Well despite some bugs about the character, sometimes teleporting, doesn't seem that he can attack in every direction, the game is neat and the idea is great! There's actually a big lack of feedbacks, I can't know if I hit something, if I'm getting more corrupted or losing lot of health (of course there are bars, but I don't want to check my screen's corners everytime ^^). Might require some work on that, but it is a good prototype!

odlog-oglog 2019-05-01 12:14

@saering, we are aware of the lack of feedback, we had to stay with knockback as feedback because we didn't have enough time to make sound effects :(, when we made the bars I thought they will be bigger. The character can attack in only 4 directions. We know that it needs more work and we are going to do that,Anyway thanks for the feedback! :)

noah-reinagel 2019-05-01 14:36

I could not figure out what to do

curled-leaf 2019-05-01 14:53

I played it and here are my notes;

First of all i strongly recommend you to change control scheme in menu and game. Secondly in this page it is saying that you can attack in 4 directions but i couldn't manage to attack in 4 directions. Only up and down worked for me. I liked adventurer and ghosts :D And the music! Good luck!

odlog-oglog 2019-05-01 15:06

@noah-reinagel, you need to kill all monsters without dying,to attack, just click one of the 4 directions you want to attack , you will die if your HP bar is empty or if your soul corruption is full, to empty your soul corruption bar go to the wall with the Libra on it, face the wall and touch it and then press 'Z' , the soul corruption bar will empty and your HP will go down by 5. when all the monsters are killed, go to the right upper corner of the room and enter the door, congrats, you finished the game! If you have any more questions just tell me :)

odlog-oglog 2019-05-01 16:55

@curled-leaf, thank for the feedback! about the attacking system, the up attack is kind of hard to see but it is working, when I tried downloading the game from the web and play it, all of the direction work for me pretty fine, although the down attack had a pretty small zone,so try it again and see if that works, if that didn't work you can always turn off the mouse in the settings and aim manually :D

noah-reinagel 2019-05-01 18:36

@odlog-oglog Thanks, I have now finished the game.

Interesting game. Once I understood what to do I had a bit of fun with it. A common mistake or something jammers don’t have time to do is add an explanation for their game. A simple text describing the gameplay or controls would help tie the game together I think. Very fun once you understand though. Really nice entry

I like that it's very Indiana Jones-y. :) Good music too. I'd like to see some visual and audio feedback when you attack enemies.

odlog-oglog 2019-05-04 19:13

@aim, we thought that the knockback when the player hits an enemy and when the player gets attacked was enough, apparently we were wrong... thanks for the feedback :)

aim 2019-05-04 20:23

@odlog-oglog You're very welcome. The more "juice" the better. This is a good talk from GDC about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy0aCDmgnxg

Great job! :grinning:

I liked your use of the theme, however, the soul bar and health bar could've been closer together on the UI and perhaps a little bit larger so that they're easier to see.

Graphics are nice and consistent and the use of a small colour palette is great, however it lacks shading which makes the foreground and background blend into each other. Music was thematic but did get a little repetitive after a while :stuck_out_tongue:

Lack of feedback was notable as it was difficult to tell if the ghosts were taking damage. Controls were also a little strange, but I've also done a dodgy job setting up controls myself this jam  so no big deal.

Ok So I read your disclaimer and the AI is, as you say, an issue since you can just hide behind a wall a kill them all. There's also a few bugs with teleporting and bouncing. I think the game also needs some hit indicator, to actually know if you're hitting the enemies and if they are hitting you back. THe intro you wrote is pretty cool and you can see that vision in your game, of course the lack of times always becomes a thing. I loved how you told some mechanics using drawings on the wall, I personally hate tutorials that tell you exactly what to do. Comming up with ways to teach your game trough the game is really dificult and I think you're on the right path there. Overall I think you did a great job, and you should keep working on it! At least until you feel happy with it. It's never good to leave projects at mid-dev, you should finish it no matter what! . Great job! Keep up!

Haven't played the game yet, @odlog-oglog, but since the topic of "Juice" came up, I couldn't resist: here's a playable game I made that covers the same topic. Hopefully you find that educational as well.

odlog-oglog 2019-05-14 04:23

@webox, thanks for the feedback! We have thought the exact same thing about the game, and we are definitely going to keep developing it :)

odlog-oglog 2019-05-14 04:26

@omiya-games, will check out your game,, because juice in games it something I need to improve for sure ;)

acearcher 2019-05-18 22:05

I had a hard time seeing the UI bars, as others have mentioned, but it's a good concept. I could only attack to my left, though, which made it really difficult to play. The window is also really small, so being able to resize it in a settings menu would have helped. The music was a little loud for my taste, but fit the retro style. If you're able to fix collisions with the AI and add in the extra feedback you've mentioned here, it'll be a great little game!

omiya-games 2019-05-19 00:30

OK, finally got around playing the game. So, first off, great job making the game in 26 hours. That's a really impressive feat, and you all should be proud. I thought the music was pretty nice, too.

Now, I hope you'd excuse my criticism, as I have many. My first problem was trying to figure out how to play the game. Despite having read through the directions, finding the necessary HUD bars was a lot more difficult than I expected. I felt like I died for unknown reasons until I found both the corruption and HP bar. I also thought the AI needed some work. I was able to cheese the game by hiding in the corner and swinging to the left all the time. This forced the enemies to come into the thin corridor in a single file, making the game far too easy. Not to mention the gauge to de-corrupt is right there in the same corner. I also didn't really understand how the exploding eyeballs behaved, and just let them explode on their own most of the time.

Overall, solid effort, but certainly could have used more....time.

odlog-oglog 2019-05-19 11:41

@omiya-games, we actually lost 26 hours, just think about the game as Compo challenge game. Anyway,we know about the bad AI, we spent the whole second day working on it, this bug is caused by the collision system, without it all the enemys just turned into one compressed enemy, so that was our desperate solution to the problem, that sucks though :(

We will keep developing this game and the first thing we will improve will be the AI
