Fantastic. In every way. This is a superb game that hit's the nail on the head in every way. Perfect take on both the theme and the 'behind the scenes' of Mario. A fantastic entry into the jam and an all round perfect execution. Excellent work.

airfrog 2015-08-25 01:51

Ha, exactly what I wanted to see out of this theme. Very entertaining.

ybalrid 2015-08-25 01:51

Well, I 5star you. This is great! And I like the fact taht it's a narative game!

move127 2015-08-25 01:55

This was a very enjoyable experience.

oldpeculier 2015-08-25 01:55

Ridiculously, ridiculously clever. Funny. Fun. Awesome job. And hopefully Nintendo will get the joke and won't bring a lot suit against you.

saphyre1306 2015-08-25 02:05

Awesome ! Brilliant ! I could talk about it all night, but I'll just say : fits the theme perfectly ! Congratulations, guys !

niebule 2015-08-25 02:07

Loved it!

pkenney 2015-08-25 02:08

Damn, well done fellas, you nailed it. I really enjoyed the way the whole thing played out, and there were a lot of nice small touches along the way.

walaber 2015-08-25 03:02

really creative, fun storytelling through simple platforming :)

bkgh 2015-08-25 04:41

This game is absolutely amazing!

orukinawa 2015-08-25 08:18

Amazing twist on a staple story!

jakel168 2015-08-25 08:37

I love how you zoom in on Goomba ( with cloak ), I can't stop laughing at that. LOLOLOL

Anyhow, great work, I really enjoy it.

techblogogy 2015-08-25 12:35

After years of waiting, I can finally play as goomba

dragonxvi 2015-08-25 17:52

One man's struggle with depression, drugs and psychosis, presented through the medium of Super Mario Bros.

The jump was a bit speedy for comfort though :p

headmade 2015-08-25 19:15

It's always nice to see a fellow Libgdx dev :)

I really like the story and humor. Never thought about where marios come from.

onilink_ 2015-08-25 20:07

Ahah the end... x)

archbang 2015-08-25 22:14

Absolutely excellent. Taking such a classical reversal and then sticking to it so devoutly has paid off handsomely. So many delicious nods and references. Also loved the music! Good job!

bulletsarepeopletoo 2015-08-26 00:43

"This is Ludum Dare so we won't make you start over." Thank you. Well done.

walsh9 2015-08-26 06:39

Great title.

randomhuman 2015-08-26 08:27

Great story, and I love the little nods to the jam :)

glerikud 2015-08-26 10:22

I really liked the ending part, when he got to the castle.

bloomingbuds 2015-08-26 11:04

Great narrative. Chapters 1 and 3 where really good. Nice job!

loggiant 2015-08-26 14:58

That was fantastic. Thanks for not making me restart the million times I fell off the edge.
My initial though when I saw mario was "Oh I need to jump on his head!"
Then I remembered I'm the goomba.

dancingmad 2015-08-26 16:31

Ahah, excellent.
We had about the same idear in our game but the result is different.

I like your idear about reverse levels and reversed musics too.

orion_black 2015-08-27 02:14

nice hehe XD

sparrow 2015-08-27 10:57

Well done, amazing story. Music meshed well with the mood of the story.

kerotan24 2015-08-27 14:54

Really funny.

voider 2015-08-28 01:09

Excelent idea and implementation. Great game!!

rnlf 2015-08-29 08:32

Oh, such a cool idea! With everything running in reverse, even the world counter!

I'm really impressed!

thingostudios 2015-08-29 20:19

I did not expect that. World F-B is utterly horrifying in the best way possible.

The level counter going backwards is great too. Although I have to wonder, what is Luigi doing there?

dickpoelen 2015-08-30 19:48

Wel... that got weird :) (love all the little details)

freaknarf 2015-08-31 10:39

Hahaha that was a fun game :)
A bit easy, you can feel mario weak and has a stupid attack :)
That was real fun, and visuals really feel like NES stuff...
I loved the storytelling and weird ending ! Great humor.

onlyslightly 2015-09-01 04:10

Loved how well you put the narrative together and separated them by chapter. The audio was amazing and it was fascinating hearing bits and pieces of Mario corrupted by something more sinister. Loved the story and it got actually pretty creepy. Great game!

