Argh! I suck at platformers, so after dying a few hundred time on the first two pits gave up. But overall a pretty nice and polished game, especially for the compo

Oh, this was quite short, such a great beginning. It looked really nice, the graphics and animations are great! :-)
Hope you get around to finishing it.
Yeah, my world got huge... oh, that wasn't the point? Dammit.
Nice work! The graphics are great, I didn't though it was a 3D rendering, great work there. Music is also quite nice.
Controls are a bit tedious, though.
Pretty much perfect! Incredible work for 48 hours!
Your story is great! :D
As for the game, it's quite addicting, just one more try :-). Great simple game!
Thanks for all the comments.
@devwil: I completely agree, browser based games are so much easier to try out. What I really wanted to do, was providing a Native Client version. But there wasn't enough time before the jam to get it to work. So next time!
@SusanTheCat: Thanks for the feedback, I really have no idea what went wrong. You put all files in the same folder?
@AirRider3: I'd love to, but I don't own a mac and have no idea how to build applications for them. Mmh, I'll look into it.
Work really great in the browser, compliments for that.
As for the game, it's a bit sandbox style, but there should be different prices based on the location of the houses (seaside vs. garbage facility ;-)). Otherwise the switch to the garbage collector was a nice touch :-)
Perfect! I love tower defense games, brilliant idea, really nice game.
Nicely done! I like the different color schemes, gets weirder and weirder :-)
I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I could only interact with the red thingies in the screenshot and I suppose I have to enable them in a certain order... I didn't found anything useful in the world.
Your timelapse video is quite nice, just watched it.
This is hard! I didn't get very far, but the concept and presentation are nice! Interesting music ;-)
Nice interpretation of the theme :-) And I love Cthulhu!
Wow. Really nice game, great art and its quite fun to play!
Nice, this is really fun to play, almost got everything grown, but not quite :-)
Wow, pretty impressive for 48h. Nice level design and really nice mood. Um the On-life sucks, but you already knew that ;-)
Nice little game. The graphics are really good! :-)
Nice concept. The fact that your shoots also destroy the globe makes it quite interesting to play. There's definitely more depth to it than I noticed at the first glance :-)
One or two sentences of explanaition what to do would have helped a lot. As said before, the voiceover is sometiomes difficult to understand. Nice music.
Upgrades!! I really like it! ;-)
There is a nice sense of progression when you and the enemies get stronger.
If only the universe would be infinite, I think this would help both, logic and gameplay.
Don't know how it works, but we managed to end the game.
Nice concept, finally made it to 200 ants. But you don't really have too much control over the whole situation. I almost made it just by removing all boxes.
Maybe this needs longer levels?
Nice game, great looking graphics. Feels really polished, too.
Nice fluent gameplay but gets repetitive quickly. But quite a solid entry.
This is really interesting, I like it. But somehow I feel stupid, 'cause I couldn't figure out what to do with the wood and stone. Can somebody explain?
Um never mind, I got it. Planning before you put down tiles might helps a lot :-)
So the volcano advances things quite a bit.
Beautiful game, absolutely fantastic graphics and sound!
But as some of the others, I'm stuck at the last two scouts. I can't interact with the bee hive and I still have the fork left...
@Knowledge and VDOgamez: You can set the resolution in the settings.txt :-). We set the default resolution relatively high, because the game is more fun if you have more space.
Someone else using pygame, nice :-).
For packaging up I can recommend cx_freeze., it's not perfect but for a windows build it works pretty well.
As for the game, I wasn't able to get very far, I could not make the long diagonal jump. But a decent entry for one day of work :-).
Nice puzzle game, and nice pecker graphics. :-)
First time I played I needed to figure out what I was supposed to be doing, but then everything worked really well.
Also the game is really polished for just 12 hours of work.
Very solid. Maybe the worm could be slower in the beginning. Before you understan what is going on, you are already flashed with sound and flickering screen. Otherwise very cool.
Pretty cool idea, and nice choice of music. PLaying gets quite hectic after a while. :-)
Great animations. I really enjoyed it.
Really nice music.
Hi, really nice game. I like the graphics very much. I hope you keep working on it.
I love the music and the graphics. Very nicely done!
Very nice graphics, but the controls were difficult.
