LD23 — Tiny World

Disregard All Humans by Fireblend 2012-04-23T16:43:00

It's like Rampage lite. With Tyranitar. I love it, dude!

Best part for me is the graphics, the weak point for the game might the lack of variety - but the game is short enough that it doesn't get boring.

The Small World of Professor Strange by Will Edwards 2012-04-23T22:56:00

Needs more programmer IDEs, haha. Brilliant idea, and a great addition! Ever text adventure needs it!

Tiny Droplet by Digitalduck 2012-04-27T04:00:00

Other people are saying this is your first LD so - yay! I'm also in the "first LD" club!

Loved this game, dude! The animation was great, loved the way health was handled and found the damage animation to be quite cool.

A soundtrack would be been awesome!

Good job! Keep doing what you're doing, it's working!

Le Petit by Pixelulsar 2012-04-23T21:05:00

Okay, the graphics and the sound and the cuteness all work really well together so major props there. BUT:

Really really punishing from the get go - BUT there are a lot of people who like that kind of thing - I'm just not one of them.

Overall though, I think you did a great job, even if I'm not a fan of the punishing platformer genre.

Flea Circus by robbiehunt 2012-04-23T10:32:00

Thanks for the kind words, all!

Interesting fact: the dimensions of the screen are the same as the Gameboy Advance (but zoomed out x2) because that's the platform Pokemon Ruby was released on- which inspired part of this game.

Oreganik:
I think more screen real estate in general would help this game. And for the final release, it'll have it.

I plan on fleshing out the game and taking the design further. I'll use the voting to know what strengths to focus on.

ONLY US by Datamosh 2012-04-28T02:12:00

Excellent graphics, wonderful sound, mostly wonderful mechanics! Great atmosphere to the game!

Only problems really are, how frustrating and difficult attacking the bugs is, and the load time between areas.

But really, great job guys!

Flight of the Ladybug by robcozzens 2012-04-24T03:58:00

Would seriously make a good kids game for an android tablet! Obviously the game's been done, but this is a fun implementation, and well executed!!

Good graphics, I didn't hear any sound but perhaps they were faint? I keep my volume down past 50%.

Good job!

Pow! Pow! Pow! by Cake&Code 2012-04-23T14:12:00

Definitely gorgeous game. But the cuteness sort of masks how difficult this.

But I think that's okay. Hard games are good as long as their not torture for the user. I liked it.

Dusty's Adventure by CuberToy 2012-04-23T14:25:00

So, I was playing with my girlfriend looking over my shoulder and we both screamed when the spider's leg pokes out of the button (oh, uh, spoiler alert?) Great job!

Wonderful looking game, great sound, really liked it!

The Deserted by Flai 2012-05-01T01:48:00

Man this was fun - good graphical decisions made here... really could have benefited from sound - but it was cool. I found myself coming up with all sorts of theories in my head to answer the following questions: "Why do all the Zombies look like me? Why did I appear in the middle of the island? Why does the gun never run out of ammo? This light source isn't gonna run out, right? Is there a way off this island? Where are all the zombies coming from?"

It's cool that you could make me care enough to formulate theories as I played - even though I knew my theories would never be confirmed!

Tinysasters by Volute 2012-04-23T22:11:00

Searched for "mouse only" and found this. REALLY glad I did. I want to play this regularly!

Slap a tutorial on this and upload to Kongregate or something!!!

Lord Deadrock's Adventures by abstroke 2012-04-24T03:49:00

Nice little game - what really strikes me is the pixel art. Really great, dude! Definitely needs music and sounds!

Flesh it out! I'd play this, and I bet lots of other would, outside of the context of the compo.

Flea Circus by Edd Morgan 2012-04-23T12:19:00

Dude, just about everything in this game works consistently and as expected. I know, that sounds lame but you yourself said this was more of a technical achievement. I feel like my game bugs out if you so much as look at it funny. So good job there.

I finished the whole thing so nothing immediately turned me off about this game...

It really needed more though! More levels, more story, more mechanics.

Immunity by Waffenwars 2012-04-27T03:00:00

Another commenter already pointed this out: but this really is like biological reimagining of Tron - I dig it!

