I couldn't make the game start unfortunately, even though I tried multiple browsers. I'm on Win10 as well.
Strange.. the game doesn't seem to work on itch
I am also having issues with the itchio version og the game. I just see a black screen
Thanks @schnodelfactory , @elflashor , @sillyman987 , @ninnec
Ya this was a known issue at submission time but because of my dayjob i never had the time to fix it.
But this weekend I finally got it to work in WebGL - If you want to know more see - https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/red-owl-ld-52/$322433
Let me know if you have any other problems. Now I can finally start to play others games too! :tada:
Visual is good. But is there an end in the game? :)
An interesting game! The grid movement and fixed perspective is an interesting approach. I couldn't quite figure out how to actually use the materials I was gathering, but the overall presentation was good! Nice work!
First I was surprised when I read the controls. But once I was in game it all made sense. There was a lot to explore, but the bgm made it a bit tiering. I liked it. Good job on the graphics.
@sergio-nikol - We were not able to get an end built during the jam - thanks for playing! @moosey - You interact with the campfire to bring up the crafting menu - we never get far enough to build tutorials :( @j0ye - Thanks!
Very impressive graphics and audio, the old-school dungeon crawler style gameplay was really interesting to see with this theme.
I just wasn't given a lot of feedback on getting hit, I wanted to use block but was unsure when to use it. Nice art and music though!
Thanks for the kind words @3ggplant - i choose the old-school dungeon crawler style to get some reps in to prepare for https://itch.io/jam/dcjam2023
@fullheartgames - ya animation is not my strong suit and I didn't have time to rig up the models so i just went with something simple. To use block you must buy the shield. If you get the dagger or sword you can parry. Definitely need to invest in tutorial tooling to make setting up that kind of stuff easier.
Thanks for playing all!
I think it was nice to see some basic mechanics, and you have the beginning of a fun game! The gameplay loop didn't seem too satisfying though. the start felt a little slow and unrewarding (just hitting pumpkins in the face). I did like the animations on their faces as i hit them though.
great work!
I felt bad seeing how sad my betrayal made all the trees and pumpkins, which shows how effective the art is in this game. The controls felt very weird at first, but within a matter of minutes they began to feel natural. I don't know if I saw everything (I got the sword and shield and a few of the potions), but it felt like a decent progression after attacking trees before I was ready the first time around. Good work!
Fun game. The game looks great, sounds good, and plays well. Using Q and E to turn takes a little time to get use to but it works well. Nice work.
I was having troubles getting the game to run on ludum dare website, but itch.io worked. The idea is fun but the gameplay is a little restrictive for my taste.
Looks and sounds good, but the movement seems to be a bit off for me - it always looked like I was one tile behind of where I actually was since the camera is quite far back. Well done!
Nice game, the characters are so cute 😉 Am I missing something? if you engage an opponent, you can't flee. So engaging a too powerful opponent and you loose?
Thanks for playing and the feedback @ssh-randy , @atmospherium , @projectaroid , @buni @floke
@patbgames - Ya its undocumented but you can hit the ESC key to back out of battle. I threw this in for testing but wasn't sure if it should be part of the actual control scheme. Thanks for playing!
Love all the characters and designs in this one, audio was nice too! Love the tile movement though the combat was a little challenging to figure out what was going on and it felt a bit like the camera is a bit off center from where you are. Other than that had a good amount of fun with this one and great job getting this in the jam!
Enjoyed this atmosphere. Partially because I like the nostalgic synths in the music. The art style is excellent. Great job on aesthetic. The movement took some getting used to but was fine after I figured it out.
Pretty good game. I like the graphics..... But i need to press(w) every single time to move its little bit difficult for me.....Good Work
Love the graphics and really enjoyed your game. One request would be to have the movement option as WASD or arrows. I'm left handed and use the mouse in my left hand and keyboard with my right. Otherwise loved it!
Really like the tree characters - enjoyed the faces they pulled!
I never understood the people who enjoyed playing The Legend of Grimrock. But then i turned this on, bought every upgrade, and cleared the whole forest of all enemies before pressing the fire for the last time. I think this showed me the charm of those games and i might give them a try now! Thank you for a good game that opened the door to me to a whole new gaming genre! :D
PS mini bug, wehn you lose restart kind of breaks the game and does nothign...
Thanks for all the reviews and plays everyone you have uplifted my spirits - @bloodfin, @stone-pacifier , @kir-pow , @eldogg.
@kikiriki367 - That is one of the most wholesome things someone has ever said to me! Thank you so much and i'm happy i could open you up to a new game genre. Since i know you like to jam on games you might be interested in the fact that there is a whole game jam dedicated to this kind of game genre and i'll be putting in an entry for that. https://itch.io/jam/dcjam2023
Hmmm it sounds like an experience that would pull me out to make something i never did till now... I might join it myself and see :)) If i remember to do so in 2 months that is...
