadly, I had a bug with at least one feedback mechanism, which I was trying to fix up until 1 minute for the deadline. I'll be getting to that for my portfolio soon. Thanks for playing!

Sword Collector by Dave Siegel 2017-12-05T03:35:29Z

@erebus thanks for the feedback. The first thing on my to do list is your first note. Honestly, I slapped the UI together really quickly and didn't do any of it the right way. I'm probably just going to use text mesh pro going forward, for that.

Sword Collector by Dave Siegel 2017-12-06T17:28:44Z

@kalkatos Thanks for the feedback. I think you're right about moving the characters via their rigidbodies. I have a couple of ideas of how I am going to handle that. I do plan on polishing this up a bit, and distributing it for free. Mostly just as a portfolio piece. Thanks for playing!

Sword Collector by Dave Siegel 2017-12-11T16:06:55Z

@sean-s-leblanc Thanks for your feedback. I happen to agree, which is why I'm taking some time this week to work on it a bit. I ran into some collision issues late in the jam, which I ran out of time to fix. Honestly, that's only one of the issues. The feedback needs a lot of work, and obviously there is sound design to be done. I spent most of my weekend wrestling with a couple of technical issues, so a lot of my to do list remains undone. I made the mistake of not working with a couple of my tools to get situated a head of the jam. Lesson learned.

Mo' Gold, Mo' Dragons by tvance 2017-12-04T21:44:34Z

It's a fun concept, and the dragons work well, such that trying to lead them to collide with each other is pretty fun. I did find trying to do a 180 takes a while, so it is hard to maneuver some times. Still, I think you got the idea across. Nice job.

Vault Loot by ghostlygurustudios 2017-12-07T01:59:06Z

I liked the idea, and had fun with it. The black text over the middle of the screen is very difficult to read. Aside from that, the idea works, and it was fun for the little bit I played of it.

The Shepherd by TheTopHatNoob 2017-12-05T02:14:15Z

I dug the music a lot, but wasn't too hot on the other sound design. I'd rework the sound that plays when you hit a wolf. Your sheep work pretty well, and I enjoyed balancing the herding with fending off wolves. There is good tension between those two things.

Rocket Bucket by Byron Bowen 2017-12-07T02:14:58Z

I couldn't really play the desktop version. I tried changing the graphics settings fro the launcher a few times, but I still couldn't get the cart off the ground.