As others have said - it seems to skew a little on the hard side, or may just have instructions that are slightly unclear on a few things.

But you really do have something here! The graphics as they are are great, as is the sound - if you could tweak that gameplay a little you'd have a real title! No joke - imagine this game with touch-controls on iOS or Android?

Bank.

Hell - consult your friend that knows biology - if this game was semi-accurate you'd have biology nerds all over the world downloading the game JUST to show their other biology nerd friends.

Good job on the theme - and also, thanks for making a Unity game that isn't a million pixels by a trillion pixels.

Enter The Mechanism by Lotsa 2012-04-23T14:29:00

I liked it. Glad to see Stencyl got some use in the compo, I've been thinking of using it.

I love games where you can see the whole level, I'd play a bigger longer expanded version of this game.

boing SMASH by dokidoki 2012-04-24T03:30:00

I like it! There's a lot of room to grow this out, as others have pointed out but as it is it's good too :)

Would have liked music for sure!

Gale Axile by free_napalm 2012-04-23T15:29:00

Note: If anyone get's an odd security warning, I downloaded the game and ran it and it is fine!

You know what? I like this. The atmosphere, music sound and graphics, is good.

I think the tutorial could have gone in a little more depth and perhaps the manual could have been fleshed out more.

I've commented on other games saying that 'hard is okay' and 'sometimes figuring out for yourself is good' but I dunno... I feel like I wanted a little more hand-holding in the beginning.

But great overall!

Survivor by character 2012-04-23T15:47:00

Love it! It's like you got your Gameboy in my PC.

And I think isolation is a great interpretation of 'Tiny World'.

This was also my first LD - good feeling knowing you finished your first one, eh?

Circus Flea by Ted Brown 2012-04-23T12:07:00

Haha, wow with 1000+ entries you really can never tell what's going to come out! Another game that takes the flea circus idea and mashes it with Tony Hawk - I love it!

Really excellent presentation, dude. The whole thing really is fantastically executed but the graphics especially contributed to the whole vibe.

Good job!

Face The Truth by Evgiz 2012-04-26T01:39:00

This was good! Honestly, I didn't think much of it at first but then suddenly I was 15 minutes in... I don't know how that happened!

Clearly you've got something with this game! Good work!! Also, I laughed at the dialog so good job there too!

Super Tiny Adventure by getRandomName() 2012-04-27T02:21:00

Nice. Wish it was finished (or perhaps I simply suck at the game ... not sure what to do after the guy resurrects because it says quest not available..)

The trading parts in Link's Awakening is one of my favourite things in video games ever - really loved seeing a whole game based on that concept!

Tiny Worlds by Lidfrid 2012-04-27T03:06:00

I like the game - I'm just bad at it, haha. Really great job and it's especially cool having seen your progress in the chatroom.

Good job, dude!

Kumiho by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2012-04-27T03:05:00

Very wonderful art! Would love to see a tutorial on how to accomplish this game - or similar - in Unity.

Hero of Rain by the31 2012-04-23T15:13:00

Really great visuals, and idea and sound and ... yeah dude, great job!

Tiny Galaxy by Robert Swan 2012-04-28T00:21:00

It was fun except for the permadeath and the sound! Good idea to finally add it though.

CAPSULE [web] by True Valhalla 2012-04-23T22:28:00

Graphics and audio = fantastic but...

I dunno dude. I see what you were going for, and I like the aesthetics.

I just feel like it needs something... more? But still, good job!

Atom Planet by NMcCoy 2012-04-28T02:36:00

Overall this was a good game, thought I didn't accomplish much :/

A few small hints would be awesome... although I don't think Alchemy had any hints so... whatevs.

Good job, dude!

Flatlands by johannhat 2012-04-27T03:56:00

Really liked how snappy this game was! The animations were smooth, and all the controls were responsive. Gameplaywise, thoughb, this game would benefit from a tutorial! Didn't quite know what I was doing at first, but still wanted to play - that's a WONDERFUL sign!

This same game with some prettier graphics and a more thoughtful interface would be something I'd play regularly! No joke!

Good job man!

