Cool idea, but it's more people running into me than me running into people xD And I also think the game would benefit from a bit more light (it's hard to see where you are)
The people running over mechanic could use some more leeway. There movement is very unpredictable. Also I didn't get what drink is what. Overall it's pretty good.
Great mood and great looks! It could do with a bit more feedback on whether you're doing a good job.
The graphics were quite nice, and the audio was fantastic! Good job!
Fun game! The game looks pretty amazing too! It did take me a while to find out what I was doing. Bonus points for the festive theme! ;)
I love the city you made. Fun concept... it took me a few tries to figure out which drink was which though.
It's a cool funny take on the theme! Personnaly I vould allow the player to run into people and act as a complete jerk (in a gta fashion). The movements of the "enemies" are a bit unpredictables, witch leads to unfair gameover. I had a great time playing this, Congrats! ;)
Really pretty game - I loved the art. I did have a bit of trouble figuring exactly what to do and which drinks were alcoholic. Once I did, the game was fun, although I feel like the controls never really did get that much worse when you were drunk (it seems like as you got more drunk friction decreased, but that doesn't really make your guy that much harder to control - would probably work better if you added some random movements or something). Like some other people pointed out, most of the time when I died it was because some other person walked into me.
Beautiful game.
I didn't find the lights too dark. Were fine I think. The concept of cold could have been a bit more clear though.
THe art is great but I found myself dieing seconds from the game starting.
I'm fascinated by this visual style! The combination of normal-mapped lighting and pixel art graphics is really unique. I had fun with the game, too!
The aesthetic is really nice, and the lighting effects are very impressive! It took a while to figure out which drinks were which.
Absolutely AMAZING art style! I loved it so much, and the music too! But I kept bumping into people because they would move unexpectedly or they would be hanging around the start point of an area.
Gameplay aside, I would seriously consider buying a game based on this purely for the art and the mood of it.
Thanks a lot for all that kind feedback guys.
We addressed some glitches and the issue that you sometimes ran into people in the very first screen before you found out where you are.
The art style is intriguing, it's a very nice looking game! I found it a bit confusing though since I had no idea what drink is what. I practically just ran around dodging people and taking everything I could until the combination of items resulted in a game over.
In any case, it's a very nice entry. Very good job!
Love the xmas theme. Good graphics too!
Wow, really really good graphics and mood!
I didn't find the gameplay that engaging though - the controls and layout led to much more "oh crap" moments than "niice, I avoided that enemy on 5 glasses of mulled wine"
Those sublte specular higlights on the bricks are sick man! I consider this entry a masterclass in the lighting aspect. How did you do it, with 3d lighting on 2d sprites? I remeber reading about spritelamp doing something like that. Or did you create a "light hull" model for the world, light that in realtime. And then apply the light calculated on that hull to the sprites?
we're both programmers, but we focussed on the visual aspect most. It's all made up from Voxel-Models, the magic comes from our [Unity Voxel Tools](https://github.com/meniku/UnityVoxelTools) :) It's a shame we didn't have enough time to polish gameplay that much :/ But at least we now have a good tecl demo ;-)
I'd love to live in that little town of irresponsible drinkers, also I race rounded into a lot of people : D
Awesome game, really great art and music! Lighting effects are incredible. Love the use of voxel technology.
You combined two of my favourite things - christmas and drinking - into one game, niiiiiiiiiiiiiice! I really enjoyed the look of the game, as well as having different aspects that needed to be managed. I think rather than being touched causing an 'instakill', it would have been nice for it to increase a bar (like temperature) until you overheat! This would give a bit more leeway. Anyway, fun game, loved the theme and christmas theme too!
Funny we both ended up with the same interpretation of the theme, albeit with very different results!
Lovely game. I really like the pixel-art/3D lighting combo. Very unique style!
That's a really gorgeous look, and you've really captured a christmassy feel! The music is great but it could do with some audio besides the music, in particular maybe some feedback on whether you've drunk an alcoholic drink or a non-alcoholic one.
If you're not going to get out of my way when I'm cold and seeking alcohol, you're going to get race rounded. That's just how that is.
Very nice art and the idea was cool, just wish the running over people mechanic was more forgiving. Good work.=]
I loved the art. Very nice lighting and the way it reflects off of the stones is lovely. I found it a bit confusing which drink was which and if I had to stay warm or not? Overall, I quite liked this game. Well done!
I love your art and light style. I scored 8 drinks I think ;)
Well usually running into people when drinking makes people drink more. Other than that a very fitting theme for this time of year :)
4 stars from me! Very nice graphics and music which gave the game soothing christmas atmosphere. The only negative thing I found was... THEM STUPID KIDS IN MY WAY! Haha. Nice entry indeed :)
Nice game, I love the lighting! Good entry.
Well done on the visuals, consistent quality across the entire scene. Gameplay was a little unclear in the beginning. At the moment, the difficulty scaling by having more alcohol seems negligible and I wish it would escalate to the point of failure on my part. However, it seems like I mostly die when I get impatient and bored and move around carelessly.
Nice game you have here. SUPER WELL DONE!
Come check out my game if you like! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/virus-detected
Cool game, the lighting and art were both on point, and I enjoyed that you could walk off screen to different areas of the town! Music was very fitting too :P Like other people have said though, I did have some trouble telling one drink from the other at first, and the townspeople love to sprint into you or stick to the edges of the screen so you walk straight into them as soon as you swap areas. Apart from that though, well done!
Fantastic art and appropriate music! However, I didn't really have much idea of what Cold or Temp corresponded to, and I wasn't sure what some of the drinks were and what they did. Perhaps some audio cues might help with this. I thought your interpretation of the theme was really good, as the control changes did give you the effect of feeling drunk. I also found the idea of drunkenly sliding across a bar, downing a drink, then stumbling into the next booth pretty funny. As others have said, making the AI slightly more predictable would probably improve the experience.
I really really like this game. The art and music and mood are incredible. This is a perfectly designed and executed Ludum Dare game given the constraints. In fact, it's hard for me to find much to criticize. I feel that maybe the character could be more realistic. I know that you are trying to avoid having the player look like the NPCs, but maybe you could give the player a cool hat and bright ugly christmas sweater. Just something to set it apart. Also, animations would have made this game into something really polished. These are just small things I can take away from a really excellent game.
Thanks a lot for the kind feedback to all the new people commenting :) We agree with all the things you said. We wish we had more time to finish all this (proper animations, more polished gameplay, better feedback and balancing).
Nice mood in the game. I liked the little houses. Everything looks like the typical german "Weihnachtsmarkt":D
I liked this game :-) Its very well done and the shadows and lighting really help add a polish that you don't always see in a jam game. Well done!
