Looks and sounds great, pretty fun to throw stuff in the pit too (great feedback!) - I played it by myself, so I'm not sure what's it like to compete against others.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD50 → The Pit

getting a 404 when clicking on the dropbox link! (game looks interesting!)
Your dropbox link is not working - it looks really fun, hope its working soon!
@tomatolamp @aerloth Woops, don't know what went wrong with the link, but it should be fixed now! Thanks for the headsup!
Played splitscreen (2 players)! At first, we enjoyed the choir sound-bites when sacrificing stuff. Game was great and we enjoyed competing who will survive the longest. It was already a great jam game, with sharp pixelart graphics, great music and sound feedback, tight controls, nice concept. It already earned the place in our hearts.
Then, we realized there are babies to sacrifice. And it got even better.
Then, we discovered that we can actually fight the villagers back which was great. Turns out, you can also sacrifice them afterwards :smirk: The game got better again.
When the timer runs out, we thought we're done. But you don't lose immediately, the ghost spawns which will haunt you. And soon you will discover that it is also not an invicible being (sacrificing plans didn't work here tho, sadly). You guessed it, this has made it even better.
Then, we realized that we can probably harass other wizards. And it was true.
The ultimate sacrifice was really satysfying. Overall it was really really good and we were more impressed by each interaction :D
Excellent entry, I'm keeping this one on my hard drive for short but sweet local multiplayer sessions with friends. Technically it worked flawlessly with gamepads out of the box (xbox one gamepads). It was very, very fun to discover all the little mechanics and I'm surprised how deep it went! I would love some kind of a comeback system after the death (or ability to possess some other creature on the map to keep playing (CRAWL style))
@aerloth Wow thank you so much for such a lovely comment! I am happy that you enjoyed the game and found so much depth in THE PIT...
The most fun I've had throwing a baby into a hole.
Why don't these dumb peasants realise I'm trying to save them.
By throwing them into a hole.
They could at least help out and throw a banana or two at the devourer of worlds.
My only criticism is that the screaming only busted one of my eardrums.
haha nice game :D
Really cool art for this game
This is excellent, hilarious idea and satisfying game feel. That effect with the choir voice when you sacrifice stuff is 👌
Only minor thing is it seems that once you die you have to Alt-F4 out of the game to restart? Or was I missing something?
A really fun play, I could see this evolving into a full game with more content. Would love to see more couch co-op games in the world!
Really well done, loved the sound and all the little gameplay nuggets you find throughout
Fun game, I like the interactions with the peasants and the associated risk by carrying them and the emergent gameplay they provide.
Really impressive to create all of the assets and music solo as well, and the music & sounds create an enigmatic experience. The art fits the mood, was easy to read and nicely done.
The only criticism I'd say and that might've been because I played single player is that I didn't feel a sense of progress. (Either by "resources" running out, the game becoming more difficult or reaching a certain score. But that might also have just been me not playing long enough.)
But that's a small part of an overall great game!
The visuals are amazing! Big fan of the feeling this game gives. A little tough to try and play solo, though, seems inevitable the villagers try to kill me!
YOU SHOULD HAVE SHOW THIS GAME TO EVERYONE ON THE LUDUM DARE, IT'S SO FUNNY AND GOOD! O.O
Man, the art, the sound, everything is on point! <3
I loved everything about this game :id:
I wish it had a lot of levels, the only thing I will complain is: PUT A WEB BROWSER BUILD NEXT TIME, because people would enjoy a lot more :D
The throwing mechanics felt nice. What I liked the most was the dichotomy of the epic Skyrim-esque music coupled with the insanity of sacrificing random shit to this massive pit.
Fun and funny game, GJ!
Haha, that was indeed very fun! I'll try to test it with someone next time, well done! Those choirs were a great idea.
Absolutely incredible the game was full of all sorts of twists and turns and was incredibly fun and funny. The choirs were an the icing on the cake and really made the experience incredible. What really made my jaw hit the floor was when I accidentally killed a villager with a pig in a panic. Seeing the opportunity, I then sacrificed them to the pit, and then got a resounding chorus and a full bar from it. That entire moment from accidental realization to execution was such a masterclass of game design, bravo.
haha what a funny game, good job for 3 days!
Beautiful pixel art! Nice music and awesome sound effects, too! During the game I thought: What I shame you can't... and then I walked into a house XD Nice and funny! Well done.
Nice graphics and audio, the gameplay is funny and simple, maybe you could add different effects/boosts when we throw different things into the pit to add more variation
super game. After reading a few comments, I realized that I had not yet grasped the whole game. Great what you have created here.
A fun little game, but I don't think I was able to fully experience it in single player. But wow, reading other comments and learning that you can throw things at villagers, and extrapolating that to "if I can kill someone by throwing stuff at them... and I can pick up and throw corpses... Can I kill someone with a previous victim?" A+ sense of humor!
Really, my only issues are the lack of a game over screen (I had to sit there staring at my corpse as the meter ran out repeatedly) and not knowing when I'd draw aggro from villagers. A few times, it felt like they just turned on me for no reason. Then again, I *did* see someone drop dead for seemingly no reason right in front of the pit, and it's possible I might've accidentally done that while trying to throw something in? If so, that's even funnier, the idea of a wizard pelting someone in the back of the head with an apple so hard they die and then being shocked when people are upset with him!
That was pretty fun. I really loved the sound when you throw something in the pit. It felt very satisfying. It was really fun when I threw a baby in the pit, and then 2 villagers chased me (I did that pretty early on...). I am confused though about what happens when you die. It seems like the game just keeps going? Is there an end? Maybe it just behaved weird because I was playing alone? I'll try to find some friends :/
Interesting game. Like the pixel art used. I like that the game had multiple player
Instead of plugging your game every single day on the feed with nothing new (e.g., post-mortem, post-LD updates or plans, etc.), perhaps consider playing and rating other games to boost your game's visibility? You've only given 5.25 ratings but non-stop plug for yours to be played, even after reaching the required 20 ratings. :(
@rateothers I understand what you are saying, but doing a post is the most efficient way to gain visibility, when not having a lot of time to play other games. I'll try to play some games during the weekend.
