@w96k Try running the game in administrator mode, my laptop won't launch the game without that as well
If the game was more polished and such I could actually see myself playing this some more :D! One bug I found is that when you save when you have coins, then put the coins into a door and then die, you lose your coins!
Dear lord, that's difficult! It's a nice fun concept for a puzzle-platformer, though I think it could use some nice indicators to help make it clear how collecting coins impacts movement. Maybe some kind of meter at the top or side of the screen would help it to feel a bit more impactful. Also, the rope swings seem to be kinda jerky and I'm not entirely sure how they behave but sometimes they drop me into the lava and that makes me sad.
The swinging mechanic feels kind weird, took me some time to get it right and also had some bugs/wrong swinging direction. Other than that I liked it, didn't realize the coins added weight first and probably missed the hint about pressing q (randomly did that after failing a jump several times)
Loved the game ! Love the graphics, the concept, the sounds :) Congratz for the work !
This game was clearly difficult without much place for failure! I enjoyed how you answered the theme, collecting coins does impact our ability to move around. Fortunately, I was able to go back to already used checkpoints or it would have be too difficult to collect the six coins. Art and sounds were rudimentary but effective :)
Really neat game! It reminds me of the Super Meat Boy. The only thing I would improve if I were you is the Grapplehook mechanic. It's a bit unpolished but it has been made in 48h so I'm still amazed !
You did not just make me play it twice to get the good ending! It was difficult, but very smooth to play control wise. Rope was a bit yanky, but didn't stop the fun! Thanks for the game!
Simple, but very nice graphics. I really enjoyed the game. Also more levels is a great feature this game has. Only one thing - add background song ;)
really hard to play sometimes_) but very fun. i like your game. it was funny when I reached for the coin almost the entire level and just died)
difficult but fun! wish the art was a little more cohesive. maybe some music, and a little instruction at the beginning. other than that, i had a lot of fun! good work
Very fun and well-polished game. Loved it!
Wow... Thank you all for your feedback, I really appreciate it. I know the grappling hook is kind of unpolished, music is missing and the game lacks a better tutorial, but as always, time seems to run faster when you approach the final hours ^^ I will probably work on this post jam, so all those complaints should eventually be resolved. Again, thanks for checking out my game :D
well done platforming (though max gravity should be clamped imo), nice use of the theme, and sprites were quite appealing to look at. :)
Cool game, like the developer said; it could use a bit tweaking for some things, a little polish here and there. Overall, not a bad game! Liked the grapple hook mechanic. As wonky as it was, it worked! Level design was great at the start teaching the player how to get around. It grew a bit harder and less organized as the game went on, but that's likely due to time constraints. Good start to a cool game.
Very good platformer! I liked the gameplay, graphics and sounds. Grapplehook wasn't perfect, but it was good enough. I might play again to see the second ending(?). Well done!
Not sure why some people are saying the game lacks polish when they know very well that this is a compo where everything in the game is made by you. The game is awesome, it has great mechanics, fitting graphics and great level design which took me some time to figure out :)
You are doing a great job! I am very impressed!
Just one thing that I might have misunderstood - I had to figure out how to drop coins by myself... might have been just me looking weird at the sign because I thought it was saying "O" instead of "Q" :D
Greedy bastard as I were, I wanted ALL the coins i could carry at all times, no coin left behind! Which was really lucky of me, as i could use my two last coins to get the big one! Loved the way you choose to do the ending :)
Close to the theme, awesome graphics, good job!
I had no issues installing the game - it worked fine for me! Game itself was fun! Loved the art / colour theme. Grappling hook games are innately cool. Yeah, as others have said, the grapple mechanic needed more polish (and I would have liked to have seen more of it), but all in all, a great and fun game. Nicely done!
I really love the graphics! It needs a little bit of polish but overall it's really cool game
The idea is just great. The theme implementation blew my mind. Tried beating 3rd level, but no luck. Damn it is addicting! So far my favorite of the jam! Good job.
Simple good idea ! (I spent some seconds to understand what does what, but when I understood, I found it really cool !) The graphism are ok, audio too but it lakcs music badly.
Cool enjoyable game ! Keep coding :)
I didn't really understand what "q" did, until I re-read this page, but it makes sense now. I also managed to cheat the door that says 6 coins, if you collect the first one, save the game and then die, you can keep collecting until you have 6. I'm not very good at harder games like that where it's fast and you have to be precise, but it ticks all of those boxes for people who do like them. I love the swinging mechanic, for a game jam the level design and mechanics seem well put together. Good job!
Cool game =)
- nice graphics. - grapplehook mechanic is fun to use (even if it is not perfect). - the level design was simple, but good. - I like how the theme was used.
Good job.
Everything was awesome! The best LD game I've played so far! Nice graphics, nice audio and nice concept. Great job!
Wonderful concept! Keep in the great work. You should probably add next to the first coins, that you can press q to drop them. definitely important.
@johnnyo @x-budsterized-x @daniel-jackson @blobo I suppose the placement of the Coin Drop Sign in-game could have been better :D My intention was to kind of "force" a failed jump with too many coins at the first lava pool just to have that aha-Effect once you see the sign, but I guess it was more confusing than helpful. Thanks for the feedback, will improve that in future games ^^
Oh, of course! perhaps find a way to make the coin drop message only appear after the first death.
Hey this was pretty awesome. Yeah the sound was a fraction too loud, and I found the swinging mechanic often flew me off too fast. But I really enjoyed the game regardless!
I thought the contact-point for the grappling-hook was a background-layer window ... I even got the coins in the first section you're supposed to grapple laboriously with 'just' the 'hand' itself. Only when I got in the room with the second 'window' did I understand
Anyway, good job on the grappling-hook mechanic!
I did notice I that, if I die, I lose the coins I had saved up until that point. Is that intentional?
@remco When you die, you should respawn with the amount of coins you had when you saved the game. If it's different, can you tell me which room it happens in? That seems to be an odd bug and wouldn't be intentional ^^'
@syrapt0r Hm, it seems I can only reproduce the effect if I touch the safe-plate again _after_ losing my coins (for instance, by putting them into a barrier). While the 'safe' sfx/visuals aren't happening (in that case), but barriers _do_ get reset properly.
ETA: Is _any_ bug intentional? :yum:
Its a cool little game :D i really enjoy the hook mechanic :P
Nice platformer! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecGDWM6QdpE
