@mildmojo: Warbler and then launch4j. Only downside is it needs a JRE 1.6+ to be installed otherwise you end up with silent errors, as other commenters are.
The other problem is you need to be in the same working directory as the native libraries included due to how warbler makes jar files.
While the development process in Ruby itself was pretty good, the bundling and performance issues lead me to think just going with Java is the better course of action for future Ludum Dares. Especially because getting an applet to work was nigh on impossible :-(
I couldn't really work out to do but had a go! The enemies moved around with my tower for some reason. But I hope your grandpa gets better soon!
The first time I ran it, it flashed black and white rapidly in a seizure inducing kinda way. But second time it was OK! :-) The controls were a bit confusing and random.. B to get back to the menu, then Tab.. Q and X for the TNT? The music was awesome though! The best music I've heard so far in this LD, reminds me of Gran Turismo 5.. so def a 5 there. Like the art style as well.
Definitely a nice focus on the design, as other people have said :-) It's odd to see a game that has such nice "design" although the art is quite simple.
Really enjoyed this. Much harder than it looks on the surface. Also really enjoyed the writeup on the blog. I def recall a game in the 80s on the BBC Micro that involved conveyors and reversing them, etc, forget what it's called. Anyway, nice one.
Clever idea minimally implemented. Nice one!
I really enjoyed playing this. I've seen some complaints about the controls but I found it pretty smooth and easy.
Turns out it works on even IE 9.. so I've removed the browser requirement. Everyone enjoy! (as long as your browser is reasonably modern and Flash is enabled for the audio)
Not MIDI! It's MP3, I recorded it live. If you let it play, you get a bit of an easter egg at the end of the tune :-)
The record timewise so far seems to be 11 seconds (both I and someone on Twitter got this - haven't heard any lower yet).
Throbbery: You hold the world record! Now I need to play again ;-)
Will look at Safari. In theory it should be much like Chrome but admittedly I never tested in Safari at all..
Woo-hoo, finally got 8 seconds! :-) @namuol: Thanks for the great review. Yeah, the game mechanic is not so great and needs a lot of tinkering to be truly interesting to play. @Drabiter: Agreed, it is short. I only came up with the idea a few hours before submission time and I "wasted" the rest of it playing with HTML5, Canvas, and learning how to put a similar game framework together. But now I can use it for a better entry in LD24 hopefully!
More fun that it looks at first! :-)
I didn't "cheat" although I did see these comment which kept me trying. It was after the two [censored spoiler]s I got the joke and knew what to do ;-) A classic, surely.
Wow! I like this idea. Very quick to get into and a great use of HTML5. Found this a genuine challenge. Enjoyed playing this one more than most.
