That was a very interesting story. I'm glad that I played it to the end. It is a bit long for an LD game, and rather text-heavy, but it's definitely worth it.

The game is very long, but that isn't that bad, though. The art and story are very good, but the character is very fixed to the tiles. You can't walk diagonally for example. That's really the only downside to this game, other than that I would buy it if you sold it.
God story men and hard work until i left
please stop making games controlled with "z" button. There are a different keyboard layouts which have "z" and "y" switched. Its annoying. Anyway : game is quite cool, too bad i did not finished it :( maybe i will finish it later :)
Hey @stadoblech, RPGMaker defaults to using Z and X (UK keyboard layout) for interaction in order to try and simulate NES-style controls.
If it's a problem for you, in Other <SPACE> also works instead of Z. Thanks for the feedback--hope you get a chance to finish the game! ^^
Nice story development. Good job!
Nice game. The story was interesting too.
A lot of writing in that, good job getting it together in time! I liked the story, and the aftermath part in particular.
Seems like Z, Space and Enter all work for interaction, you should unify that among the Ludum Dare and itch.io pages.
Interesting story, although the main music theme was perhaps a bit too cheery considering the setting. Would've loved something more concrete as to what Makoto's fate really was, but seeing how my choices affected the villagers was also very nice. I even got a bit emotional there. At one point I thought that maybe the game would have the ending the player least expects: if their choices are hopeful Makoto's fate is something dark and if the player is a prick to everyone it turns out the Rite is something worth pursuing. I guess that's just my love for twist endings talking!
Had a hard time finding the First Tree, maybe due to the definition of the forest in the west being somewhat unclear. Other than that it was smooth sailing and over quite fast. Aesthetic was good and the mood was (apart from the main theme) fitting.
A touching game with characters that I felt for.
**SPOILERS**
Only problems were a few graphical issues. The maze was rather confusing because I could not initially see the boundaries. Also, there were technically no trees without flowers around ;)
I like how we got to find out about the personal struggles of the characters, for example Tamiko whom I initially wrote off. I was reminded that we all are deserving of love even if not everyone can be helped, i.e those who struggle most to love themselves. Sometimes we must resign control and accept whatever reality we are faced with.
On a lighter note I liked how you swapped east and west, that was a fun little world expanding device. (8/8 would eat apples again) Oh and the farmer dialog was hilarious.
**End Spoilers**
Overall a great game, very much worth a playthrough.

Curious as I am, I can see why you left the ending like that; it would really overshadow the message if it where otherwise. After all, if it really where a portal, it would still be the same to all those people he left behind...
Well, I got so lost in the storyline that I turned into macaroni.
OMG I'm sorry about that macaroni comment, I thought I was in another entry page hahaha! Gonna play this now :p
I enjoyed this game even though it was a little long for me. I'm not the kind to real long dialogs, but I played to the end. Cool game.