ANT SURF HERO: THE SURFENING by JigxorAndy 2012-04-23T17:26:00

this isn't my usual sort of game... but I played it a while anyway and that says a bit about the game.

The graphics fit and it's a unique concept. Good job, dude.

[Darkness Creeping] by AD-Edge 2012-04-28T21:38:00

Never played a game made in Blender before - nice job!

I enjoyed the idea and the atmosphere of the game - but it was a tad bit too difficult. There's a lot here for just 48 hours of work though, I think it's a project worth expanding on!

Tiny Quest by Kvisle 2012-04-27T04:11:00

Good presentation - LOVE the gameboy look man, seriously great job there. Sound was good too!

The only bad thing I can say is that I wish the jumping were smoother. But really, it's not unplayable as is! Good job!

Flea Game by samueldr 2012-04-23T12:26:00

Dude. After playing a couple rounds I couldn't quite figure out what was so familiar and then it hit me : Mister Mosquito. I only ever played the demo of that game but I played the hell out of it.

Absolutely get the same vibe from this game, just you know, 2D. And it works well. And just to throw this out there: This would be a great mobile game if you could figure how to do it on a touchscreen.

I. love. this concept. Well executed, and extra points for random unexpected nostalgia.

Little Knight's Tiny World by jim3wg 2012-05-01T02:11:00

Whoa dude. That was great! Graphics, and sound were good and the gameplay worked as expected. Unfortunately I'm really bad at these types of trajectory games, but it was still a great concept.

Hey, it's great that you got to spend time with your family too. I made sure to make some time to spend with mine that weekend as well!

And if you forked a previous game to make it... WHO CARES! The source was available before hand, and you used it to submit early. I say: Well done!

Moon Base by morganquirk 2012-04-23T20:35:00

That! Was really neat! Great mechanic and art style - truly a great job, dude!

If anything I'd say the gravity pull should work a little faster, but I'm just impatient or just bad at the game :P

Honestly amongst the best I've played with regards a good use of the theme AND good gameplay AND good graphics!

Drop of Life by MrTwister 2012-04-24T03:39:00

I did some undergraduate research in Cellular Automata... this is amazing!

I really truly enjoyed this and played for quite sometime, because it was fun! Needs sounds, and a couple of bug fixes. This is the kind of game that really needs to be shared with more people!

Lots of nerds out there would get a big kick out of this. I know I did.

Cloud Realm by Hempuli 2012-04-23T17:45:00

I love the epic feel of this hole game. Truly greatly done.

I've never liked gliding mechanics in games, even in Super Mario World, so that part naturally turned me off a bit. But the rest of it is so wonderful - great job dude!

One small concern is that it only kinda fits the theme. Maybe the story explains how it fits the theme better though. I skipped the intro.

Tiny World Cardgame by SusanTheCat 2012-04-23T21:44:00

Awesome! I like that this is a real card game - this didnt need to be coded at all! I'm hosting a game jam for physical games and i hope we get some as good as this!

Sound and gameplay are solid. Tutorial was perfect. Graphics were mostly great...

I feel like I needed a visual link between Builders and costing Chrystal to play, for example.

But that is such a small thing, really. You designed a fun card game and virtually implemented it in 48 hours - and you did a great job!

This is a favourite of mine, so far.

Short Life in a Box by tequibo 2012-04-23T13:46:00

For what I played, it was nice. Good sound, good animation, good atmosphere. Exploring secrets in a box is a good interpretation of the theme.

Yeah, the controls were difficult, but I somehow attributed that to what life was like in the box.

Not bad, but definitely needed to be taken farther though.

Tiny Adventures In SPACE by Jacic 2012-04-28T21:46:00

Why did it take so long for me to rate this game? I swear I played it like 5 times, you linked it so much in IRC :P

Good ending, and the gameplay works. Just needs more challenge and perhaps more variety of gameplay.

What's here is a solid foundation, build up some more!

The Tiny World of Fiorella by strega 2012-05-01T02:36:00

Fun Fun Fun game!! Loved everything about it! I hope for more games like this!

Astro Break by hulahulahest 2012-04-23T17:32:00

Good game, man!