emmelineprufrock 2015-09-01 04:10

Really think you did great work on the audio and mood especially.

eldan_knight 2015-09-02 17:41

Really fun! I felt very sad for Goomba at the beginning but... what a dark secret at the end of the game! Our entry, The Curse of Koomba, has a veiled homage to Goomba! The main character is a monstrous mushroom. And his name is not a coincidence xD

bombjack 2015-09-02 19:32

very original concept

danialias 2015-09-08 08:25

Love how the story escalated :D. Superb experience, great storytelling (a bit slow at the beginning, though) and neat execution. One of the best of the jam, without a doubt. Good job!

nassi 2015-09-08 16:34

The jump felt pretty hyper like someone already mentioned. Other than that it was a really nice experience all around.

pusty 2015-09-09 21:40

Kinda shocked about the ending! 5/5

zatyka 2015-09-10 04:41

That was an excellent experience. One of my favorite entries for sure.

oadt 2015-09-10 11:17

I love this story (especially the end), the different musics and the "Its Ludum Dare, we wont let you start from the beginning again" message. Great entry, with a lot of clever ideas!

namrog84 2015-09-11 03:40

I joined the ranks of the other monsters! excellent!

daydreamcorgigames 2015-09-11 05:46

This is a dark one...

evergreen-games-ludum-dare 2015-09-11 06:08

Really awesome. The scene at the end with the zoomed in goomba lord changed my life. All around great!

synchingfeeling 2015-09-11 06:19

Loved a bit of retro, that raised some pretty dark questions. Genuinely amazing job guys.

crucknuk 2015-09-11 11:06

i was imerged in the ambiance, i know the truth now! i can never be the same again! :D
well done fellow ludum dare friend...........

krunoslav 2015-09-11 12:01

Wooowwww!!!! Amazing, incredible experience!

eddynardo 2015-09-11 14:49

noooooooo, mariooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
nice entry :)

mantlair 2015-09-11 19:38

Well done! Just great!

thristhart 2015-09-11 19:58

This is super polished in a really impressive way. This could have been done lazily and still gotten the point across but you put the effort into it and it shows. Well done!

aevek 2015-09-12 21:51

The first idea I had and dismissed... Turns out it had the potential to be one of the best games of the jam. Fantastic work.

personalurban 2015-09-12 22:25

Brilliant, utterly briliiant! Looks absolutely authentic, smooth to play, great idea, well executed. Hats off!

ddrkirbyisq 2015-09-13 00:08

Yesssss, yes yes yes yes yes.

Also, I appreciated the subtly reversed arrangements of the music, spot on!

zncatlaw 2015-09-13 04:13

I'm so glad I played this! Such an awesome and creepy vibe. I especially liked how, almost every step along the way it could have ended and still been a complete work. Like, if it had ended at the end of Chapter 1, I would have been satisfied with the experience. If it had ended after killing Mario once, I would have been happy. Even with just level F-F and a different ending I would have been happy. You all took it to the next level, turned it up to 11, as they say.

Did you ever play Super Plumber Bros? It was ZNCatLaw's entry in a previous dare, and I think you might enjoy it as it is also a radical deconstruction of Super Mario Bros. Basically, I consider our teams to be blood brothers now. Link:

wooltech 2015-09-13 09:55

Brilliant. Plays well, and has a great, twisted little storyline.

(I didn't give a score for graphics as most of it seemed to be original SMB artwork.)

keyboardcat 2015-09-13 11:22

Great story and great idea.

Good work !

romaing 2015-09-13 13:38

Really good game and good idea ! I knew there was something strange with this "1-up" system but the truth is here...

thatwhichis 2015-09-13 22:48

excellent!

lolshouse 2015-09-14 10:51

A gripping rendition of the tyranny and social stigma endured globally by the marginalised Goombas. I pray for all the Goombas of this world to emancipate themselves from the chains of oppression.

Would reccommend.

dollarone 2015-09-15 00:45

Excellent throughout. Really enjoyed that. Cool ending! ps. got stuck in the html version but java works well.

jupiter_hadley 2015-10-20 14:24

Really neat story! I included it in my Ludum Dare 33 Compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/wEgI5I5KLKY

andyman404 2015-10-20 18:10

LOL! Awesome game - really well done. I loved how you finished making a complete story about the "behind the scenes" world of the Goomba.
