Nice game!
Ohh, I remember your early blog posts, they were actually the first thing I saw when I checked the site to learn of this jam theme! Damn, you've progressed a lot. Also, what a take on the premise, huh? As a huge fan of darker themes, I enjoyed your vision thoroughly.
I love the concept and the lore, nice job!
I actually loved this one. The gameplay is super simple, but it is presented very well - everything runs smoothly, the graphics are pretty, detailed and consistent, and the mini-games are clear, similar in style but different enough. Fun to play. Well done!
I think it could use some balancing, because many of the tasks never seemed to pick up enough speed to end the game as standalone tasks in the end. (I gave up on waiting for the pot to fill faster than I could drain it after about 9 minutes.)
Note that you should probably play and rate the games of others, that's how the website will recommend your game to others, and how you can end up with the necessary ~20 ratings.
I like this game very much. The graphics are awesome! The eight different parallel tasks make the game unsolvable, which is exactly the motto. Music could be used to increase the excitement if each mini-game made its own sound. It would also help the player to put out fires in the right place. Keep up the good work!
Great interpretation of the theme! I had some trouble figuring out a couple of them, but maybe I just need to brush up on my Greek myth. Nice job!
I think I need 8 mouse pointers for this game:) Nice job with it. I like the illustrations.
Smooth execution on the art and mini-games and an interesting adaptation of mythology and the theme.
Even the most basic sounds would greatly improve the experience. Furthermore, having different sounds for the different scenarios would work really well and would give more depth to monitoring which card needs attention.
The biggest issue gameplay-wise is that there is no punishment for losing "cards". The game can be played forever by just holding down the mouse on the vase card and not caring about the rest.
I think the easiest fix would be to end the game right when the first card is lost. Or have a more chilled mode where you can lose half of your cards or something before it is game over.
This is a cool idea. It is possible to balance the stone in the bottom right game on top, or you can push it past the edge of the bar with the buttons and you can't lose that one anymore.
It's very cool how there are 8 different minigames here, and it's cool to see a game inspired by existing mythology. I do think I would probably be able to manage the ocean task and the filling jug task indefinitely, or at the very least for a long time. However, it is definitely fun to try to keep all or almost all of the tasks going as long as possible.
I do think the contrast between the simple minigames and the actual narrative content here is quite fun. This kind of simple minigame isn't usually something you would see with a very dark narrative, and so it's a combination that I find novel.
Fun mythological mini-games! I liked the different little tasks that I had to do with the mouse. But as @unless-games said, the player doesn't get punished for losing cards. On my first run, I quickly lost most cards, but in the end I was just alternating between the vase and Sisyphus. I stopped after 3 minutes, because it got boring. Maybe you could start with just a few (random?) cards (or even just one card), and then as time goes by you get more and more prisoners to watch over. Or perhaps you gain more points when you have multiple cards open?
I like mythologies and games inspired by them. However I don't have enough knowledge about the mythologies for the snake one and the donkey one so I had no idea what to do with them. It'd be nice to have a bit of hint in the game.
PLZ GIVE ME STARS :v: Good job btw… :smirk:
Nice game! Love the variety & the references. As others have said, the endgame is unbalanced since caring for a single card is trivial, but in general it's a very solid game with an original theme and cool graphics.
Cool idea for a game! I was expecting that failing one of the task would end the game. Caring for one card makes the game a too easy, in my opinion. Also, a nice addition would be to have different text for each task to fail as the first one. Anyway, good job with the game!
Cool set of mini-games! Love the theme and artwork. I do agree with the commenter who suggested making the lose condition harder, since you can just hold down the mouse button on the amphora. Adding some audio would be great too. I'd say the art is the standout here - I especially like Ixion and the feathered wheel! Good work!
There are too many people to tag at once! I'm super flattered by all the feedback, especially on the art, since I don't usually think of myself as an artist! I realized the issue with balancing pretty soon after submission, but of course it was too late by then. I especially like the suggestion @papaver had about adding the games one by one. I might do a post-jam update with proper lore, steeper difficulty curve, actual audio, and a cutoff sooner than losing all 8 games, plus a fix for the issue with the boulder that @benjamin-humes found (thanks for that!).
@maychant - Figuring out the interaction by clicking and dragging and holding on everything and seeing what works is part of the game, so there's no mythological knowledge needed. I did really want to give some descriptions on everyone and their crimes, but just ran out of time. If you're still curious, the ones with the snakes are Otus and Ephialtes, two giant brothers who tried to overthrow Zeus and were bound with snakes instead of rope. The donkey is part of Ocnus's punishment, where he had to weave a straw rope while a donkey quickly ate away at the other end of if (his crime is unclear).
