Interesting game! It took me a while to figure out how to start it. I was waiting for the game to load, thinking the big blank area was the game still loading, didn't realize I needed to click the >>. It left me wanting more which is a good thing.

Love the mood, waiting for the next episode !

madbarron 2019-04-30 14:06

Good job on the mood. I would play more!

coder-channel 2019-04-30 14:09

Quite an interesting idea. But the game is very short. I think the game has potential.

twobythree 2019-04-30 14:12

Instantly absorved by the atmosphere.

Is a great universe for a long and twisted story congratullations!

didigameboy 2019-04-30 14:14

that was really cool. Great to see some text game with illustrations tho. I was scary in that distopian.. future? xD

jharler 2019-04-30 14:27

Interesting commentary on capitalism. I ran through it a couple of times, though I got the same ending both times. Might come back to it to see what else is there. My only suggestion would be to have the options reappear at the bottom of the new text instead of having to scroll back up to choose a new option. That confused me for a moment.

kristinamay 2019-04-30 14:37

@jharler yes! I was trying to figure out how to get the options to re-appear, but was unable to do so. Thanks for playing and giving feedback, hopefully I can figure out how to do that for future chapters. :) (PS, there is another ending! Just... be grumpier.)

Interesting game, even though I'm not a narrative games person. It reminded me a little bit to black mirror, it was one of your references?

kristinamay 2019-04-30 16:42

@eliphas ah I can see that! I was thinking about a lot of different futuristic sci-fi when I wrote it. Definitely feels a bit like "Fifteen Million Merits," also thought about the RPG game "Paranoia" as I was writing it, too.

The writing is really excellent, and the theme incorporation is perfect. Nice job!

datagreed 2019-05-05 15:58

The game stuck at sending the blood sample :( I realized, though, you can scroll up and select other options - is it supposed to be like that? The art and writing is nice though ;)

I feel like you've made a good start with this game, and I'd love to see it expanded. It's nice to gave the visual prompt on the left-hand side to accompany the text.

As others have said, having options reappear at the bottom of the screen would be beneficial, as I, like others, got a little confused before figuring out that I had to scroll back up. You could maybe store all available options in an array or something, and then print then out after each action has been performed.

Quite short but certainly well executed. Loved the idea of a dystopian society in which you spend blood to get things.

kristinamay 2019-05-19 14:16

@datagreed @joshyoshkenoshi Yeah, I have yet to figure out how to wrangle Squiffy into doing that. If I use it again for next LD I'll definitely figure it out, because it's definitely confusing. In any case, thanks for playing!

acearcher 2019-05-19 15:42

Very short, but a great start! I had to go through and play it multiple times to get as many endings as I could, so I definitely liked it. The dark humor is also something that I really enjoyed. I absolutely would play a full game of this. I agree about reprinting the options at the bottom of the screen, but other than that I can't think of anything to change.

This gives me a really strong "presentable liberty" vibe, where wealthy elites take advantage of the surviving human population. I think the plot you came up with was really smart, in that the new currency was literally "your life", and that it was kind of the ultimate currency, since you need it to survive. Really good execution on the theme, and I love the creepy vibes it gave off.

The story starts out nice, and the different choices are well put together. You are good at making the player immersed just by text alone.

The experience would benefit greatly from more graphics. It would be interesting to see how would you graphically represent the events that unfold. (For example the guards who enter your apartment if you decide to continue sleeping, or the device drawing the blood you donate to the system.)

But the small amount of content is understandable, since you had so little time on your hands.

Good job, and hopefully you'll continue the story! :)

nalozyc-shade 2019-05-19 17:33

This is dark in the best possible way. The choose your own adventure elements also really let you explore the ramifications of the world you created.

sampointoh 2019-05-19 17:42

I've seen lots of vaguely anti-capitalist approaches to the theme but yours showcases some deep thinking and good writing I'm a fan.

mika-la-grand 2019-05-19 20:22

It was nice that there was some art to look at. Most text games are just text, making it hard to get immersed. The game was quite short though, but you already said that you're going to expand it. Some music would also be a nice addition.

cdunham 2019-05-20 09:52

Love the dystopian vibe and the possibilities of where the story could go. Short for now, but it gives the player a taste of what the next chapters would be like and introduces the concept and world well. Good job

kurt-roembke 2019-05-21 16:02

Great atmosphere in the writing. Would love to have sound environments and sfx. Also, reprinting your new options after making a choice would be great, as others have said.
