Surf Camp: The Legend of the Surf Ace by GertJohnny 2014-04-30T20:22:00
Loved this game. Looked good and felt great to play. Would like to see a larger variety of tricks if you continue working on this idea.

Loved this game. Looked good and felt great to play. Would like to see a larger variety of tricks if you continue working on this idea.
Really good use of lighting and narration to set the mood.
I loved it. Hope you keep working on it since I would love to see where this could go.
Really cool mechanics, though it would be nice if there was more motivation to split roots, such as some mechanic or obstacle that forced the user to split the root.
Does it make me a bad person if I murder dolphins just to hear the adorable game over lines?
This was great, couldn't stop smiling while playing. :D
Really liked the music. Overall the jumping felt pretty good, except jumping into one tile high gaps felt tougher than it should of been.
While probably not intended, I liked how I was able to maintain the momentum from the knock-back when hit by a fish or shark. It allowed a way to sacrifice some ship health to make a quick escape to the surface, and could even be used the other way to quickly reach deeper areas.
Return to real life? No, I wanna stay on Mr. Clown's wild ride. :D
Nice concept, though movement didn't feel that great. I think the main problem with it is how any movement other than straight forward is at a fraction of your forward speed. This often meant that when trying to make minor adjustment mid jump I would instead come to a dead stop and fall short. Otherwise it was pretty fun except for the random deaths in the maze.
Also liked the music, though it would of been nice if there was a smooth fade between tracks instead of a sudden cut.
Really liked the visuals and music. I like the gameplay idea, but I got bored fairly quickly from the lack of challenge.
Really liked the art and music.
That was fun, high score of 10!
Thanks for the positive comments so far! I've added an Android port, which is now available from the same link as the standalone versions.
@KevinWorkman Thanks for pointing this out. It looks like the file doesn't download correctly from OneDrive through chrome on mobile, and possibly other mobile browsers.
So I've added a dropbox link for the android version which should work better.
I really liked this. Nice job on the puzzle design, would love to see what you could come up with given more time with these mechanics. The graphics need some polish and the collision detection seems a bit off at times, but it's a great start.
Also, If you keep working on this I would suggest adding full controller bindings. It looks like the libraries you are using already have controller support since the game detected my xbox360 controller and moving and jumping worked with the joystick and a button, but none of the other actions were bound to controller buttons so I just played with the keyboard (which worked great).
Really loved the music and sounds, they fit the game great. The first part is a bit slow since the platform mechanics resulted in me waiting on the side a lot for a good platform. But then the second was much more fun and seemed to have a good difficulty curve as you got closer to the end.
Really liked the death effects and lighting. I also like the level design. Movement doesn't feel as tight as I would like, but it is a good start.
Nice artwork, and the jump feels pretty good. I like the idea of the two layers, unfortunately the speed at which the penguin falls paired with the way the camera scrolls would frequently result in me falling through that second layer before I could even tell where I was.
I like the arcade look. Controls with the arrow keys felt a bit floaty, but mouse control felt really good, especially as the levels started to get more hectic.
My head is still spinning.
Cool idea. Movement and combat felt a bit slow, but the jetpack improved that a little.
Really like the idea behind this. Could be a really cool larger puzzle game with some refined physics and more ball types.
Cool idea and fun game. Though it was really tough to catch anything until I played for a while and could better recognize how the contraband looked in the scanner.
Loved the idea. Still fun even playing solo.
Really liked the art and music. A bit simple, but fun and would fit great on mobile.
Really cool idea, though it would of been interesting if their were more varied goals.
Cool setup and good writing. It would be nice to be able to explore more of the opposite dimension with each character.
Nice, I really liked the feel of the controls.
Cool idea, and I like the art. The fire effects look nice, but at first I thought it would hurt me since it didn't look like it was in the background.
Thanks for the feedback. The update I just posted included some visual adjustments that should hopefully make it a little clearer how far the planets can get from each other.
The camera in the ground stages is meant to stay "behind" you based on your velocity, so it can be a bit finicky when you try to stop or turn around.
Really cool idea. Unfortunately it felt really slow, so it was tough to ever effectively attack the other player. Maybe some ability to accelerate and brake could help give a user more options to try to manipulate or outmaneuver their opponent.
But those are some really nice thuds whenever there is a solid collision.
Good job, I like that it feels like there's a good variety to the puzzles using the simple mechanics.
I like the concept and style. A bit simple but a good start for your first ludum dare.
Really like the art and concept.
Fun game with some really nice art.
Really liked the controls and visuals. Though as others have mentioned keyboard support would be nice for players without any controllers. Keyboard would also provide another player slot for those who want to play multiplayer, but don't have multiple controllers.
Fun game, and I really liked the progression between levels.
This might of been from how the game ran in my browser, but I found the soldiers fairly slow and easy to outmaneuver, so I was able to beat level 11 without killing any of them.
Took a bit to figure out the timing of when to come out from under the bridge, but after that it was fun. Really like some of his "awkward" lines.
Great concept. Very random, but still fun to play for a bit.
Hopefully you continue to expand on this idea. Perhaps by focusing on expanding the monster options and behavior to allow the player to predict/manipulate the princess' path.
