That was certainly interesting. The music is excellent and the dungeon theme is very well established with the game's strong use of lighting. The combat, however, is not up to par. The lack of knockback or visual feedback when the player attacks and the lackluster animation make for rather unenticing action. In practice, I found the core gameplay to consist of dashing around avoiding fights and grabbing everything I could get my gauntleted hands on while trying to land difficult-to-time bomb hits. However, this was plenty of fun, especially with the ability to switch between two visually and practically distinct environments. My score: 5302g/2nd attempt.

Nice entry, if you guys could improve the combat and movement controls could be really good, I think the sword should do an arc like Link from Zelda's games (maybe there's a better way, just my opinion)

nardandas 2017-12-05 05:07

I definitely agree on the comments on the combat and animations. I was running out of time at the end, I always meant to revisit them. Perhaps LD isn't the best time to learn 3D animation...

thy-duck 2017-12-05 05:40

The combat could use a bit of work, aside from that it's a nice concept and you set the mood up pretty well for the type of game you were trying to deliver. Nice one!

kerr 2017-12-05 05:45

Untitled.jpg I love dungeon crawlers! Loved the music; The interactions with the player could use feedback though :)

canaha 2017-12-05 06:28

Cool, running around stealing gold and bombs!

I enjoyed my time in this dungeon.

samuli-salonen 2017-12-05 09:07

I thought the controls were great, felt very natural.

Audio and graphics are amazing considering this was done over a weekend.

Only problem is see in this game is that, i feel like i don't have a reason to explore the dungeon.

britt-henderson 2017-12-05 09:14

The music was hype. Very very good. I felt that the lack of visual indiciations of attacks inhibited my enjoyment of the game. I also feel that the lighting coming from beneath the player is a bit out of place. I appreciate the audio as an indication of interactions. Well done on all things sound. Overall good job :)

dusho 2017-12-05 09:25

Music was a bit loud. Controls are OK, but it could use some work on combat 'feel'. Also you have no idea you're getting hurt, you have to keep checking your HP bar. Nice start.. keep on improving.

fabian-pohl 2017-12-05 10:28

Good Atmosphere and cool Level. Gamplay is enjoyable and I enjoyed the graphics. ( Played on Mute so no comments about sounds) But most importantly your Slimies are the 3D-Brothers of the Slimies in our project. So slimy symphaty point for you, sir!

yngvarr 2017-12-05 10:35

After several renames of Data folder, Linux version is working smoothly in windowed mode (fullscreen doesn't response on mouse events). The game made me feel like a Pacman who can hurt his foes with a sword. However, after several stabs, I decided to not stop running away, looting everything I see and throwing bombs into a crowd of mobs behind me. It have been fun for about five minutes, but then I started to yawn.

P.S.: Music is amazing! Nice work!

megalink 2017-12-05 11:47

Cool game! The music was good and certainly complimented the adventurous nature of the game. Some more feedback as when you strike an enemy would certainly make it better. Picking up money felt quite satisfying, and the enemies were really cool! Good work. :)

wakka2 2017-12-05 12:05

Great Atmosphere, good job!

worai 2017-12-05 14:18

The mood the music sets is nice, besides which it would have been nice to have some more audio cues as to what's going on, goatmen (?) growling, slime thangs sploshing across the floor and such small things. The most important things like sword swings and bombs going off give the game some nice oomph. The music did, however, quite often drown out the other sounds. Ofc you could lower the music volume, but I think it would be more effective to pass it through some equaliser and lower the volume on middle frequencies (abt 500 to 2k Hz). The latter would allow sound effects to cut through the good music.

'Twas some simple yet effective use of procedural generation. :)

michael-clavell 2017-12-05 15:13

Like everyone is saying, the lack of feedback during combat hurts. Interesting dungeon crawler otherwise.

notspaghettigames 2017-12-06 03:07

Music was awesome, the combat system could use some work, but other than that it was a super fun dungeon game!

Check out my game if you would like! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/virus-detected

versatile-box 2017-12-06 03:45

Unlike everyone's opinion, I think LD is the perfect place to learn things! I liked it!

krassenstein 2017-12-06 04:25

The game did have that Diablo feel which I love so much. I really liked that you could zoom with the controller to better navigate your surroundings.