If anything it could benefit from music, but over all it's got great sprite work, the sounds are awesome, and the gameplay is very fun. good job!

Genesis by TyrusPeace 2012-05-01T02:16:00

Cool dude! Enjoyable game, didn't quite get a few things at first, but it was engaging enough for me to keep experimenting.

Untitled, So Far by angrygeometry 2012-04-23T20:59:00

I think I like it. It's very interesting in a trippy sort of way.

If you polished this up in the way of graphics, I'd play through quite a bit more. But as it is, for a 48 hour game, this is good.

Destroy the Alien Planet by Tokken18 2012-04-27T02:51:00

Okay, look, Unity just has a way of making games look good.

But this -actually- looks good!! Effort went into planning the layout of the tutorial, and deciding on that camera.

Slap a cooler looking main character (or not, whatever) and add in some mouse targetting and some more variety of gameplay - you've got a solid platformer that anyone would be glad to play over and over.

No joke, the visuals and experience alone will get people to play this game. Keep on keepin' on, you're did a good job!

Inside My Radio by TurboDindon 2012-05-01T01:04:00

Dude this game is super super awesome! wonderful job!

But I suck so bad at this game!! haha. I'd love to play the slow dance version though :P

Bugs by REIN1 2012-04-24T04:04:00

If anyone is not trying this game because of the size of that zip - try the web version, it downloads in a snap!

You're up front about the lack of functionality so I'll speak to what's in the game.

The bugs 'feel' like bugs, in fact, I'm kind of glad your game is short because I was starting to feel creeped out!

If you do expand on this - don't lose that part of it because it's really valuable, I think, to really feel like you're playing with bugs!

Curse Of Grimwood by sorceress 2012-04-23T16:29:00

Great graphics and atmosphere! Definitely takes getting used to but after that it's alright!

Couldn't ever get mouse movement to work though, I feel like that would have been a good experience!

Lilac.27 by oddgoo 2012-04-23T18:16:00

I love this! Very simple and very effectively executed. Love the title screen! Good art direction. Positive female lead. Good job!

PS
My first thought was "I want to learn to make this." Really think this would make a solid unity tutorial. But maybe that's because I'm jealous a

sailboatboatboat by prettymuchbryce 2012-05-01T01:28:00

Dude, I really enjoyed myself playing this game! Really unique idea, I think.

Gameplay was fun, graphics and sound worked together to create a nice retro vibe.

Well done!

Minikin by tummyache 2012-05-01T01:58:00

Broke myself away from the game to give you a review. Gotta be quick so i can get back to it:

Great graphics, wish I could move and swing my sword.

"Your time is at hand, slime!!" Seriously escaped my mouth.

Good job, dude! Keep on doing what you're doing!

One thing though, It seems as though I'm only going to upgrade my sword through this game - if that's wrong, great. But if not, consider adding some other items to spice up the gameplay a little.

Back to playing! And thanks!

Minikin by tummyache 2012-05-01T02:04:00

Pssh. Just got the double jump. Shows me for mouthing off. Obviously you would have added more than just sword fighting. :P

shiprage by AirRider3 2012-04-23T12:50:00

Slick. Good Feel. I'd call it simple, but not in a derogatory way - Less is more sometimes. As it is, it's super fun, but I definitely want to play the version that has all the elements you mentioned you'd add.

It was pretty apparent that there was an energy or ammo system but without a HUD element to point it out, I felt like I was messing up somehow.

Again: well executed and feels real good. Definitely worth expanding on outside of the compo!

Backyard Pirates by bompo 2012-05-01T01:17:00

Man... I loved this! Would love more! The game play that's here is wonderful! A little more gameplay variety, and some sound... I'd play this for a while!

Perhaps multiplayer?? Yeah, that would be a dream game.

Dwindling Worlds by NiallM 2012-04-23T13:14:00

I dig this. It's a great experience with wonderful visuals and great use of voice over.

My only concern is the theme, I don't get the Tiny World vibe. But maybe I need to play through more and pay closer attention to the voices?