- Great graphics, much love to detail
- Fun stomping on villagers
- very difficult handling of the weapons
- clear objective would be nice
I had no problem running it and I have 32-bit.
I really love it. Fine sound and art.
Wow, really cool idea and execution. Well done. Only thing was I couldn't really get a hang of the missiles. They seemed to keep spiraling away instead of hitting anything.
Really nice graphics and cool character!
Nice and simple game, and actually a lot of fun to play :-).
Cool game. I like the idea very much.
Hi, nice job! But slow it down a little.
Nice idea. Though it felt a bit monotonous, all this clicking on squares that barely changed anything. I got 5 layers down, but I didn't see the point. I don't know if there comes something awesome after all the clicking...
I couldn't collect any gold either, the counter wasn't increasing.
The art and music are quite good, but the monster sound gets annoying after a while :-).
I like the graphics(!), the assignments with sound and the idea of switching between above and below the sea-level.
Unfortunately its a bit hard to play with just one life and the key for shooting is not well placed. I am familiar with playing WASD with the left hand, but pressing CRTL in higher frequence was bit more difficult then. Furthermore when I hit it more often, it does not shoot every time. I think a little bit of cooldown is okay, but I did not understand the underlying period of time.
I like the idea very much, but it was very difficult to play, when I take into account how fast the enemies move and in how many directions they can shoot.
Walking outside the water seems to hang every step. Maybe that's intentional but it's still a bit irritating. Other than that a very nice (and long) game.
Very nice music and concept. The game was fun to play.
Nice idea and interesting game certainly. But as it stands it is very random if you even stand a chance to survive the first encounter. A better progression would have been nice. :-)
@peejaygee: Well, it is a Jam entry. And it was entered 1 hour before the deadline as a placeholder...
Really great effort! The characters are well designed.
The firing did not work for me. I used the Unity version.
@JoshyOshKenoshi: Definitely. We were just using the philosphers we were most familiar with. We plan to add more in a newer version.
@Jungle: Coll, thansk very much!
@Chesyr: Start with Kant or Hobbes if it is to difficult. We are still working on the balancing.
Very, very hard. But then again I suck at platformers...
Couldn't make ist past level 2. After like 20 tries made it through that Teleport - Swap thingie. But then again? Haha, not gonna try :D.
Very cool game. Nice theme _and_ cool mechanics. Also great animations.
I fell through the wall/floor.
When I kept spawning a projection and also kept pressing down-forward I ended up inside the next wall.
Then I could walk all the way to the exit :-).
Great art. Please work on the game, it would be really cool to have it finished.
Awesome clean graphics style! I love those forcefully exploding aliens. Feels very satisfying. The progression ssems a bit off, I had at like 1, 1, 2, 1, 6 aliens coming.
Could use a bit more variety, maybe different fruitweapons.
Great interpretation of the theme!
Well, that was weird. But very well put together. Although I think I found a bug, you get the reward money even if you immediately decide to jack out and not following through with the mission.
Please share the source as required by the competition rules: http://ludumdare.com/compo/rules/
The first time I tried to play the game the whole screen got engulfed in blood and after a minute or so the game slowed down to 0.1 fps. But that didn't happen on subsequent tries...
Anyway, nice entry, and fun game. Could indeed as others have pointed out could use a bit more variety.
I won! After trying to figure out how to put a script into another building, or rather on top of the X beside it. :-)
But nice work!
It crushes on opening ... :-(
Good start. It lacks a bit of a challenge though. Maybe the requests could be less straight forward.
Great entry. A most unconventional weapon. Also bonus point for technology used :-). Only thing is, it is mostly impossible to hit ships on the borders of the screen.
I also had no idea what to do. Somehow you can make big black balls. But I don't quite know how.
Nice game, I managed to stop the car from getting to work. :-)
Very cool game! Love the retractable beard!
Also super cool mood and lighting.
Awesome entry, loved finding all the endings!
Very nice take on Super Crate Box! The ball physics make it really fun to play.
Very nice game, I liked the terrain generation (and generally how the terrain looks) and the surprise ending :-). Well done.
As someone else said, I always mixed up the up/down controls. Used to them being inverted somehow.
Very nice work. The design is very cool. Sadly I don't get how to get past the J-Button-Tower. Probably the double jump does not work.
