This was incredible! I played it the whole way through before realising there was an 'interact' key, so then I played it through again so I could talk to everyone. My favourite planets were the cube planet for being different and the volcano planet for being the prettiest / having bouncy lava. Amazing work!

morbidcamel101 2017-05-01 06:59

Excellent stuff! Very enjoyable and graphics and audio is spot on. Great composition!

skywilly 2017-05-01 11:57

Great game ! Very cool mechanics. Visually, it's really interesting.

dink-dunk 2017-05-01 12:03

Thanks for the comments everyone! It means a lot to us!

iron-leonem 2017-05-01 13:56

An over all stellar game. I like that your game makes a point about conservation without being too on the nose about it. I did find slipping between the world shards did not always give me a gameover, and there was no easy way to quit without Alt-F4ing. Graphics were great, music was awesome. Thank you so much for posting this!

endlessplumber 2017-05-01 14:02

Fun game, love the graphics and the music. I really enjoy the 3rd spherical platforming concept, and the entire game works together to make a tense-feeling push your luck kind of experience.

The jumping needs to be a little tighter controlling, I think. I felt a little 'floaty' which made it hard to estimate where I would land. I also kept getting hung on bits of terrain. This made the jumping experience a bit frustrating at times, as I would get hung, jump awkwardly, and fall to my doom. Since the game's main (only?) mechanic is jumping, that made the experience a little rough at times.

I hit a couple other minor nits, like getting stuck halfway down a crevice or inside a planet and not 'dying', so I had to hang around to respawn. Also, twice the escape chunk glitched in the planet or threw me off it, although it didn't affect level progression.

In spite of those small issues, this is one of the most engaging and 'complete' feeling games I've played for this jam. I had a fun time playing and recommend others give it a try, too. You guys did a great job!

technonugget 2017-05-01 14:40

I have no idea what in the hell I was doing, but I sure had fun doing it.

The collisions were a bit off, the character would get stuck on the edges a lot, and due to the nature of this game, there were a lot of edges.

The music was great. really pumped you up and was intense.

I played through it 3 times, high score: 93 I didn't find the secret planet /:

would be nice if it saved your highest score and showed you your total and high score throughout the whole time your playing so you can try and actively reach it. as well as high scores for each individual planet.

Over all I really liked it and spent much more time than I thought I would [:

max-amaden 2017-05-01 14:41

Very cool game. It's always impressive to see how you always gravitate towards the centre of the planet. The dialogue that each of the aliens speaks to you is also very entertaining. I got 84 resources in the end. :)

Keep up the good work! :D

radmccool 2017-05-01 15:46

Really dig the aethetic of this. the controls are a bit loose though it feels unfair to complain considering its a 3d platformer made in 3 days... The lava planet was my fav, took a few goes just checking it out.

stupidpawn 2017-05-01 17:02

Pretty good game. It had some visually interesting planets, like the lava world. But sadly most world were a little generic, same mechanic and nothing really that distinguished them from the others. The collision was buggy at times but it never stopped me from playing. The objective was really simple, this is okay for a game jam but it didn't really feel like playing the game again. The music is nice. It had its funny moments with the dialog, even though the first time I didn't know there was a interact button. Maybe that button should have come up if you were near a character. In summary: the game has it flaws but I still enjoyed it. Well done!

abhimonk 2017-05-01 23:04

Great job! The jumping felt a little clunky at times, but it's very impressive to have created this 3d platforming all in a game jam. It felt a little repetitive at first, but I thought the level shapes were varied enough to keep me interested. I liked the little dialogues here and there. The platforming, while sometimes hard to control, was satisfying. One little thing I liked a lot was how the music started as soon as I collected the first object on the planet. Things like that make the experience all the more memorable. The low-poly art was good. It all fit together very well, which is what matters most. I also liked how the level gets progressively harder as time goes on (since the planet starts to fall apart). Overall, great work!

occultone 2017-05-01 23:08

I played this on Livestream Today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGr9VAOjIQs

Great job, the core game is really engaging. I think the play on 3D Platformers is really great especially for a jam game. I'd like to see tighter controls with the character controller. Maybe some more options for the player to lose time? A High Risk High Reward function for the game?

ilseroth 2017-05-01 23:09

Overall I like it, I have a couple beefs but it's mostly me nitpicking. For one, I'm not sure if the escape rock is randomly chosen, but once it was a tiny slice of rock that when blasting off I immediately fell off of despite standing on the center of it. In addition when I found the escape rock as soon as the counter started, it kinda of made it awkward just standing on the rock... maybe have the ability to set it off early or something? I know it's just 10 seconds but in what is otherwise a snappy time based game it just feels weird to stand around.

Also, is there a benefit or anything to collecting a lot, does it say increase your time on the next planet, or is there a score, or something? Also after about 5-6 planets I started to lose interest due to lack of variety. Rather then having a bunch of planets that you rapidly go through, having more interesting mechanics on each planet would have spruced things up.

