LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

PhotoBound by PIXEL^3 2014-12-24T13:58:00

I really love the mechanic of having the camera be an essential element to the puzzles. This idea is a great game mechanic that works really well. I loved everything about this game. It was challenging, yet simple and required experimentation to solve the puzzles.

My only gripe is that I was not able to get past the level with a ton of spikes while the camera was rising on the floating platform. My character would die while he was rising for no apparent reason. I did not hit the, but he would still die while the ground beneath him rose, making getting to the top impossible. I'm not sure if this was intentional to have the character die like this, but it was not very obvious how to NOT die and solve the puzzle.

Snowman Slide by Zanzlanz 2014-12-09T00:56:00

Loved the main music loop! The game was really fun as well. I felt a little misled by the coins at first. It seemed to me like they should be all attainable without having to purposely backtrack or go in circles. The graphic for the level select is really cool too.

Game of the Probability Goose by Alexandre Szybiak 2014-12-22T13:29:00

The concept was a very good one! It made the player decide whether spending coins for a dice with higher numbers was worth it or not (sometimes it did not give favorable outcomes). Great work on the graphics, they all look very cute and crisp. The dice graphic looked really well done. An idea to expand on this game more: have more punishing spaces closer to the end of the game rather than having them evenly dispersed throughout the whole board. It would create more tension to be the first person to finish. Additionally, as a player, I felt very little incentive to not immediately spend coins. Perhaps if there were even more rare (rarer?) dice that cost 5 coins, there may be an added layer of decision for the player to decide whether or not they want to spend or save. Overall, great game, great concept and awesome graphics.

Snowkoban by BuzzJeux 2014-12-29T17:32:00

A good start to a puzzle game! Graphically, this game looks amazing. The background, UI, tiles, characters, and everything look great. The intro song is a good rendition as well.

There seemed to be a strange perspective issue when the snowman was one tile above a present where it would look like he was standing on top of it. This was there in the second level too where it looked like tiles were on top of the snowman. Overall, a good submission!

One Screen Game by swipefaststudios 2014-12-09T01:08:00

The spikes were very particular about when they could be crossed. I got tripped up a couple of times as the spikes were on the way down, yet I still walked over them. I loved the instructions. Very calming.

H.T.P by rottenmage 2014-12-10T19:09:00

I really like these types of games. At first I thought it was the logo and said to myself, "why isn't the game loading?" I started pressing some buttons and then I was hooked. I really like the concept because of the humor of it. You don't know if anything you're doing is accomplishing anything, which causes some hilarious results. Very interesting concept and I wish that you would expand this game to have some sort of 'end' to it in the future!

0000 : Press Z by alvarop 2014-12-11T15:43:00

Awesome! The controls felt really good. This game was incredibly difficult, but I liked the death/new level concept when you died or cleared it.

Clouded Day by valid4life 2014-12-09T01:34:00

Nice platformer! Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to the end because one of the boxes got pushed up against a wall with no way to get it out.

Oscillation by MaddeMichael 2014-12-29T18:25:00

Nice submission! I agree that the robot does move too slow in the beginning though. I didn't really want to drag through the first moments of the game, but I found the wheel which improved it greatly. The graphics were pretty good and the dark atmosphere was easily achieved. The music was just ok. Great submission!

Jamception by Crocanti de Pollo 2014-12-10T20:09:00

Very nice and very meta concept. It turns out that I am not very good at not checking my phone.

Snowman Drop by Viza 2014-12-29T13:45:00

Nice work considering what your situation was! A neat little mobile game!

FlipDrop by ForeignGuyMike 2014-12-11T16:30:00

Nice concept! I was not very good at the game, but it was very fun.

Sweep Stacks by excaliburjs 2014-12-24T14:26:00

An excellent puzzle game. I really liked standard mode. Challenge mode seemed a little too hectic for me though, but that idea was good as well. The music was nice and calming, but I got bored of it after playing for so long. The guitar sound effects were a cool touch and fit well with the background music. It would have been a good touch in my opinion to add something like "nice!" or "great!" if you made a really good combo and got rid of a lot of blocks like a lot of puzzle games do. It would keep interest levels up. Overall, an interesting concept and great execution!

Snowmän! Factory by puppetmaster 2014-12-24T13:23:00

Everything about this game was excellent. It did a good job of teaching me what the different tiles did by forcing me to use them to solve the puzzle. Good level design, and good concept. The music and sound was excellent. I really liked the background music; it was very pleasant and didn't get on my nerves. The credits music was awesome. I wanna make a snoooowmaaaaaan ♫

Disco Kitty Nightmare by Alendro 2014-12-23T17:47:00

Excellent music, keeps well with the disco theme. I also liked how the blocks changed color to the beat of the music; it was a nice touch. The cat was very hard to see against the black background, and it was hard to maneuver around obstacles while still shooting the enemies. I think I found items and health up, but for some reason couldn't use them. Some directions on this could have been more clear. All in all, loved the disco theme and music, but gameplay could have been tightened up to make a better overall experience.

BLAZE by taviandir 2014-12-23T17:05:00

Nice concept! I liked the audio clips that would play whenever something happened. The game itself, in my opinion, was very difficult. I would either run into an enemy or hop onto a negative stat effect before I could even react to seeing it. I feel like there should be a little more brightness initially to introduce you to the game before immediately jumping you into it. Nice concept, but very difficult to play.

MAN vs TWITCH by KittyMac 2014-12-23T17:39:00

Very solid gameplay! I can imagine that this would be fun if you had a busy Twitch channel. I played Solo Arena, and it got pretty crazy very quickly. The game was very fun. I had some type of audio bug though, which multiple instances of the background music would be playing at once which sounded like a cacophony of guitars and drums (maybe caused by going to the menu multiple times).

