Really cool idea! Favorite game so far out of the 5 or so I've rated. A couple things were unclear about what i was doing but it was still fun.

huh, that was interesting, simple yet enjoyable :)

Love the idea and artwork, though at points in the story I got lost as to what the symbols meant haha

I had no idea wtf kinda story I was making, but I loved every minute of it. About halfway down I was making up my own story for each of the emoji - felt like Dwarf Fortress Lite (or fisher price dwarf fortress). This is a pretty innovative idea man. The only criticism I have, and I'm not sure how you'd go about it, is making the progression of the game a little more obvious. I wanted some kind of end-state but it took forever to get there, if there was one. Some signs along the road would have gone a long way in giving structure to a fantastic idea.

Love all of these responses! It's definitely tricky managing the storytelling, branching, and progression when you limit yourself to simple emojis. And it's certainly a piece where the reader's perspective and personal understanding trumps authorial intent.

Super glad people have been able to tell the stories their own way and explore (and maybe even find secrets!). Thank you all for playing 💖

Wow, this was really interesting and well made. I just didn't understand those empty squares, was it a bug? Terrific entry!

Great game

Really simple and interesting game :)

Fantastic idea ! I love how simple the presentation is but how much story you managed to show through these emoji !

Really nice concept! However, I get lost very quickly :-) maybe I am too old for emoji

stralor 2018-04-23 22:09

The empty squares were probably from whatever device you were using. I had a couple emoji from the 2017 set, and not all phones/ computers are likely to have updated to that yet (oops)

Really love the simplicity! At first i was wholly confused at what was going on, but after a few clicks i got it and i promptly restarted the game to get a good first impression form the start.

I even replayed a few times to see where certain parts of the story branched...really well done!!!!

Overall the game was humorous and stuck to the theme very well, but i think it could have used a bit more of an introduction in the beginning (thou my game suffers from this as well ;)).

Really interesting idea but I was pretty lost on what I was choosing at times

patrickgh3 2018-04-28 20:30

Great idea! I laughed out loud a few times. The humor fits well with the emojis. It felt about the right length for what it is, didn't overstay its welcome. My only complaint is i couldn't understand certain scenarios, such as the old lady, and warning sign + paper.

i don't know what happened but i do know i liked it, did accidentally eat all them mushrooms tho

jshaffer94247 2018-04-30 03:22

I think I went on vacation to a volcano. It was excellent, but then I had to come back and set the alarm clock and go to work. Or something like that. Very clever!

leonlaci 2018-04-30 13:52

Really interesting concept! Tho after some time I just didn't understand what's going on haha. Maybe I don't know my emoji very well :joy:

dp3rucha 2018-04-30 14:04

Very impressive and surely the most closed game to the theme of all I've tested. Maybe some kind of HUD where the icons where organized in current options, past actions, etc... would make it perfect.

Very good job!

I read the description and thought "nah, that can't work" and then played it and it totally works, haha. I'm really impressed with how well this came together. It's a little hard to read the difference between the backscroll and the options -- text size isn't enough for that, some button shapes or something would help -- but that's a nitpick. Nice work!

randomphantom 2018-05-03 18:18

Oooh. The Emoji game! some of the emojis were a little hard to interpret, but by and large it was pretty humorous.. I guess I went to a fairy land after eating those mushrooms lol. Well done!

A little bit too late to vote—but very nice game!
