That sure becomes challenging after the first couple of levels! Fun though. The only thing I would like is that the roomba be a bit better at finding the dirt in whatever area it is in - not authentic roomba behaviour, perhaps, but a bit less frustrating.

I love the idea. And its a nice riff on those games where you divide the floor and I think I like this better than those. It feels more strategic. Like said previously I think the roomba behavior is the only flaw in a well executed game. Great Job!

This was quite fun. A simple concept, but I liked it. Well done.

azure2s 2017-12-05 15:45

Pretty cool puzzler. I think it would be nice if you can change directions while putting the tape.

josefnpat 2017-12-05 22:46

I had a really good time with this. It was nice to see some fun new mechanics!

blakemcdeezy 2017-12-06 10:28

Finally, a game that is relevant to my life! Haha, I had fun with this. It was a really cool mechanic and fit the theme perfectly. I agree with what @randomhuman said, it would be great if the rumba had a bit more 'purposeful randomness'

simon-rahnasto 2017-12-06 13:08

This was such a cute game! Really well done. I love how its kind of 2 games in 1. First it is an interesting take on the jezzball / Qix formula (which I am a big fan of, our first commercial game was in this genre).

The second part is making paths for the rumba, I don't agree with other people that the behavior of the rumba is bad, I think it adds to the game-play. I actually find it quite funny to get mad at the rumba when it turns JUST before the last piece of dirt :D

Visually the game is very well made and has nice and coherent assets. Overall cute-level is 10/10. Audio complements the visuals and pushes the cute-meter to 11/10.

One does wonder though if we should all pitch in and get the poor girl a normal vacuum cleaner, because this rumba buisiness is not really working out :D

anthony-dunlap 2017-12-06 16:12

Cool game, the cats got kind of annoying to control towards the end, but that just adds to the difficulty. Fun to play, Good job!

navot 2017-12-06 19:40

What a cool idea! Looks really nice and has a nice level of difficulty. One thing that was a bit glitchy was accidentally picking up cats from across the tape, you would just get stuck and had to put it down where you probably didn't want it. I actually lost on the last level because of this the first time. Also, it was really fun to see how much I improved the second time I played the last level, getting way more efficient and better strategies of keeping the cats clear of the rumba.

All in all, I had lots of fun playing this game! Great work guys!

frozencow 2017-12-06 20:18

Haha, this made me laugh. I love that you combined robotvacuums with cats. Too many cats indeed becomes worse :P I'm glad my vacuum navigates a bit more efficiently. Isn't it cute? vacuum - Copy.jpg Almost as cute as the cats in this game.

Good idea, graphics and sound!

fluidvolt 2017-12-08 01:58

Great graphics and the sound is perfect. Like, I can't imagine better music for vacuuming with cats :) . I really liked the gameplay mechanic here -- I'm a big fan of Qix and there's a bit of that in the set-up phase, and those cats make it pretty challenging to lay down the tape well. Feels great when you just squeak by! Lots of fun here. Great work, all of you!

blubberquark 2017-12-08 17:16

This was surprisingly fun, especially the last level! The cats could be a bit more animated, and the pixels are scaled oncoherently, but the core gameplay works well.

stormharrier 2017-12-09 09:17

I really enjoyed this :) The audio's great, the art is cute, and the idea was really interesting! The only niggle I had was sometimes I wasn't sure which bits of tape would get picked up when I'd made a bit of a mess of putting it down, so I just put another layer of tape around it to be safe.

jfraser314 2017-12-11 23:37

Found this game from a cat game thread I started, pointed out by your sister project. Really fun! I hit the wrong button on the last level and had to start it over (thank god you didn't make me start back at the beginning of the game).

Lots of fun, please let me use WASD next time and not the arrow keys! GIF Spring Cleaning.gif

I love the way the vacuum cleaner moves, it's so stupid and inefficient and I love it.

This was good fun, I found that since the cats moved predictably you could move them around and bunch them up to move as a single cat cluster, which was much easier to restrict with tape.

Well done!

I loved the sound. The music fit well. Each the variation in cat sounds when they hit the walls made the feline throngs sing a joyous chorus. That purring melted my heart. Beautifully simple and cute. Their eyes are so huge and adorable.

local-minimum 2017-12-17 21:54

I made it through the entire game. Though it really took some time on that last level. It was fun and challenging. I kind of didn't move the cats too much. Until the last level. Some things I thought of while playing:

* It was a bit weird that you could kind of move cats between zones but not very predictably. I suppose it wasn't really meant to work? * If you put a lot of tape on the floor it is a bit annoying finding out under which piece there's still dirty floor. But maybe that's my fault for putting it all around and everywhere. * It someways felt too easy/kind that I could pause the cleaning robot. It might be more fun if you could only pick it up to make it temporarily safe?

Oh man, great idea. Kitties and vacuum cleaner, best ingredients for a good laugh. Combined with the cute graphics this really resonates well with me :)

atmospherium 2017-12-18 00:28

Man, that Roomba was a pain... The basic game mechanics were familiar but adding in that bit of randomness (as well as being able to pick up the cats) really changed the dynamic a lot and made me have to think differently. The graphics and audio really fit the quirky tone of the game (although the cats got a bit annoying when there were a bunch of them going at the same time). I felt that the game was challenging, but never unfair. I just had to keep working slowly to make progress.

frozenfractal 2017-12-18 12:19

I love love love the sound effects and especially the music on this one! The music reminds me of Stardew Valley for some reason.

The graphics are cute too, but the room could be a bit more decorated (rugs, furniture, doors, windows). The critters could use animated walk cycles. And pixel sizes should be more consistent.

On the first level, it's a simple matter of:

1. Turn on Roomba. 2. Pick up cat. 3. Wait. Then wait some more.

Of course, that stops working soon... And because the Roomba is so stupid, it's as much about herding the roomba as about herding cats :) My main gripe with the gameplay is that it's pretty random, especially in the later levels. But I can hardly blame you for that, because it fits in very well with the theme (and indeed, our own game has a similar thing).

joror 2017-12-19 00:57

Cool basic mechanics! At first simple, then cat synchronization and corralling. :P Well done!

Sometimes the roomba would get stuck spinning in place if I paused it and restarted it in a tight corridor, but that might just be intended.

yishalee 2017-12-19 02:26

Very cutie and interesting game! Nice job! The gameplay and graphic and music is really great. Event the meowth of the cats makes a rythem for the BGM. Some problems: the movement sometimes is floating that makes it hard to lacate the girl just above the tape. I think the pick-up action for the cat helps to execuate players' strategy but in most time after dropping a cat it just wonder around back fast, which makes the picking up idea non-sense. I didn't try to move cats to a point far away but if my strategy is to split the room into 6 parts then this dropping mechanic doesn't work.

ponywolf 2017-12-19 18:06

Very cool take on Qix. Loved it... (Love2d'ed too)

Very nice little game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2J0D0dmydc

mrtroy 2017-12-21 03:57

Had a blast playing this one. It was so adorable. I'm glad I could pickup the cats, if I couldn't do that, I think I'd still be on level 1. :D

Hi there! Thank you a lot for this interesting post. Anyway, keeping cleanliness is necessary for everyone who can't stand a mess at home. Therefore, now I can mention this site https://unwinnable.com/2021/04/19/5-biggest-reasons-and-advantages-in-using-a-cleaning-robot/ where you will find the main reasons of buying a robot cleaner. Hope you will try to use it for yourself!
