LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

ALL Your Cats by pcmaster 2017-12-08T15:30:38Z

This game *whisker*ed me away to a world of pain. *Cat* they all get along? Taking care of so many of them can lead to anyone's mental health *droppings* down. Experiencing all of this is making me want to *jump the fence* and become a dog person. I need to lie down, I'm not *feeding* so good. Oh, I'm just *kitten* around. The game is *cat-tastic* and I give the graphics nine out of *nine lives*. Ok, I'll get out right *meow*.

Save the Hats by Gruhh 2017-12-06T23:56:43Z

Beginning the game was rough for me, I had to die many times to learn the best winning strategy that I can come up with.

My strategy was wait at the second level for them to fall down. This is because the jumping enemy movement was more predictable on the top level than the bottom level. I kill as many as I can and if any of them escape to the bottom level, I finish them after the timer runs out.

Levels do feel too slow-paced, and I think everything could be faster: the player, the hats, and the enemies. Maybe not right away, but over time. I wish the boomerang also flew a longer distance. I feel like I have to get too close for my comfort.

This is just my personal thoughts about the game. I like the pixel art and your own hat twist on the Ludum Dare theme. Game was charming and a great entry for this jam.

Monolith by Sir Magic 2017-12-05T22:01:47Z

Nice game that is easy to get into. I like the graphics but the audio is a little jarring on my ears, especially the one that jump boosts you.

Always a fan of your games. It was very enjoyable.

I had to fullscreen the game though, to avoid scrolling the page up or down.

Money Dungeon by Mathiouza 2017-12-05T22:33:22Z

Something about the game really got me into it. Took me a lot of tries but I managed to beat it! I find the game very cute and the bosses were a nice touch.

I found a bug where a dollar sign enemy would randomly fly past the screen during some transitions into the next room in level 2.

Speed Date Shuffle by NotExplosive 2017-12-09T07:16:25Z

What a classy game. The restaurant, the dates, and the music all work together to provide a cozy dating experience for players.

I like to prepare my cards beforehand so that when it's my turn to talk, I can quickly play them. Being able to swap cards more quickly would be very helpful.

The concept of the game was well executed and it has the right amount of stress like in a real date.

I find that all the sliding box levels tested my skills the most, especially level 10.

(Spoilers)

Level 10, I knew what to do but executing it was a struggle. Took me the most tries.

Level 11 was my favorite puzzle. Good use of all the mechanics and environment, like using the wall to stop your momentum before you drop down onto the boxes.

The last level was the easiest sliding box level, but introduces a new mechanic with the box that I haven't seen before. I solved the level by first sliding the box, then hiding in the hole and bouncing the box up as it slides over me.

Overall, the puzzles in this game were great and I had fun playing it.

Captain Alexia by ludonaut 2017-12-06T06:35:31Z

Loving how powerful the weapons were. There were like a zillion missiles!

I did struggle a little bit with spotting the enemy bullets when I had so many of my own on the screen.

The momentum was too slow at first, and I was itching for more enemies with more hp.

Then a whole legion of enemies came outta nowhere, and it was a fun blast to play.

Somni by Timestop 2017-12-05T04:31:21Z

Good music and art, although I got the game crash bug too (after I get 2 solar candy, interacting with the chest or the picture will crash the game every time).

Don't Be Rash by Cosmic Adventure Squad 2017-12-08T11:04:22Z

Alright, time to see how many puns I can make. *cracks neck*

You commented on my game so I'm commenting back. You *scratch my back so I'll scratch yours*.

I have to *hand* it to you, you guys know how to make a quick game *dexterously*.

And oh boy, the difficulty did not leave me *empty-handed*, I had to *claw* my way to victory.

*Scratch that*, I actually couldn't win. Not with both *hands tied behind my back*.

This game was just so highly polished- *nail polished!*

I hope you're *itching to get back* into the next Ludum Dare jam because this game was quite the *handful.*

*Itch.io* must be really glad you guys chose them for uploading, am I right?

Ok, I'll get out now.

Scavenger by Stefan Richings 2017-12-10T08:18:51Z

Some things I want to point out:

* Mouse sensitivity was a little too high for the settings I'm used to.

* Adding a small reticle in the center of the screen would be helpful.

* Holding left shift plays the running animation with the gun but it doesn't actually move the player faster.

* Ammo was a little hard to spot even with the small light coming out of it.

The map was awesome, the atmosphere and lighting really sells the game as a alien-infested space station horror experience.

Caffeinated Alien by Justin Toyo 2017-12-05T04:41:22Z

Nice use of coffee as the theme for the jam. I don't usually drink coffee but this is exactly what happens when I do. No bugs can stand in my way.

Crowd Control by PolyHatSteve 2017-12-09T04:18:55Z

Found some minor bugs, so just want to let you know if you didn't know already: * Bazooka audio didn't play sometimes when I killed an assassin. * I can right click, then quickly left click enemies to either banish or kill them without any repercussions.

It took me many tries, but once I got the hang of it, I got immersed into the flow of the game.

However, I was only able to beat easy mode. But it felt rewarding when I beat it, so high difficulty doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing.

I would prefer more colors, but I understand it might take away from the game because it might make it harder for the enemies to blend into the crowd if they stand out too much.

So in conclusion, this game has good game flow, is challenging but rewarding, and is fun to play.

Get to the CHOPPA! by Girts Kesteris 2017-12-05T22:11:47Z

Funniest game I've played in Ludum Dare 40 so far. Thanks for making this.

@justin-toyo I fixed the bug, thanks for the heads up.

@strega Thanks for the review! Yes, there is an ending. There are 16 cats in total.

Keyboard Cats by sungk 2017-12-10T17:01:43Z

@falak Thanks for the review! To answer your question, there's no losing screen that restarts or stops the game. The ending just tells you if you pet the cats enough when you finish the essay.