Very nice visual style but I agree some better feedback for what is scenery and what is an obstacle would be nice.
Thanks for your comment!
You have a really cool game and the music is perfect. This theme is a very interesting idea. Reminds me of a scene in Watchmen.
Very funny sound effects!! :-)
But what's the point of all the hens throwing their eggs at the intruders to defend - some eggs? :-)
Nice simple tower defense game altogether.
Well there are a few bugs: You can trap enemies behind corners and just keep killing them without getting hurt. (At least with the brendy and sausage). Also there seems to be some kind of lag/stutter sometimes, when new zombies are created?
So could use some work but a fun small game.
Cool idea and definitely an unconventional weapon. :-)
The control layout is a bit difficult for one player - I guess WASD + space + mouse would work better.
The sound effects are not very nice to the ears.
That is a really great interpretation of the theme.
I can not find the menu in the web version though.
Ouch! Sorry to say, but the music is unbearable to me :-(!
Otherwise it's a fun game!
Great music! Why did you decide to not be judged in the music category?
Very interesting entry. I love exploring these alternate reality world, where nothing really makes sense at first.
Also you never can tell if you encountered a bug or a "bug". :-D
@zlaine: Everything should work now. Submission hour ends in 1 minute :-)
@oparisy:
Thanks for playing. Yes, you can use buttons or coins and try to flip them into cups or other targets. Have you never done that?
@Bobsleigh: Haha, no the boss is not bugged. It was the best we could do in the last 10 minutes before the deadline. So it ended up as kind of a joke. :-)
It's very hard to aim and I can barely see the laser on my screen which doesn't help.
But definitely kudos for doing your own 3D engine!
As for the Linux package you don't need to install the dev versions of all libs. It works fine with just the libraries.
The game look very cool. Sadly no linux version :-(.
Wow! Definitely the best game I played so far. :-)
Very good job! Quite subtle use of the themes also :-).
Also it's quite a complex game for a compo entry. Takes a few plays to actually understand everything that's going on.
And thanks for the linux version! :-)
No Linux version :-(.
This is made in Unity, right? So can you provide one? Or alternatively a WebGL version?
Very nice game. The first two tries I was happily growing my strawberries when I suddenly lost. (What I want to say there is no in-game indication that you need to defend the home at night :-)).
Very humorous and nice sounds and visuals!
For some reason it crashes after the resolution screen. I use Linux x86_64. I tried different resolutions.
I didn't notice at first the raw materials run out. Kind of an important fact.
Also if you have not enough power once it's very hard to get back on track. Because you can neither remove buildings nor reassign power. And generators are expensive!
Also some sounds/music would be really nice.
Other than that this is a fun little game. Nice to let it run in the background ;-)
Hi!
You graphics look very cool, they remind me somewhat of starcraft's zerg. Sadly the game does not seem to start. I use linux_x86_64. I stays at "Launching... (this will take a moment)"
Hey, the game looks really nice, but sadly I can't play it on linux right now. But this is made in unity, right? Can you maybe export a Linux version or a WebGL version? Thanks! :-)
Thanks for the linux version!
I really like the nice and clean presentation of the game it looks really nice.
The concept is definitely interesting but I found the controls way too floaty to get anywhere near the end. I always ended up falling down. Or losing a cube. Very unforgiving and very frustrating (for me.).
Hello,
thanks for trying our game. What do you mean it does not run at level 1? Does it not work on your machine?
@your game: Sadly unity won't play on linux.
Waiting for the Linux Version! :-)
I managed to find a windows PC to run the game. Linux did not work, I tweeted you about that,.
Now to the game:
It is super awesome for an LDJam entry! Sound, graphics and mood are just perfect. The sneery narrator is a little bit overdone but that might just be me. It worked well enough.
A few points I noticed:
- Internet accesss, as noted before. I guess it's for an online highscore? But without knowing this, this is kind of bad.
- I too noticed the aiming is off. This is quite annoying.
- The first weapon upgrade changed nothing. I guess it already worked correctly before picking up the upgrade.
- You can sweep away chair and TV's but not the actual remains of the bugs. Like this would be your proper job! And the game does not allow you to do it! ;-)
I hope this didn't sound too negative. I consider your game one of the best I've played so far.