Naos by Sean Hogan (anodyne/even the ocean) 2012-04-27T04:18:00

I've had a long day, family is getting ready for bed, I've got the lights out. This game was getting to me. No joke - something about it was unsettling. Almost like watching David Lynch's Rabbits.

AWESOME! I'd love to see more things like this, and expanded upon. Video games inspired by David Lynch, haha.

Good job, again, really impressive experience made in 48 hours!

The Pioneer by Moth 2012-04-25T22:37:00

I really like the game play ... but those graphics! They're amazing! Seriously great work!

Tiny Civilization by Suese 2012-04-23T18:39:00

Good game! Like others, I don't quite know what I'm doing, but I still enjoy myself! Definitely at home amongst classic games! Amazing amount of depth for a 48 hour game!

And it's a world as big as my browser window - seems pretty tiny to me!

Shipwrecked by Madball 2012-04-23T13:31:00

Rodent's of unusual size? I don't think they exist.

There's something about this game I like and I'm sorry I can't put my finger on it. I spent a lot longer on this game than I thought I would, honestly. I really think that being isolated on an island is as close to Tiny World as a human can get while still being on this planet - and that same thought crossed my mind while I was brainstorming my own game. Glad someone went with that idea!

It's got charm and it's difficult, but ultimately the lack of clues and cues meant I had to move on.

Is there a menu I'm not seeing that shows how and where to build things? Perhaps a list of what can be built and what sort of materials are needed would help.

But then again, as a shipwrecked sim... maybe that fits. I don't know how many trees I'd need to cut down to build shelter but I guess I'd know if I had enough?

Also 'Fog of Peace' I like.

Slime Mold by howieV (binarygirl) 2012-04-23T14:34:00

You know, actually, the gameplay's not that bad. As a mood/experience type of game this is kinda cool. The graphics and the sound and the germs... it's like an OCD sim.

Rockland by Jeroenimoo0 2012-04-24T03:25:00

Not a bad game - only thing I would change, really is maybe speeding up the intro.

Good job!

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Lorries In SPAAAAACE! by AtkinsSJ 2014-08-27T00:32:00

Woohoo! Finally got unity working and .... I'm diggin' this game! I finished the game! yay! nice job all around!

Off-World Creature Rancher by robbiehunt 2014-08-25T10:33:00

SuperPokeunicorn - ah. I'll look at that!

Very glad to hear everyone likes the breeding! As far as I can tell it's the only entry with breeding as the main mechanic!

Off-World Creature Rancher by robbiehunt 2014-09-07T13:26:00

woohoo! Thanks for the comments everyone!

Obviously I am still working on my graphics abilities. I'm not as quick as I'd like with Adobe Illustrator, so I think I tended towards the coding during the compo.

I'm hoping to build on this concept, this was just a little prototype to hopefully see what people liked/wanted out of something like this!

There are a few of you with games I haven't not gotten to but I promise I will in the coming days!

Delightful Harmony by pinkmonkeyhead 2014-08-25T04:46:00

I like the atmosphere. I like the aesthetics ... not sure I fully understood what I was doing. Slap a tutorial, does out the levels and get a voice actress ... I'd probably buy this!

BUT ... 10 hours? Holy carp! That's incredible. This is really impressive for 10 cod darn hours! Major major props :)

A Tale of Two Megacities by GAFBlizzard 2014-08-27T00:50:00

I had this game queued up to play but I wasn't happy about it. I think I was just grumpy last night. Anyway I got around to playing it today and it's a charming little game! I really liked it!

I liked the guitar. It doesn't necessarily 'match' the game ... but the longer I played the more it grew on me. Nice work!

Wifimon by Morusque 2014-09-08T13:22:00

Very innovative! I absolutely love this idea I hope you develop this further!

Connected To Hell by mutuware 2014-08-25T03:03:00

You know the unexpected thing about this game? The music. The way it layers as you progress was a pretty neat touch.

Also that poster style is pretty awesome.

Hearts Nexus by Serena 2014-08-25T02:58:00

Great interpretation of the theme :) But easily my favorite part was the little phrases "He's a spicy gogurt" really had me giggling for some reason, haha.