And more nitpicking! Sorry I just kinda write whatever comes to mind, but I'd have appreciated the UI be a bit more individualized... at least a font fitting the game or something like that.

Well my capacity to pick nits not withstanding, the game is well made, looks pretty good, and has more content then expected for a Ludum, just woulda preferred less content that was spicier than more that kinda felt repetitive.

Thanks for the game <3

cartercook 2017-05-01 23:32

Everything about this game is well beyond a typical LD game, it's clear that you all work well as a team :). The skyboxes, character models, and animations floored me. the game is very tongue-in-cheek about its subject matter, like the alien talking about taco night while his planet is dying. I think it enhances the tone of the game. In terms of what @endlessplumber was saying, the main character could certainly benefit from a drop shadow to help estimate where they will land. Overall, it's a technically impressive and solid game.

morrilet 2017-05-01 23:37

I grabbed 76 thing-a-boops! This was super well done. I found myself yelling apologies to the poor aliens just trying to feed me soft tacos. I knew what was in store for them... As for planets, my favorite planet by far was the green cube one. My only complaint is that sometimes you get a little stuck with the jumps (I only collected 2 items on the dark matter planet because I was scrambling to stay up). Aside from that, I thoroughly enjoyed this.

tombishopspg 2017-05-01 23:38

Great idea for a 3D platformer. Love the idea that the planet breaks apart and its a risk/reward of keep jumping around or sit on the escape pod for safety. 2 things. If you make WASD the movement then make the action keys on the right side of the keyboard. For example jump could be UP instead of space. I basically played one handed which wasn't great. Secondly I would enable some kind of way to escape early. After dying a couple times I decided to not risk it and just sit on the platform at the beginning of the countdown and then I ended up just sitting there.

jamesy012 2017-05-01 23:56

Cool game. animations and idea are definitely cool.

the few problems i had with it are getting stuck in the cracks, very very annoying, during the last level when looking for the escape pod I was just blindly jumping not knowing if i would be in a place to land on anything or if I was heading towards the escape pod. also unsure what those pickups do, is it just for score?

Could definitely do with a a way to get unstuck and move around easier, that part felt a little off. also what were those people on the planet's doing? asking for tacos and money, it added to the slightly weird vibe the game had

managed to get a score of 94, falling through the cracks a lot

devastus 2017-05-02 00:26

Well done, I found the gameplay rather entertaining. I especially liked how you had different themes and actual different visuals and takes on the theme song for each planet. Overall this felt packed with content for a Ludum Dare game, which is a big achievement and something that makes it stand out.

Not dying when plunging into the planet core struck me as a bit odd. There's some minor floatiness to the jump trajectory, little collision bugs at times, without a drop-shadow sometimes it was hard to estimate where you land. This kind of little polishing stuff you could consider if you decide to take it further, in which there is great potential to do so.

Got nothing that hasn't already been said before really. Nice visuals, good music, entertaining gameplay; it's a very solid entry, that's for sure. Great job!

infestient 2017-05-02 00:46

Thank you all for the comments! I'm taken aback by all the great things you are saying. Though initially a game jam game, we will most definitely be continuing to work on this game as a team and have plans to ultimately release something that is polished. As many of you have pointed out, there are plenty of bugs and missing features that will be addressed as well as additional features such as multiplayer modes. Again, we can't thank you enough for your comments and support. :)

Didn't end up fitting an exclamation mark, so here it is: ! Love the atmosphere.

fouralex 2017-05-02 15:41

Hi! What an interesting game! An so complex game in 72 hours it is fantastic! :astonished: A fun experience with a very good melody which sounds nice with all the sonorities! It's close to perfection for such a short development time! The low-poly graphic style is very impressive! I have only one thing to sugest you : it's to do a little story wich explain why we are on these planets and why do I have to collect some pieces! Overall a very surprising game (in good) and a nice experience for me! (Yes, there are some minor bugs but that is normal I think)

breno-m 2017-05-02 17:10

This is the best jam game I played so far in this event! The team made a fantastic game. 70 resources collected. I think a stylized font for the score's text would fit the mood better. And the menu buttons could have a clickable area instead of a precise area. Also, the escape pod could be more detailed.

swiftillusion 2017-05-02 17:22

Immediately charming presentation, reminds me of 'grow home'/'grow up' in a really positive way, with a light but fun premise almost like an expanded mario party game.

|+ The visual style and overall character is great alongside the fun characters to meet too. |+ The diversity of how planets not only looked but how they broke apart added to the experience and kept it from feeling too repetitive, especially with the first impression of each new planet. |+ The movement felt fun/casual, which complimented the overall style/charm. I also never felt the need to reset the camera which helped keep the games pace moving smoothly.

|- The jump didn't always feel responsive, like it needed more time to establish you were grounded? Not a massive deal in comparison to the rest but it did break me out of the experience.

An awesome first go at Ludum Dare. It doesn't pull me in in a way that has me wanting to play it again but I absolutely loved my experience with it and not every game needs replay value, awesome job all of you :)!

burgee 2017-05-02 21:09

I spent more time on this than most of the other games I played. At first I was like 'hey this doesn't really get any harder' and then I got to the 4th or 5th planet and sh*t got real.