For me it crashes every few seconds. Maybe I always lose after a very short amount of time but there is not good enough indication on how to avoid that. Or maybe there are some more bugs.
++ For a very literal theme growing interpretation.
But definitely - for abusing the 2 Button control theme... :-(
Wow, that was really funny. And it was challenging to realise the new button movements. Nice Game!
No Linux version unfortunately :-(. Game looks interesting though.
I liked the animation of the appearing trees, that was nicely done. I covered the whole planet. There should not be trees on water though.
Sadly, there is no link.
Nice graphics and music!
But the game is very simplistic. Also not really a challenge once you understand what to do.
And there seem to be a few bugs: restarting only works somtimes. And in the starting menu there are three buttons without labels and I don't really know what each is for.
(Also could you provide a linux version? This should be no problem with unity, right?)
This looks really fun, but unfortunately there is no linux version :-(.
(And it doesn't run in wine after 5 minutes of fiddling.)
Your .love file does not work for windows, if I am not mistaken.
Awesome graphics and music. I loved the autogenererated landscape.
Great game. I liked the noises of Gertrude. It is not so hard, once you figure out the game. Sadly, I was a glutton and after findig the key I ate to much and got stuck in a cave.
I liked the game. I also got the better solution, which I don't want to spoil here.
I did not really understand why my people were getting unhappy, even if I got rid of all the reds, if they are afraid of them.
Very cool idea! Let's see where this goes :-).
Very creative game! At first you are a bit confused, and finally, you get you reward. Is there a way to not reach the ground?
Cool game. The sprites were well made and the advance of the enemies was very challenging. These poor birds though.
Very solid entry! Nice Art and sound effects (although they get a bit repetitive). I found it a bit distracting when a character was on stage multiple times.
Another thing that was not immediately clear to me was why are there two different buttons? I guess they have no effect on the judging, only on the corruption choices?
Maybe the controls be be optimized :-).
Fun little game. I liked the voice sounds :-).
I did some pygame projects in past Ludum Dares and I just build a Version for Linux of your game. You can find it here if you want to add it: https://cloud.bubu1.eu/index.php/s/LepyntSlO5lXR10/download
I missed jumping to pass the spikes! But when I read how they worked here it wasn't that hard to do.
Nice game, I liked the sonar idea. It was really tough to stay big though.
It's a funny idea but I have tried a lot of times and never seem to beat the first level. I don't know if I'm just doing it wrong, but it seems to be very hard to beat your game.
No Linux Version :-(.
Fun little game! Not quite an idle game. I like how you progressively can manage the more high level decisions and less your employees immediate needs.
I think I found a bug though. Employing someone with the name [ seems to have crashed the game (everything turn white).
This looks very promising, but could you provide a linux build?
Or a WebGl build if this works for you, but there is no Unity web player plugin for linux.
Very nice game. I really like your art style!
But I guess it needs some work. Farms did not really work for me because of pathfinding problems. Pacing could be improved and some reason to explore would be nice.
@OrangePop: I never had this problem, which version are you using?
@Osaft: I think it's just unknown to the AV because it's hosted on my personal site. So they block it by default. :-/
@StaNov: Thanks for trying it out. Well, the game is about shifting the shape of electoral districts, so it fairly fits the theme.
This is really awesome. The heart attack was super effective. Nice take on the theme.
We managed to get to the end. Extra point for the end 'puzzle'. :-) Very well done, it feels quite polished for an 48h entry!.
There is also nice flow to the puzzle difficulty, you definitely got the progression right. More puzzles would be nice of course, maybe with multiple unknown prisoners.
We made a game with a very similar yet somehow very different take on the theme interpretation, maybe you want to check it out :-).
Nice game. I really like the idea that the cat has this unearthly power to change the shape of its surrounding. Controls were a little bit weird, though. Biggest problem I had, that I died during the battle with that evil bad thingy and got totally stuck at the save point. I just couldn't get through to the fight seen any more. :-(
But nevertheless: good job!
itch.io is so incredibly sloooow. It takes almost an hour here to download the 100 MB version :-(.
And you don't have to distribute the .pdb files. These are just debugging symbols.
As to the game: Okaaaaay.... That was weird! But fun! :-)
Love the style btw.
