Really enjoyed playing, quite difficult but fun - Guitar Hero Meet Stealth - Loved it!
That was a lot of fun! Good amount of difficulty, and I love the guitar riffs! Amazing job James!!
First off you think, oh stealth rhythm - sounds different and interesting enough...
But then you play it, and realise it's a wonderfully created and designed game that provokes stress, relief and satisfaction as you slam out those licks and sneak your way past those pesky guards.
The level select screen shows that the game has some class, and I'm sure with more time you could add a bigger range of guitar rhythm sections to vary the gameplay some more. Really impressed with how you merged these two game types.
Sorry, might just be me but where can I install the game?
Thanks! (excited to try your game out!)
I wish I could play your game, but there's nothing in the page of the download link.
@Danny88881 @Fil089 Sorry, there was a bit of an issue with the page but it's fixed now and the download is there :)
cool game! would be a lot better if the player had a walking animation. You should check out me and my team's game https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/platscii
This was really fun. The rhythm parts were the highlight for me, but the stealth mechanics added something extra to the rhythm by adding another pressure.
Overall, the game has a super high level of polish. The menus and sound effects are all great.
My only criticism is that there were only 3 rhythm parts! I'm sure it was a time issue, so I understand. I would play a whole game around this mechanic for sure!
Godamn! This game just do everything right! Aside from the developer art, I just wished the hacking minigame was vertical in order to mach the buttons used but other than that, this game is just awesome.
And dificult. At a certain point I just said "Screw it! That's going too far!".
Makes me think there is actually potential for a stealth rhythm game, awesome job!
Hey James, love your Youtube channel. Your game is super innovative, I really enjoyed the combination. Graphics is good, and the music is fitting. As your Mac tester, I'll give a couple pointers that is hopefully constructive: - Bug in level 3 (the one with 4 buttons): When I press the Open button on the top left I automatically slide to the right. - It seems I can press all four music buttons to win the rhythm part. Even when I press when no note is supposed to be pressed? - When I'm not mashing all buttons it's hard to get the right timing. I'm not a Guitar Hero god but I'm not bad either so maybe this is unnecessarily punishing. Maybe you could stretch the window.
That's about it, overall this game is still a hit for me. Especially since I also made a stealth + music game  . Hope you find my feedback helpful.
@GastricSparrow thanks for the feedback! I'll try and take a look at what's causing that bug in level 3, that seems wierd :) And yeah the rhythm sections can be fairly easily mashed through (although you do have to press the correct button at least once while the bar is over the note). I ran out of time to optimise that properly so it was easier to make it more lenient than too punishing :)
Very interesting, would have loved some more variation. My personal brain issues of the ordering of the keys for the music made it feel really backwards to me. bottom to top maps right to left.
That game was metal bro! And that thrash guitar gave me life - Great use of the mechanic!
So rock! And it is so much fun.
I couldn't wait to play this game. I liked your stream James and the game is really fun and creative. I love the ratings that you get at the end of each level!
I would just summarize all of this in "GREAT JOB !". I hope to hear more from guitar-hero James in future streams ;) But really enjoyable level design, hard but not impossible, the way we all like it ! :)
Cool concept man! It is awesome
Well played, a good game. I love the UI design !
This game has a huge amount of polish. And it's a rhythm game where the audio actually syncs up with the action! Huzzah! Loved the concept and the execution.
This was pretty good. At first I wished there was more variety in the riffs, but once things got hard, I'm glad they were consistent. I can see this being fleshed out and being a great game. Nice work!
your game are awesome, i love the concept and music and everything, I hope you keep working on it ^^
Very cool idea. I'm a big fan of the Metal Gear Solid series (MGS 2 and before) and to see the title screen like it was really fun. I need to play with a pad because it is really hard on keyboard however, it was fun to play. Thank you for making the pattern the same for the different actions making it easier to learn. That was a nice touch.
Great game! The idea is the same than our game but the execution is different, quite funny to see how stealth/rhythm games can be that close and still give different experiences.
I think the rhythm part would have been easier to play if it was showed vertically, so the keyboard keys would match the orientation on the screen, I still got it but it may be difficult when the player is not used to rhythm games ^^'
I went to level 18 but didn't finished it. Some of the levels had their exit in front of the character, without having to hack/open anything, was is normal?
Overall, a great and fun game that runs smoothly and that's quite a lot in 3 days!
This was stellar! I really didn't expect these genres to mesh as well as they did. Conceptually it didn't make sense but as soon as I picked it up, I knew this was gold.
found a bug when you kill a guard and open a door on the same collider you get both the open door and guard kill music notes. but this was a great idea, nice job.
Oh, man! You are the one who taught me how to make games in Unity! So, first of all - thank you! :D Nice entry, it shows how creative people can be when it comes to find out new "lockpicking/hacking" system, hah :D Nice solution with people, who could just run through level - there is just rank - if you get caught it decreases (i guess) :D Controls are bit confusing, but I don't know how else it could be on keyboard, so probably it is better on gamepad :D Probably game needs some polishing - animations, screenshake when you pressed key correctly on the bit etc. :D But overall - it is okay. You are welcome to try my game too! :D
I love the concept and the way you implemented it!
There were times where, I have to admit, I forced my way thought rather than staying sneaky (I think the enemies should run a little bit faster to prevent that) but the levels still seemed cleverly designed (with the exceptions of 2 which had their exit...right in front of the spawn :p )
Audio is also pretty nice, it made the usually boring hacking part fun to do. Great job!
(btw, I learned a lot of what I know about Unity using your channel for the past few years, so thank you)
It took me a long time to get the hang of those patterns, but then I do suck at rhythm games - and I definitely appreciated that there were only a limited selection of them! I also really appreciated the way game mechanics were introduced, it is rare to see this amount of thought put into that in a jam game, so it really stands out. The art is simple but stylish. I really liked the audio on the rhythm part, especially the "picking up an electric guitar" noise when you first enter it, but I think some other sound effects for the rest of the game would have been nice. Overall a really great combination of genres and a fun game.
I really liked the sound! And the Guitar Hero Feel!
I found it really hard with a keyboard much easier with a controller.
One of the more surprising combinations!
I typically hate rhythm games, but this is so much fun. I really prefer the post jam graphics of course as they look so much better, but even the jam version is nice for such a fun game.
Awesome work! Probably the best game I've played thus far in this Ludum Dare. Music is great, basic gameplay works very well, menu feels good. Basically the game feels very complete. Good job!
I have some minor nitpicking things though. I use the keyboard (or controller) the whole game. Why do I need to use the mouse to click buttons on the start menu or the death screen? Secondly, it put me off a bit the first time I did a new song, because the speed of the notes indicator thing was different. I think it would have been better if you had it stationary and moved the notes towards you instead, at a constant speed (like in Guitar Hero). For the longer songs some of the notes would simply start outside of the screen. Hope that made sense. Lastly, I found it a bit weird that you spawned right next to the exit on some levels. I understand the idea of letting completionists do all the extra missions and let others skip the most difficult parts, but having the exit right next to the spawn is a bit weird in my opinion.
Either way, great job! :)
Nice game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k82mDaf7ze8
Good job! Cool game!
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.