I"m on a netbook and a tiny tiny part of the screen wasn't visible. But after a match the text didn't seem to go away? But I could still hit the 'match' button behind it. I assume I was just missing the dismiss button because of the bottom part of the screen ... but it didn't hinder the game play at all because I could still hit the match button.

elemens by Steve | tacospice 2014-08-25T11:10:00

Really impressed with the graphics and audio. Seriously, this is worthy of expanding on - at least into a short little game.

Darkness by kevinAlbs 2014-08-25T03:09:00

This is definitely hard. I can immediately see that this is the kind of game I really liked to play a few years ago, really requires attention and precision and quick movements.

It creates a good tension.

Really would have benefited from sound. But it has a really good aesthetic.

Space Truckers by thristhart 2014-08-25T11:25:00

Wow. You know what? I liked it. Do you plan on developing this further? Simple little diversion, but it had a bit of charm.

I would like for the speech bubbles to have a way to dismiss faster. I could see this being a fun little mobile game. I could check in while waiting in line at the store, make a few trades/bully some planets and then leave the app when it's my turn in line.

Time Warps Inc. by guscost 2014-08-25T11:43:00

This is a neat idea and wonderful great graphics! However, I'm not entirely sure I get how to send those projectiles back in time? Got it to happen a few times but it wasn't consistent.

Gorgeous and a good idea for a mechanic regardless. Did I miss something in the dialog?

Time Warps Inc. by guscost 2014-08-27T00:42:00

gucost: nice tip on the hexels! I will most definitely be checking this out!!

Cat planet by lorniebear 2014-09-07T19:38:00

You know? I liked this. It has a certain charm that really gets me. Please keep making games, keep progressing!

The graphics were easily my favorite part. Walking was quite challenging! I agree with others than perhaps getting to level 20 was a tall order - however my highscore was 15 so it's possible to get better if you stick with it.

Once again. Absolutely a wonderful game. You dad's right - you're SO gonna surpass him someday :P

Hop Hop Planet by SnoutUp 2014-08-25T23:20:00

Good entry!

Keeping it simple left a lot of room for polish ... congrats!

Friendly Baubles by micahcowan 2014-08-25T03:21:00

Yet another great interpretation of the theme. I think I gravitate towards these interpersonal interpretations because I had an idea like it early on and really really wished I pursued it for the compo! (But ultimately I'm really happy with my creation) Really nice!

It works! Sort of! The un-game game. by ohhoe 2014-08-25T03:37:00

There's a lot of definitions of what a 'game' is. But I'm pretty sure this satisfies most of them! It's got a challenge - an obstacle to overcome.

True, it's not very deep, there aren't a whole lot of skills to master - well, I dunno, it seems to me when I push two directions at once the circles move faster ... maybe it's just imagination? Either way, I felt like I discovered a new strategy when I did that.

No prior experience making games? Color me impressed. I don't think I would have made it past the collision issues before I hid under a hole.

I went down and left every single time. Does anyone ever go right and up?

FACED by Sheepolution 2014-09-07T13:03:00

Wow very impressed with this simple little game! Well... seemingly simple. Get's challenging - which is good! I would love to see this developed further!

The music had me thinking that I was under a timelimit or that a move I did was wrong though.

Copulus by zapaman 2014-08-26T13:05:00

This seemed like the sort of game I wouldn't enjoy.

But it totally changed my mind, I played more than twice. Nice job, now I'm curious about more games like this. I hope you develop this further!

Bacon Installer by badlydrawnrod 2014-09-07T19:13:00

Really nice one, dude! Love the graphics and the concept, very well considered, it's more challenging than I anticipated and so more rewarding to play than I anticipated! Thumbs up!!

99 LuftWaffels by quill18 2014-09-07T12:52:00

Nice job! I agree with what was said earlier - the little animations of the various factories was a REALLY great touch. Gave the game tons of personality!

You're right - not totally going with the them but... well honestly most games just throw on an vague explanation as an afterthought anyway!

I love this idea! With a little more polish to keep the controls smooth it could be awesome!

One thing I would consider: use a different image and include the image in the play field. That way I can sort of orient myself and not accidently move my phone out of view of the image. Like the 3DS AR Card games.
