LD38 — A Small World

Troll Castle by berkano 2017-05-01T19:08:42Z

So I went into this thinking I was just gonna try to get through it (just being honest) and I can't believe how much fun I had. Also I can't believe I never considered the idea of an RTS where the objective is just to build one building. If you try to read the tutorial text all at once it's overwhelming so I read a few lines and just jumped into the game. Eventually there is an alert like, "don't forget to click on things to learn" (or something like that) which because I didn't read the tutorial I didn't know I could do so that was a great reminder. As I went I just kept hitting h and reading a few lines and then figuring things out so I actually didn't have a problem with it. The trolls were hilarious. I just really liked this game. Only problem was I had no idea what encountering a monster did but that's fine. Good luck!

Grall Axy by LooksLikeSomething 2017-05-01T18:39:17Z

Definitely solid game. Just needs more. I know the time constraints can be hard.

Global Disaster by Jamesy012 2017-05-02T19:43:05Z

Score 59550 PC. I like the mechanic that the meteors destroyed each other so you could get two at once. I don't understand why you decided to make the planet blurry. Good job overall.

Your Planet: Too Big by Scriptorum 2017-05-01T23:06:08Z

Got stuck on level 3 and then I checked the comments and saw that you wrote that "Turns out, one liners in stilted alienspeak isn’t the best way to communicate a rule set" and then I realized that those one liners were actually hints. When I re-read it I actually did get the subtle hint I needed to click fast which made the physics smash the correct circles together instead of a millimeter apart. I actual prefer comedy and subtle hints and thought it was awesome, I just wish I had know that's what it was. Great game, great idea.

ANTIVIRUS by KappaIX 2017-05-01T18:29:43Z

This is fantastic. I hit retry more than any other game so far :D. I really liked how intuitive the staging of the levels were, I would think "oh its getting easier that's weird" and then it immediately kicking it up 10 notches. I would think "wow doing this in one go is hard, I have one hit left" and I immediately would get a life drop in the next area. Just great all around.

SittingDucks by Iak 2017-05-01T12:29:50Z

Fun idea, definitely hilarious. Couple things. Some kind of icon to indicate when an egg was laid so I knew when to stand up would have been great. Also the rotation made me a little dizzy. I would prefer to have the character move around the planet rather than the whole screen rotate. Especially when it gets faster. Also the sound effects hurt my ears. Music was great but I ended up just muting because of the jump sound.

Mallows World Adventure by geeitsomelaldy 2017-05-01T20:25:14Z

Loved the flags and the adventure game feel. Thoroughly enjoyed this game.

The Shrinkifier by pfeyffer 2017-05-01T22:41:06Z

Lost 3 planets in a row. Restarted and then it just started giving me abductions and then I lost more planets. I'm sorry but I still have no idea how to play. Graphics a cute. Idea seems insteresting/solid.

Food Fight by Scornz 2017-05-01T12:20:25Z

Gameplay is solid and graphics are good. I also really liked the idea of clearing the table and dodging the new food that comes down.

The Taker by Epicsoft 2017-05-02T00:14:14Z

I like the idea, especially for LD because learning resource management for so many different RTS games/styles can be hard and you just got rid of that by having no cost for the units. Unfortunately the game did not run well for me. I couldn't get the camera to move forward to a castle and then the FPS tanked hard.

Tribal Tension (Twitch) by SaraJS 2017-05-02T00:29:26Z

Dude I think you seriously have something here. Companies have been spending millions trying to figure out how to make a great twitch game where users can interact and you did it in 48. You should have two modes. The one you have so that every streamer can just leave their stream running for their fans. Then a second mode that is like streamer verses the chat. Where the streamer can spawn things for the chat to fight so instead of chat versus each other the streamer can log on for 1-2 hours and be them versus the chat. There could even be another mode that spawns things based on donations or subscriptions or follows. SO much potential. I think there are going to be a lot of people trying to copy thing.

Lab 493 by Remicy 2017-05-03T10:48:17Z

I feel like a lot of time was spent on music and art, which came out great, but I am personally more interested in what kind of game play people can come up with in time limit. While I applaud your efforts all the game does is look around and then you click a germ. Not sure why there is a timer since I am guessing the germs are randomized so what skill am I being timed against? The idea of looked down into a microscope was executed better here than any other game of this style I have played for LD38 but there is just nothing to do.

Polar Protector by AlexHoratio 2017-05-01T16:44:16Z

Thoroughly enjoyed it. I was hoping people would do the running around the world style of game. I also love games that involve switching weapons (elements in this case) to defeat different enemies. Good concept and execution.

