Really great job, I had good laugh. I know how tight time can get in a game jam but i would have appreciated subtitles for the voiceover, as it is very hard for me to understand what they are saying over the motor noises.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD49 → Time Rift Racers

@spawnie Thank you! I'm glad you had fun and enjoyed it. I've noted down subtitles for the next gamejam! :D
Fun little racing game. Not too sure about the link to the theme but I laughed at the voices :)
Great job!
This was awesome! Loved the intro scene with the two random commentator dudes, and the 3d environment was so well made! My opponents were no match for me however, especially since they got stuck at the first gateway. Well done.
Hey @D3kryption, congratulations to a very cool game! I enjoyed playing it very much. The car sounds combined with the boats and the Commentators were super funny and the portals (which were black walls - design would be cool) to make the race unstable was also top. Very well done!
Well made little racing game for how quickly it had to be made. Controlled rather well, but I was bummed I didn't get a portal until right before the race ended!
@rayredd Thank you! :D The link wasn't absolutely as clear as I had of hoped as I ran out of time. But the portals were going to randomly spawn between different eras making you jump unstably to other worlds :)
@osh-studio Thank you! :D I'm glad you liked the characters. I didn't make the scenes (I wish I could!) but I did transform them correctly lol :joy: yes the AI is a little toooo easy :joy:
@hoffi309 You liked the audio? hahaha I wasn't a fan of the car to boat sounds but I ran out of time :joy: glad you enjoyed it tho my friend! :D
@ericbomb thank you for playing! :D the portals can spawn twice during each map once near the start and near the end during each lap, so 6 portals with 60% chance :)
It's super silly, I like it :)
First: The intro was lit! Loved the cameras in the corner. It felt like an e-sports competition. :)
Music in the Race was too quiet for me and i would have appreciated a pause menu to restart, because i had a bug with the Horse. When i touched it with the experimental character i clipped into the ground and could not steer. But the Gameplay and the mood was really fun! And i like the effort you put in your description :)
Everyone else has said almost all there is. All i can add is, its a little too shiny. Loved it though
>The cars sound too much like normal cars lol Need to learn FMOD more
You know what, you don't. I honestly thought that was a deliberate joke until I read that.
Anyway, It's a fabulous idea, that has so much potential. The one that springs to mind is randomized portal placement and destinations. That would add so much variety, but I imagine how much time that would add for each level But anyway, it is still an enjoyable (if a bit dull due to AI issues) game even in the current state, great job!
@binaryspark Thank you! Glad you liked it! :)
@magicstunts123 Haha! I'm glad you saw what I was going for :D I agree a pause menu would have been good :) Ahahah yeah! Ralph wasn't the most stable. Thank you <3
@popertots Thank you :) I agree a little too shiney!
@apple-dash I never thorght about it being a joke, I'm glad that seems to be the opinion! :D thats good. Its not a bug its a feature then :P
Thank you! Glad you had fun :D
Портальные заезды на кораблях и телегах - это прекрасно! Валькирия и торговец - кто из них лучше? Надо проверить!
Surprised this has so few comments. First off I'm impressed you had time to make all those environments (even though there are some glitches like floating trees). I think the concept is good and the game plays well for a racing game made in such a short time (the AI unfortunately gets stuck sometimes). I like the camera-portraits updating in real time. I think this would have been even better if you had developed the 'unstable' theme more, with more portals to more weird places, but even so, great work!
Well, if I can't delete these then I may as well make use of them. MORE SHINING PRAISE!!!
Well done with the lighting. I can never figure out how to get the effects that I want—most of which are over ambitious anyway—when I us HDRP.
Love the announcers. It reminds me of Ratchet and Clank: Deadlocked.
The voice acting isn't horrible! Some full games can't even manage that. Good work.
Uhh... I'm running out of things to say... Okay, I may be completely wrong about this but, the "karts" seem to be all wheel drive, so the handbrake stops all of the wheel. That keeps them from sliding like I would expect.
Used 'em all, yeah!
^^^ I don't know what happened up there... sorry...
I'm a wordy bastard, so apologies in advance for the wall of text. I was surprised to see camera dolly in the opening, nicely done.
