Can't play the game because of an error stating that I am missing file "MSVCP71.dll"

gavin5564 2012-04-24 03:12

The graphics and music where pretty awesome. Although the game confused the hell out of me, I just couldn't work out how to place the end points from point A to point B to make them destroy lines, They kept turning red and didn't do anything. Either way, Good job.

TheGamingProject, that type of error usually means you need to install a visual studio redistributable package or he needs to include the DLL in his package / installer.

Um... It comes up with an error: "Failed to load DLL (2 DBProImageDebug.dll)"

download link is broken for me

Hi Guys, yeah sorry about anything that's buggy, I'm afraid to say we didn't have enough time to debug the game or test the level designs properly or make a proper introduction to the controls. In fact it's admittedly not a game atm, but we thought we'd show our hand anyway :)

gavin5564 - Thanks! They were my handiwork! I had a whole text dialogue written that was going to explain the controls perfectly.

TheGamingProject + Topaz - Sorry about that, my brother is at work right now, we'll try and get the game patched up ASAP so it at least starts.

Gornova - That's strange, do you get to the 2shared page? it might take a moment for the download to start. I'll try and find a more reliable space to upload.

brotherst 2012-04-24 15:06

@TheGamingProject - Oh dear. Are you running on Vista or Windows7 perchance? We only tested the game on XP, and from a quick Google, it seems like this DLL is no longer provided as part of Windows. We will upload a new archive with the DLL included ASAP, but if you want to try out the game in the meantime, it is freely available to download from
various websites (just stick in in the same directory as the executable).

@Topaz - From another Google search, this would perhaps indicate that you have an old version of DirectX. Try installing at least DirectX 9.0c, and if that doesn't work, is it perhaps that your graphics card is very old?

@gavin5564 - Press space to place the end points. If you place the end points at the opposite sides of the level, in either the same column or row, that column or row will collapse, shrinking the world! You must walk off of the column/row before it can collapse, however. Sorry for the lack of instruction. We did plan for more tutorial-style levels, but ran out of time. Thanks very much for taking the time to play though!

Wasn't quite sure what to do. Art style was pretty and interesting but music was mediocre.

brotherst 2012-04-24 21:33

The download now includes MSVCP71.dll, so it should work for Window Vista and Windows 7 users.

susanthecat 2012-04-24 21:43

A good start on what could be a good game. Unfortunately, as you have pointed out, it is incomplete. I never figured out how to set end points. I did make it to level 8 by running off the side of the world and running around in the blackness.

cakencode 2012-04-25 09:32

Despite the collisions with walls and the darkness freaking the game out, the removing of whole sections of the level was a really cool mechanic. Hope to see it fleshed out and more playable! Also, love the art direction, makes the whole thing seem ominous and intriguing.

brotherst 2012-04-25 17:32

@SusanTheCat - haha! I only managed to glitch into black space once, but I have no idea how you skipped levels by doing so. Seeing as how we didn't design it to be possible to make it to level 8 without pressing 0, I think you must have mastered the game?

@Cake&Code - hmm, I'm not experiencing the black space glitch much, but there are plenty of other glitches to enjoy. Thanks! I enjoyed doing the art, ominous was what I was going for!

Thanks for the optimism both of you, I'm hoping we can finish it soon without having to do too much work on it. Other games to finish, you know :)

I do like the puzzle aspect to this. Though I do wish the game would work better as half the times I couldn't figure out what to do or if the game was just bugging out. I feel the game has a lot of potential if you plan to ever finish it.

blackdogg 2012-05-01 12:28

Maybe I could use a little bit of help, I didn't understand what to do... I like the art a lot anyway