The music was really loud on start and I really would have liked a HP bar for the enemies. Hope you take this game further!

tiberiusuciu 2017-12-06 04:26

Music is awesome!

And nice mesh models you made, they look really good. I'm getting some Path of Exile vibe from playing your game, which is good :)

Excellent work!

steve-johnson 2017-12-06 04:48

I avoided combat as much as possible and just kited the enemies around while opening chests and beelining for an exit. You could have avoided the sword entirely and focused on bombs, which would have solved your animation problem a bit.

For short jams, it can be really effective to add a bit of jiggle or rotation to sprites instead of trying to get full mesh or keyframe animations for everything. Just something to think about. Congrats on finishing!

retrospecter 2017-12-06 07:45

Interesting idea. The lighting was a bit dark. Some pretty good 3d modelling as well as some music.

porcus-pie 2017-12-06 08:02

The music and graphics are really quite nice in the game, and the core gameplay was solid. Running around collecting gold was certainly enjoyable however I would have liked a bit more variety. Maybe more weapons or enemies, but something new. I found it got slightly repetative after a while (however that is often the case due to the tim restricted nature of game jams). It's certainly a decent game, however it needs a bit more polish

kothead 2017-12-06 08:03

Good job! Taking down big chunks of enemies with a bomb is extremeley fun.

nikorasuchan 2017-12-06 08:11

The game needs more polish, the controls are really tight, I like it. It's impressive on the amount of modelling you guys made in such a short time. The game lacks a goal as well as I have no incentive to constantly grab more gold. Good work though.

kraftkar 2017-12-06 09:02

Good music and sound. The amount of modelling and animation work you did is amazing! The mood might have benefited from some quiet moments or a slower buildup. The main attack feels unimpactful. It's hard to tell what the range of the weapon is and if I'm doing damage. More feedback from the game is needed, such like a sweeping trail on the sword or a cirle around the character on the ground. Some form of enemy healthbar would have been nice! Combat felt frustrating, but with some tweaks it might get really good.

The dungeon crawler genre is almost always about upgrading your stuff, so it would have been nice to see some way to spend you gold.

You have a lot of skill. Congrats on a solid entry!

drkr 2017-12-06 09:23

I got 4882 from just running around, opening chests and avoiding enemies. Really nice looking and sounding game, combat could be improved with more variety and feedback.

asellio 2017-12-06 17:34

Very well done

profan 2017-12-07 00:16

I quite liked the smooth movement and the animations, but as others have stated, it is really quite a shame about the main attack being so lackluster in feedback!

It was definitely easy to just sprint across the map, picking up the pieces of gold instead of engaging the enemies. The music was definitely nice, even if quite dramatic for the game!

Better feedback!

Nice work either way! :D

miguel-montero 2017-12-07 15:33

Super fun game. Great dungeons and enemies. Good music. Only problem: Animations... But I really had a lot of fun playing it.

kerneltt 2017-12-07 19:14

nice graphics

kerneltt 2017-12-07 19:14

epic dungeon

jfraser314 2017-12-07 22:53

Nice dungeon, thanks for trying to play my game (you were the first... and it was down). Your art was pretty cool. Only thing is I wish there was something that let me know I had hit the enemy (besides them falling over, which I really liked). Great game for LD.

wakka2 2017-12-08 12:25

That soundtrack! So epic!

2017-12-08 14:36

cool ganna try it out

ardorugus 2017-12-11 17:57

First I stopped at the Main screen and listened to the music. All of it. Then started playing, and the same music was there again. Maybe I'm used to in-game music being different from the Titles, but was anxious for the change. Second track is a better fit for dungeon crawling anyway. But the graphics is cool, and the bombs. However sometimes it's hard to understand if you actually hit or just clicking.

hayzar 2017-12-12 11:28

I kinda enjoyed the music and the gameplay, the atmosphere was on point.

I suggest adding camera shake effects, particles in combat so we can feel the impact.

I loved it, congrats.

blakemcdeezy 2017-12-12 13:35

Great atmosphere, and the music really just did good things. I (like a few others) found the lack of feedback after attacking an object a bit confusing. The enemies were pretty cool!