I really like the graphics style and the simplicity of the gameplay. I kind of wish that planets would become unstable more quickly meaning you get the warning and have less time to get to the pad. Maybe they do later on, I didn't finish the entire game admittedly.

I really like it though!

diptoman 2017-05-02 21:42

This is very awesome, with some charming presentation! My two complaints would be that the UI was out of the screen in windowed mode, and the jumping was a bit weird/floaty? But otherwise, amazing work for 3 days! (Also, might wanna make the interact button obvious. My first two playthroughs were running around, then suddenly it says get to launch pad, and failing at that, finding nothing else to do, quitting the game, coming here to vent, then realizing there's a F interact. :P )

avon 2017-05-03 00:51

I'm impressed by the amount of planets in this game, you created a lot of content for a jam. The physics could be a bit clunky at times, but it was still fun to play. Having to escape the planet on a timer reminded me of playing Descent ages ago. You made a lot of cool models, the game looks great, and the music fit well to the mood. Great job.

aleal-dev 2017-05-03 17:05

Ey! Nice game! I scored 93 resources. Not bad, isn't it? Haha. Maybe a bit more variety and a small polishment on the controls (i think jump not always work as intended...) will make it a very fun game!

My game also takes place in a small 3D world. Try it if you want! ^^

bitofgold 2017-05-06 12:58

Very nice game, one of my favourites! The second lava-volcano planet looks fantastic. I really liked the music, the low-poly graphics, everything! You really did a good job! (I gave many stars)

cyberstarlight 2017-05-07 21:34

Was really fun to play good work! A few things that could have helped: A required amount to finish a level, some items with higher value, maybe health that goes down when touching lave/getting hit by meteors?

I like how you made the menu, it looks good. great work on the models and particles.

Anyway, I enjoyed it, and it was really well made, aside from the edge issues from time to time, great entry!

mox 2017-05-10 05:27

@cyberstarlight Thanks for the suggestions and critique. I'm so glad you liked the menu. Did you notice there's a character that runs around on the planet when you move with the controller? I did that partially because I thought it was cool, and mostly because we made the menu last and I didn't want to touch (and possibly break) a bunch of core systems.

2017-05-10 14:21

Lovely graphics! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mxyrl5Tjmjc

dink-dunk 2017-05-10 18:27

Hey all, Thanks for all the lovely comments! We've noted everything that you have given us feedback on, it's much appreciated! Anyone commenting further, what would you love to see from this in a full release?

mcjammydodger 2017-05-11 15:16

When I first played this game I couldn't get past the first level because I thought I had to return to the ship to take off. I then actually read the instructions on this page and had a lot of fun getting through all the levels. I managed to obtain 85 resources.

I noticed I kept getting caught on the edges of rocks etc, which was rather frustrating, but other than that the game play was great! I also liked the visuals and sounds too. Good job!

jeb 2017-05-12 16:52

Good to see that you guys could create such a nice game together! Playing your game feels very nice. The qraphics look very well done and harmonize well with the audio. I like the individual look of the levels. Maybe you could add more variance to the gameplay in future releases.

I don't know if I just missed it, but for a full release I suggest the game to have some more UI Elements like a Game Over Screen or ways to pause, restart and quit the game from within the game. I think that would round up the already good game a little.

Good luck to you guys and I hope the jam inspired you as a team :)

zorg 2017-05-14 14:57

I like the idea of the planets falling apart. And your game looks very polished for a jam game. I thought i had to rush to get the valueable pickups before leaving the destroyed planets and was a tiny bit disappointed it's just for a score. It would be cool to have a use for those resources, but i guess that's beyond the scope of a jam game. Instead of the yellow "escape shard" i think it would be cool to jump out of the drill ship, collect the resources and board the ship again as it went through the whole planet and emerges on the other side. I had the impression to miss some NPC dialogue. They were pretty short so i did not bother listening to them in the later levels. Overall i liked it, good job!

ellian 2017-05-15 22:33

It took me a minute, but I was quickly hooked; the different planets, the way the planet breaks off as you drill into it... The character design (and the art in general) is REALLY GOOD too!

I wish there was a little more to do (which, obviously, is not relevant in a game jam setup) so the gameplay doesn't feel repetitive, but it's a very, very solid entry! Congrats~

diknows 2017-05-17 10:49

Really nice 3D gaphics for a LD game! I liked the music and what you had to do. Only critics is that I got stuck A LOT: Well...that is polishing right there.

Solid game, thanks for the entry!

dink-dunk 2017-05-17 23:14

Nice game! It was very easy to the point of asking myself if I could lose only to lose constantly on the last level. Other than the difficulty spike it was a very relaxing game.

lavwa 2017-05-20 01:25

What an awesome game ! Perfect graphics, great music :) Very nice entry, again great work, always amazed to find such quality in a LD !