Sweet Honey Bear by Larry 2014-12-22T17:53:00

Very nice concept. I like the zoom in when you actually get near the honey. The difficulty seemed somewhat unfair at times, as I was constantly forced out by the bees with no visible path to get to the honey. Additionally, I couldn't find a way to get to the 'buy' or 'heal' stands and didn't find any directions of how to get there. The bear was very cute. Overall, it was a very nice first game that fit the theme very well.

Retro Fairground by Sir_Kovitch 2014-12-09T01:11:00

I like the concept! But I felt there was too much going on at once. The graphics and retro feel were excellent though.

OneView by Ciaran Lyne 2014-12-10T16:43:00

The music for the game was EXCELLENT, especially the title screen. The game wasn't very difficult and I didn't see a score in the top right at the end. Overall, a nice little game.

Sugarbound by PixelCrust 2014-12-10T16:32:00

I really liked the title screen and the music at the start. It gave off this kind of creepy atmosphere for a winter-themed game. The game was pretty fun but I was bad at it. Three hits seemed to be too few in my opinion. I thought the portraits were a nice visual touch when you got an upgrade, but sometimes they stuck around for too long and obstructed my view of the right side of the screen. Overall, a very nicely designed game.

Block Drop by SirJavaGaming 2014-12-09T16:51:00

I enjoyed the concept! The music was very nice and relaxing. I also liked the idea of adding more tiles as you progress. I feel like you could have went one step forward by introducing more rare tiles that would require longer searching or a more restrictive time limit. Overall, I thought it was very good.

GraviFlip by oh_andrej 2014-12-10T18:55:00

Love the graphics for this one. I am always a big fan of Gameboy palette and the sprites are very good. The concept reminds me a lot of VVVVVV, but with more a survival and point-gathering twist. The only part I found irritating were the enemies that would flip when you would. I found it very difficult to decide whether I was above or below them, which led to some quick deaths. Maybe these enemies could have fallen faster to give the player some time to place themselves above it. Overall, I really liked the graphics and the concept!

Chroma Maze by gana0 2014-12-29T16:20:00

Wow, I'm kind of embarrassed that nobody pointed that out until just now. I think it is because I had it for 64 bit Windows. I added a link for a 32-bit version. Let me know if that works!

Channel Surfing by RockhopperGames 2014-12-29T13:25:00

I really liked the graphics on the TV. The RGB effect as well of the static seemed very authentic. The TV remote controls were very solid and seemed to function exactly as how a TV remote should. I also thought it was clever how a lot of the channels (especially the higher ones) had nothing on them. Very true to real life. The static and rabbit was a clever function too. Interesting concept and ideas, but I'm not sure if there's enough "game" here. The penguin game is fun, but a little bit unintuitive and grows old pretty quickly. Very good use of theme, graphics, and other ideas, but not enough "game" for my tastes.

Monsters by Rulrite 2014-12-09T17:33:00

Amazing game! Love the Game & Watch feel and theme throughout the whole thing. The graphics look very well drawn and look like it could have been an actual Game & Watch game. I really enjoyed it!

My Way Out by victorafael 2014-12-23T17:55:00

Neat visuals. I liked the combination of 3D blocks and 2D characters, although sometimes the blocks became a little confusing as to where you could land on them. Since the blocks are angled toward the outside, it was a little hard to tell where the end of the block was based on my 2D character. The jump and movement felt a little slow to me. The block rearranging animations were cool and the sprites were great as well. The music had nice atmosphere as well. Overall, a very nice platformer with cool 3D and 2D effects. I felt that the physics could have been more responsive or faster.

Turn a cave! by Night 2014-12-23T18:11:00

Interesting puzzle game concept! It was a little hard to tell where caves ended or simply didn't connect, especially when standing on an end.

Patricia I by theFireman 2014-12-10T16:49:00

I'm a sucker for Gameboy palettes and Game & Watch games, so I thought the graphics were great. The graphics of the people at the beginning/end with the music gave me an eerie feeling and I don't know why. I would have liked to see a replay/new game option at the end.

SIRTET by stray 2014-12-09T18:04:00

Awesome variation on a classic game. It definitely made me think about where to place each piece. Very simple, but very effective design!

Orange Juice by Enchae 2014-12-09T16:43:00

Awesome music. The platforming mechanics seemed great and felt really good. My only gripe was that enemies would either fall right on top of me, or wouldn't fall where I wanted them to. Otherwise, I thought the dead enemies at platforms idea was very interesting.

Snow Box by omaha 2014-12-10T16:37:00

I thought the way that the camera moved to show the player's location and a lot of the surrounding area was a really cool touch. All of the 3D elements look really well done. The player's movement felt a little slow or slippery and it felt a little bit difficult to aim. I think this game needs just a few tune-ups but it was very enjoyable!

Spirit of Nakagawa by sorceress 2014-12-09T16:52:00

Your Dropbox link doesn't seem to be working.

Evolution Sim by Lupins 2014-12-09T17:02:00

Interesting idea! Some of the creatures got stuck in the corners and sides after letting it sit for a while.

Rainbow Maze by FrozenCow 2014-12-09T01:30:00

Very nice concept. I'll admit I didn't make it all the way to the end though :( Very cool interpretation of the theme though!

Duck, Jump, Die by Divitos 2014-12-25T14:22:00

The music was excellent. Very jazzy chiptune. The game itself was very good too. I wish that the ducking state would last longer. You had to be very precise with the timing while ducking.