Very nice game, it's very polished. It's really fun with two players. I especially liked the clean, nice aesthetics and sound.
We noticed a few minor bugs though:
- In the tutorial one player completely disappeared after using the sphere shape for too long.
- Sometimes you randomly get stuck where you cannot change your shape anymore and also cannot move.
- When activating two player mode you cannot go back to one player mode without restarting the game.
I'm interested in how you did the level generation, care to share your source code?
Ah! It took me a while to understand exactly how this works. The 'kill zone' is based around you, not the pillars you shoot. And it is moving with you. But after understanding that this is actually quite fun. The slow shoot speed has actually an advantage, here. Shoot the blue pillar then head into a pack of enemies. :-)
What I think is lacking is some kind of score/progress counter. Maybe a fixed time limit and count how many robots the player managed to kill.
Also one more thought. Maybe the shape of the pillar can represent the kill zone shape?
Oh another thing. You don't have to distribute the .pdb files. They are debugging symbols and just take up space in the build.
And could you provide a Linux/MacOS version? It's easy in Unity and then people without Windows can play your game.
Those graphics are really impressive! It's a nice click and point adventure. The adventure is quite short and the riddles quite simple, but its still great work for that short development time.
Looks really great and the music gives it a nice eerie touch!
Very nice, a maze game! We did one a few years back :-).
At first I missed the shift-speedup function and wanted to complain. That's what you get for playing first reading the description later.
Also I didn't notice any traps. There are some holes in the ground sometimes, but you can;t really fall into them.
I guess the levels are designed manually right now? Maybe you can look into generating some procedurally :-).
But I agree with dalbinblue that movement is a bit fiddly. So either try axis aligned movement as suggested or maybe you can remove the stickiness when moving along a wall.
I also agree on showing the goal position above the maze would be a nice incentive on where you'd have to go.
Very impressive work! Although I dint' get the name at first, I had to google shift dresses (not a native speaker) ;-).
Somehow itch.io hosting is sooooo sloooow. I'm downloading the 30 MB in 25 minutes. :-(
And per default it asks everyone to pay/donate something for the game.
As for the game: It would have been nice if there were a description for the items so that you have an idea what they are doing. And there is an issue with the inventory there were free slots left and I could not pick up any more items. But also when I dropped items more appeared in the inventory,
Other then that the game was enjoyable, the music quite nice and I managed to defeat the demon. Nice work.
This game has a great mood. It's dark and you feel quite uncomfortable beeing watched by a giant eye. :-D
Unfortunately, the controls are quite buggy. Not only was I constantly dying in the 3rd level (it was quite hard), randomly the controls just refused to work... :-( That's a pity, because I really enjoyed it so far.
Especially liked your memory graphics. ;-)
This was a great story and it got me hooked the entire game. The overall feeling of this game was great and everything fitted really nice into it, beginning with the nice old style map and ending with the goose quill sound.
Some typing errors, though. ;-)
It's a quite interesting idea. Of course, in this stage there is not really much to do. Also, you move quite slowly. It's of course more realistic and gives a feeling of empty space but I think it would be more fun, if you could speed up a little. Would also love to see movements in more than two dimensions (as you planned).
Very nice game! Impressive for 48h of work. Even more so the well done tutorials.
The web version wasn't working correctly though. I zoomed in and the screen got all grey and never recovered.
WASD to move is nice, but screen edge scroll would be really helpful I think.
In the third tutorial level our units stopped to attack each other after a while (I and the opponent both had 1 tank left). So I just ignored him and completed the level.
I managed to complete the city map fairly easily, but the desert map seems to be quite a bit tougher.
itch.io is so incredibly sloooow. It takes 20 minutes here to download the game :-(.
This was a nice game. Graphics and Audio were great, the was a bit short though. And I managed to hit a bug at the end I think. I died twice and on the third retry the shapes stopped moving. This made beating this level quite a bit easier.
Haha, that was weird. But funny! It wasn't too hard to figure out, what was to be done.
Graphics is fine, too. But maybe you should change the font style. It is illegible.
By the way. He died at the end but didn't choke. That means, I win, doesn't it? Or did I lose? I'm not sure. Maybe make that a little clearer.