The AI couldn't seem to figure out how to handle the portals. They just kept piling up in a corner.
My first instinct is that the cars are floating because you made the mesh colliders on the ground convex, and thus extend above the mesh itself. My second is that the wheel colliders are lower than the mesh they are associated with.
Every time I came out of a portal I would spawn inside of a wall, and it would take a bit of wiggling to get control of the all-terrain longboat.
I honestly thought that you added the controls to the boats, stared the game, heard the default sounds, and thought it was too funny to "fix".
You should be able to just create an assembly definition for asset store packages and add the missing references that popup in the console. If there are any editor scripts, you'll need to make separate defs for those and mark them as editor only.
You named the enemy, perfection is now in your power. Slay it. :dagger:
A fun idea, and it looks great. It's nice that you made the effort to include a responsive VO and the opening cinematic is a nice touch too. This project may have been a bit over-ambitious for the length of the jam, and many important things don't seem to work. For example, other racers provided no competition, because they didn't seem capable of navigating around the track, and instead got caught on the side of the track. I'd also prefer a different visual presentation for the portals, as I thought the one in the castle door was just a dead end at first. Something glowing or sparkly could still be opaque, keeping the technical requirements limited, but look more like some sort of magical transportation portal rather than a solid black nothing. This game is super charming and very much a jam game with all of its quirks. It made me laugh and I had fun sailing in my car, driving in my boat. Thanks for sharing!
@xpoho Валкри лучше. У торговца очень глючит лол
@feor thank you for the very nice comment! I built the worlds up via existing models but I did indeed assemble them. The AI is very glitchy but I think that was down to changing their AI via the portals :joy: Thank you for playing! <3
@tiranice I freaking love your comments :joy: I love it! Thank you! I always struggled with lighting but I just kept watching tutorial after tutorial until I had a basic grasp of it. Getting better! :) I did base the intro voice acting on the Ratchet and Clank (ps4) game lol I have recently been playing it I do try to make the voice acting not annoying and as good as I can :D The AI did give up with the portals lol I wish I had more time to target that issue but tis what it is :D I made the ground convex without actually knowing what it does. The AI pack I used (Universal Car Controller) just said it had to be lol :joy: it seems to be the common opinion that people found the boat car noises funny lol Thank you for your comment :)
@samuel-hollywood-summers thank you for your very nice comment. I do agree it was very ambitious. On my dev logs I stated how I Wanted 3 - 5 maps :joy: :joy: I agree the AI was farr to easy. Thank you :)
Had an issue when I flipped just after the first rift and ended up nose down and unable to move. Screenshot.png Could find a way to free myself or quit the game. Had to tab out and close it and restart it.
I was using the Linux version. Glitchy and unplayable on a load end graphics card but seems to run fine on a GTX 1650.
Also, there were a few floating trees.
All in all, a good offering that just needs play testing and polishing to make it a finished game.
@malcolm I've not seen that glitch before and thats fantastic :joy: I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Yeah the HDRP doesn't offer very good playable on low end GPU's I think. Thank you for playing :D
Fun game! I haven't seen a racing game in the jam yet, and there is a lot in this one given the time-constraints. Gameplay is fun and voice over was a great addition. I did have some problems with the AI (they got stuck running into a wall over and over at the very start of the game), but I honestly think the racing is fun enough if there was a timer or points or something added I wouldn't care about a lack of opponents. Overall really fun and ambitious game. Great job!
5 stars in all categories! Did made it alone? For 72 hours? Fantastic!
A really fun game, an interesting idea, and very beautiful graphics. The plot is also very cool, but as for me, it does not really fit the general theme. Also, sometimes the AI gets stuck in certain places and it becomes too easy to win. In addition, the main character also sometimes gets stuck in textures (for example, when playing as a trader, he gets stuck at the end of the city in the cobblestone road) and flips over unnaturally. However, it's fun to play this game
Game looks beautiful. Impressed with models and environments, I appreciated the extra touches like the picture-in-picture of contestants and the commentators. Certainly has its glitches with collision and AI and is a very short game, but graphics certainly bolster it up.
Good job with the game description, a lot of work! xD I found the game very fun, I am surprised by the amount of elements you were able to do in such a short time O.O !!! Well done!!!
