I cant shake that Atari and Dendy vibes. Good idea for this theme. i liked

It's pretty fun haha. Would have been interesting to come up with some mechanics that would make it a bit less predictable/more difficult to accurately predict. As-is it's sort of obvious what moves you want to be making I feel. But the concept is really cool and I had fun playing:)

Is the cheater stromatolite?

andriybyelikov 2026-10-20 19:57 ♥ 0

@ioana Actually the predictability was the point of this battle system. Your damage is not a random value at the time of attack but a known value from a pool of bound randomly generated values. So against most creatures this is easy puzzle game, except for the creature that cheats, and no, it is not Stromatolite. There is actually a bug in the game, but because the game is unbalanced because all creatures deal the same damage but some have higher starting Life than others, this bug opens up the possibility quite a bit to beat an adversary creature with high Life using an advocate creature that has much less Life, so I am not going to fix this bug. This bug does however make it harder to identify the cheater creature if you do not know beforehand how the bug works.

Seeing the next ten damage values and choosing when to pull one forward is a neat battle idea. Also, putting a creature that cheats into a game about predicting moves is pretty funny. The litle bird sprite is great.

Rated! Would appreciate you checking out our entry too if you have time: [Robot Workshop](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/60/trashfight).

I really liked the Game Boy aesthetic; you did a great job with that. I thought I might be able to fight other creatures later on, but that’s not possible. I didn’t quite understand "X charm" and "X turn away."

I look forward to future updates.

Congratulations!

Fauxcache I guess? Took me a while to realize the opponent doesn't actually deal damage "in order", they deal the same order as your decision. Probably best to change the introduction you have. Game itself is pretty simple, and not that well designed, as the puzzle can be unsolvable. I guess the point is the dev tool you made? Not really familiar with the Game Boy thing, but I appreciate the effort to make such a tool, which is innovative enough and fits the theme well.

Interesting visuals, but the gameplay feels a bit odd.

andriybyelikov 2026-10-23 17:56 ♥ 0

@crotonyl-alcohol Correct, it's Fauxcache, although it doesn't actually deal damage in the same order as your decision, but rather it picks a random index. The damage value removed being the same one as your decision is a bug that I documented [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/60/tom/how-a-critical-bug-accidentally-fixed-my-game-balance).

It seemed to freeze for me after someone reaches zero health each time I tried to play it. I'm really curious to know what the rest of the gameplay was! I like the creatures and art a lot. Great pixels! And nice beeps and boops too

plumitt 2026-10-24 04:46 ♥ 1

Cool aesthetic! It might have been good to have some indication in the game that you can restart after the battle is over. When it freezes, it looks like a bug (at least until I went back and read the description more closely)

rocktavious 2026-10-24 11:55 ♥ 1

Cool graphics but the music grated my ears. I didn't really understand what was happening and then it seems to freeze and the music stop and the enemy's life was at 0.

shlolo 2026-10-24 13:52 ♥ 1

I'm not sure if I fully understood what I was supposed to do. I simply always chose the highest number to attack with, but that didn't always lead to a win. But maybe I missed something. Other than that I really liked the overall aesthetic of the game. Nice entry!

prunus-padis 2026-10-24 15:47 ♥ 1

Game was pretty confusing and i did not fully understand. The gameboy feel is strong though, i could see if you had more time to do actual game play it could have been intresting. The idea seems to be nice and playing around with the hidden information being shown but then you are unsure if its actually the true hidden information.

I don't understand if it's a bug or not, but the game "crashes" when I beat an enemy. I'm stuck here, without any sound nor any interaction available.

andriybyelikov 2026-10-24 16:08 ♥ 1

@curtis-pelissier The music stops to signal the end of the game, as I explain in the game description; in your case, because you have reduced the Life of the adversary Catnamedbro to 0.

darkshadow 2026-10-25 10:03 ♥ 0

The game seems to lock up when you win or lose. I couldn't work out how to use charm or turn away. divination seems a little redundant as an option as you have to use it before an attack. Cool gameboy vibe though.

Even though I read the description and the comments, I still didn't quite figure out how to play... But with the graphics and sounds, you managed to take me back to my childhood and Game Boy games :)

Really nice game! I've always been a big fan of Pokémon games, so this one immediately caught my attention. I love seeing that kind of old-school RPG experience in a game jam, especially when developers only have a few days to put everything together.

There's something really charming about games inspired by classic Pokémon, and it's always fun to see different takes on that formula. I'd honestly love to see this project developed further, because games like this have so much potential. Really happy to see something like this at Ludum Dare. Nice work!

rekk1d 2026-10-26 16:26 ♥ 1

Wow, this is a really unusual game! Good thing I read the description carefully first, it helped me figure out what’s going on. Very original, nice work!

ericns 2026-10-27 02:02 ♥ 1

it's a cool concept, but i feel it lacks some feedback (visuals and sound), on my first try i didn't even notice the health bar, and also i think you could add a ton of qol improvements, like not having to F5 everytime a battle ends, maybe a tutorial in the game itself, but i actually do see a lot of potential and i think you could get a really unique RPG out of this!

digital-bacon 2026-10-27 03:29 ♥ 1

Interesting mechanics, cool retro graphics and sound -- potential here for an interesting Pokemon clone. Great work -- well done!