Not bad, but it's really short (and easy). You could just send more and more enemies indefinitely and I guess it would be quite fun to play for a while.
Also I don't really see where it fits into the theme.
Funny background music :-)
It's a pity, it's not quite finished. It looks really cool and the overall mood is just right for the theme. But it lacks in gameplay at this stage.
But nevertheless it is really well done!
Please consider a fallback hosting solution to itch.io. It takes ages (20 min) to download your game for me. (Generally itch.io is soooo sloooow...)
Also you don't have to include the .pdb files in your archive. These are just debugging symbols.
To the game: Very well done puzzle game, I liked it a lot. I'm still working on the last two puzzles.
As already said, multiple undo steps would be nice. Also there seems to be a bug when docking multiple shapes at once not all are highlighted immediately.
I really like the variety of puzzle elements and how they nicely fit together.
Very interesting concept. The mouse movement was to coarse. I liked the different visuals and abilities very much. Maybe limiting the number of transformations was not a good idea. I got always stuck, when I had no food to transform but needed to transform to reach higher food. But awesome idea.
I quite like your graphics and style but the game itself is a bit simplistic. There is not much to do (shoot everything) and it's over quite fast. The concept of the good/bad butterflies is nice though, maybe something can be made from that :-).
Oh and by the way, why do corrupted butterflies actually attack UFOs? ;-)
I just kept exploding when I stopped the car. Is there an explosive that goes off, when I am too slow? Otherwise very good use of the theme. I like that multiplayer is optional. I
We also have an optional multiplayer in our game.
This game looks really nice and works flawless. Graphics are really good! I just think it is quite unnessecary to have us to press enter.
Also it is quite repetitive...
This game rocks. These random mutations make it exciting to play. Intense mood too!
Really good game! It's very, very fun to play. Not too easy and not too hard, I enjoyed finishing it. :-)
The general control of the characters reminded me a bit of the game Gish.
First of all, you don't have to include the .pdb files in your download these are debugging symbols databases, this could save ~40MB download size.
The game looks really good, but for rating your game it would be nice if you'd clarify what you did yourself and what you used from the asset store. Also the sounds/music is self-made or also from somewhere else?
As for the game, it is unfortunately quite glitchy. The Camera is jittery and the image is obscured by ceiling decorations sometimes. The movement fells floaty and awkwardly slow, especially in the troll form. Also it would be really nice to have combined animations for jumping + attacking etc.
There also a few bugs with the menu state. After I died no further waves spawned after choosing play again. And the character keeps moving when you enter the menu while it is already moving.
Unfortunately I can't really play this as I don't have the flash player installed anywhere. :-(
The game is indeed addictive, we played it for over half an hour :-). A few things that I think can be improved:
- Collision boxes. It feels very unfair at times, because you don't actually touched anything and die.
- Mouse lock. The mouse stops responding as soon as it leaves the game window.
- The music is a quite repetitive.
But otherwise a very nice game :-).
I really like your Graphics and the overall idea is good. But to join some of the former comments, I found it pretty hard to avoid some of the astroids making it a very hard game.
Also I could not hear any music. I was playing the Web version. Don't know, if I'm the only one with this problem.
But all in all good job!
I really can't play this with these keybindings! Please provide WASD or arrow key control. And PLEASE don't provide an installer for your game. Just an extractable archive.
Well made and polished game. But I just can't get the rotation right. I think it would be far easier for me if the left/right keys would just rotate the shape relative to it's current orientation. As already suggested maybe you could provide both control schemes?
Please make an extractable archive, not an installer.
It took us a while to figure out what is going on an what you actually have to do. Also the controls for player one and two are reversed. (Left Player on the screen plays with the right set of keys.)
Also it is really hard to actually destroy the other star before you run into a wrongly colored orb. I really liked the clean minimal graphics and the atmospheric music.
Nice Idea. Maybe there should be a bigger reward for freeing each village, maybe a new power so that you want to keep on playing.
Hi,
I liked the artstyle very much, and I think I got the idea of the game. I was able to sneak past the guards inside the chest, but after floating to the next level, I couldn't figure out what to do.
I think the idea to turn into game objects and use them to your advantage is great. Keep up the good work!
I can't figure out how to run this. It seems that the Windows link is just the source distribution. And there is no executable file.