SnowGlobe Warrior by Ethan Allwood 2017-05-14T22:26:43Z

Seems like you put a lot of time into the visuals and the game play suffered a bit. Great concept though. I think was of the issues with what was available is that I could dodge things by moving. Not sure why I would use the dodge command. Especially since using it replaced attacking and the wave seems to spawn more as time goes on so choosing to dodge just means you end up with more enemies to deal with. You might as well just attack.

Small Planet Tycoon by Querk 2017-05-01T22:35:37Z

Took me a bit to get the hang of it. At first I just blew up my planet 3 times in a row lol. Once I got the hang of it things started to flow quite easy. X for destroying things would probably be better as a bull dozer or something. Anyway, great job!

rovR by morrilet 2017-05-01T16:33:32Z

Great idea, and hilarious too. My only complaint is similar to what someone else put. A lot of times I felt like the best way was to just try and skip some of the level and get to the end the easiest way. Maybe you were going for that. ;D My favorite level was the Uranus level with the 6 kind of right next to each other. I felt like on that level when I messed up I actually could see it and understand what I did wrong. Overall great job, music fit, graphics were perfect.

LD38 - Big Dreams by Iron Leonem 2017-05-02T09:07:10Z

It was nice to have jumping that easily cleared the height I needed to get to. I also enjoyed the nerf weapon. Great job.

A World In Her Eye by OrbitalBlueprint 2017-05-01T12:04:24Z

Definitely hit the mark on mood and story. I got stuck quite early though. Maybe my adventure game skills are bad :(

Bug Attack! by Gurbx 2017-05-01T17:41:31Z

I really enjoyed it. Made it to level 21 and felt like I was so strong and pumping out warlocks like crazy so I just stopped. Could have played for a while lol. Its tough to do a tower defense RTS for ludum dare but you hit it right on. Only thing I would change is to zoom in the graphics a bit. I would have like the warriors to play more of a roll as a tank so I had a reason to build and control them later on.

Microbe Mash by LeFayGames 2017-05-01T17:18:06Z

Great idea for a game mechanic Love the animation how they just float around and then bump into each other. I liked everything except I felt like I never got it. I must have played 10-12 levels ish (didn't count) but every time I just clicked things until something worked. The shapes part made sense to me but I never understand the colors.

The Little World by JayTord 2017-05-01T13:17:00Z

I agree with others. The primary thing the game is lacking is visual feedback. That being said I see a lot of potential for various game mechanics here. I like that the planet spins on it own and you don't have to for example worry about spinning and looking for something through a camera control because that would have been awful. Instead you just focus on the tasks at hand and your priorities which felt good.

Strangeness by philomory 2017-05-02T09:18:28Z

Reminds me of adventures of Lolo! Great job.

Lunar Depot 38 by eevee 2017-05-03T12:16:07Z

I like the cohesiveness of the game. Game play was solid although I would probably have made the bullet speed faster. It would make the game easier but its generally more rewarding for player input to match actions in game. When you slow down shooting speed it makes a higher chance of missing and thus can be frustrating. However I understand upgrades can help compensate for this and in a short amount of time its hard to create other gameplay mechanics so instead you opted to just make enemies fast, I can appreciate that. Music, art, theme, everything is great here.

Stop CO2 by cremmy 2017-05-02T15:08:17Z

I like the idea and I love tower defense games. Art looks good. Definitely looks like there is proper resource management and mazing mechanics which are key to TD games. However I could not understand how to power towers. I read the instructions several times and I could very quickly get my power up to half or higher and then it would disappear even with like only 4 manned towers on the board and I would get an alert I was out of power and then 30 guys would land and eventually one tower would shoot one. Maybe I'm an idiot but I just couldn't get it to work.

World Collector by TomBishopSPG 2017-05-01T16:16:43Z

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I will be checking out your games. I did add to the description for anyone having trouble. I really enjoyed making this game so I hope everyone enjoys playing it :D

Skylets by Dink_Dunk 2017-05-01T23:38:47Z

Great idea for a 3D platformer. Love the idea that the planet breaks apart and its a risk/reward of keep jumping around or sit on the escape pod for safety. 2 things. If you make WASD the movement then make the action keys on the right side of the keyboard. For example jump could be UP instead of space. I basically played one handed which wasn't great. Secondly I would enable some kind of way to escape early. After dying a couple times I decided to not risk it and just sit on the platform at the beginning of the countdown and then I ended up just sitting there.

Business Value: Going Agile by Matthew Traylor 2017-12-08T02:35:39Z

I prefer to play with two hands.

Soul Matter by Nehvis 2017-12-06T12:14:37Z

I enjoyed it. The "failed interaction" animation is way too long. Speed that up and also make it so that I could keep walking while it's showing me I failed would have been nice.

Green Chefs and Pancakes by MrAssassin 2017-12-05T15:46:28Z

No way to tell how far up the pancake will flip. Hilarious though. 5 in humor for sure.
