Nice game ~ good work! The graphics were especially awesome.

I like the voxel graphics! The single button gameplay took a while to get used to, but was interesting. I also like the menu blur effect. There's an issue with the shadows making weird patterns on lit surfaces, I think this might be caused by having a value for "bias" that's too low.

rixium 2017-12-05 19:16

Awesome graphics, I disappeared at one point of a play through, not sure where I went (perhaps tapping too much, and going off screen was the problem as I guess blocks hadn't instantiated yet, and I fell, or something. I love that it's a simple one button game. It would be pretty cool for mobile, Unity has a mobile export, I think (?). I would consider it, now most of the game is complete.

Nice entry! This would be a great mobile game!

videojames 2017-12-05 21:09

Neat visuals and I like the "boop" jump sound xD It would be cool if you could go faster than the camera though!

sir-magic 2017-12-05 21:12

Thanks for all the feedback so far guys! I am considering creating a mobile version in the future so all feedback is welcome :)

Nice game that is easy to get into. I like the graphics but the audio is a little jarring on my ears, especially the one that jump boosts you.

iojioji 2017-12-05 22:31

I had the tiniest bit of trouble at the very start of the game because I was all "But how do I move D:" but after like 5 seconds I was already bullying skeletons and grabbing coins! About the movement, I found a bit annoying that hitting blocks when jumping halts your horizontal movement, making it a bit awkward to move if you're facing a roofed wall. Other than that, nice aesthetics and I really like that you can see the level generate with the shadows it cast. You can jump yourself out of the map though. I think this would be a good mobile game

sir-magic 2017-12-05 22:37

@lojioji Thankyou so much for your feedback! I was wondering how to stop the player from constantly hitting their head against the top blocks but your comment just gave me the idea of making the material slippery so that the player can keep moving horizontally, despite hitting their head.

neontropics 2017-12-06 21:35

Wow, this was really good. The idea is great and makes for engaging gameplay - you get a lot of mileage out of one button! There's a surprising amount of tactics in how to plan your jumps.

The shadows displaying a map of what's coming above is genius as well.

The difficulty scaling is a bit too slow for me - I would happily increase this by 2x at least. Maybe a button to speed it up if you're inpatient? (a la Tetris Attacks or something like that). Would love to play a post LD game sometime in the future, a nice music theme and maybe some powerups and stuff would be amazing!

Reminds me of an upside-down Downwell.

Nice voxel graphics, i defeinetly liked the jump boost animation and sound, that was a sick shockwave XD overall a very funny game, you kept to the theme, which is good, i had a hard time figuring out how to play it in the beginning, i was trying to WASD or arrow keys it, and later figured it was because of how you jumped, but i like the game, great job!

awerar 2017-12-06 22:27

This really seems like finished and full fleshed game. You had good ambitions that were not incredibly high which results in this awesome almost mobile esque game. I especially love the art stye, the voxels. If there's one thing to complain at it would be that there isn't to much of a difficulty curve. On all other regards, love it!

dwulff 2017-12-06 22:29

This is really fun, I could totally seeing this being an awesome mobile game! The voxel models look good and everything seems to have a nice polish to it. All it needs is some different environments and some cool music!

jfraser314 2017-12-06 22:32

Great graphics, fun idea. I would have liked to see it ramp up in difficulty a little bit.

chronosv2 2017-12-06 22:37

This is a pretty interesting idea. The one-button gameplay was simple to pick up, and the difficulty scaled fairly nicely. If I had one complaint to leverage it's that the camera doesn't speed up to catch you if you go upward too fast. I ran into a few situations where I jumped on a barely onscreen arrow and went soaring into the sky only for my game to end not long after because I guess I fell on spikes that I had no way of knowing existed.

The graphics are wonderful, and even on my onboard-graphics'd laptop the game looked great and played just as well. The sound effects were simple but did their job well, too.

As for the theme, I'm not sure if I missed the point or if the game didn't really follow it. Regardless of that, though, the game was fun and ultimately that's what matters most.

I liked this game alot, it was very satisfying to climb up the tower and crush enemies and collect coins. My only beef was with the collisions, they seemed very off sometimes, and sometimes they would make you flip around and other times they wouldn't. Either way nice entry, and I really like the graphics style too!

phi 2017-12-08 19:27

After a bit of tumbling around, the controls became intuitive quite quickly! Great implementation of a one-button concept. The graphics are great and create a certain "roomy" atmosphere, and I found that the sounds which feel rather flat and low-res sort of don't complement this very well. I love the general aesthetic though, especially the shockwave effect and the falling-over-like-a-brick.

A problem I ran into pretty quickly was that I spent most of the time further up than the screen is high, and I had to rely on the shadow to get an idea of where I was (don't know if that's an intended feature, but I think it's actually pretty great). It's easy to stay up just by hitting space fast enough, but it's hard to control where to go. Was adaptive scrolling speed something you considered (especially because it's an infinitely high tower)?

Overall, a great, solid entry! Great job!

I had the same issue as rixium, where I disappeared at one point.

The sheer look of this proves you have some skills. The fact that everything has a shadow version in the background is wild. So, the look and aesthetic appeal of it is great. However, I wish you'd put more of those skills to use in the gameplay.

peachtreeoath 2017-12-11 06:20

Nice, elegant gameplay. I actually had the exact same thought as @neontropics, with Tetris Attack as the first game that popped into my head as well. I would assume it took a decent amount of testing to get all your sections to feel right, especially once you had your full layout setup so kudos on that. I kinda liked that you went with the 3d objects even though it's a very 2d game. Main reason being I've probably seen more 2d games with this gameplay so it's a nice change of pace.
