Really nice game, I like the idea of monsters who fear light, and how you used it to conceive your puzzles.

I hope you will continue working on the game after the jam, here are some ideas of features that could be great in the game: - ability to change the orientation of lights - lights with an adjustable delay of activation - different types of lights, for example red / green / blue and you must combine them to have a powerful white light

etc

Good luck and thanks for this game ! ;)

Interesting concept for a game, though it definitely needs some fleshing out. With some more variety put in like a temporary flashlight, platforms to jump on, or differently behaving enemies, this could prove for an intriguing game.

I love the monsters, idea is nice. It gives some room for new mechanics and refining.

I have a love/hate situation with the fact that when you drop the battery and it goes into an always dark area, you're basically fucked. It felt frustrating when it happened but it made the rest of the game all the more tense. Great game! :)

Hi, can you make a macOS build?

nusan 2017-08-04 19:09

Thanks for the reminder, @zenmumbler, I just uploaded a mac and a linux build. Let me know if there is issues or if they works for you.

Intense and creepy atmosphere for a nice puzzle game with an interesting main gameplay. I like these tiny reptilian monsters - how they run using a unpredictable way - their strange behavior afraids me all along the game. I can look them a long time. The gloabal aesthetic is clearly rudimentar and it is a good thing. It helps us to focus on the goal. A fun experience - which could be improved with other features. No sounds? Well done. One of my favorites. Highly rated - as usual with all your projects ++

Pretty intense game! The idea is great and the mechanics work very well. The graphics, though basic, give the game a very creepy feel, especially the little monsters. In the third level I just dropped the batteries on the ground and borderline panicked when the second one was not where I left it (really cool mechanic! and thankfully I found it in a lit corner). With some audio this could easily have been top notch in terms of atmosphere, but it's still very good. Really enjoyed this one, good job!

@nusan Really great idea!

I liked:

The Gameplay: I got this weird War of the Worlds Dark Harry Potter Dungeon vibe that I loved. I genuinely felt tense and a little scared when playing because of the gameplay. It is very hard to invoke this kind of emotion, especially in a game jam. Well done!

The Art: Your art may not have been the highest quality models, but the lighting, the creepy monsters, and the level design were great. I knew from the second I started that I did not want those monsters coming after me, and the art for the batteries and cranks made the goal self-explanatory.

I didn't like:

Lack of Music/Sound: The mood of the game was great as is, but if you added some ominous background music and sound effects for the flickering lights, the mood would have been perfect.

Overall, you made a fantastic scary game, and I think you will place well!

Great game, great level design! If it had sound, it would certainly be the best experience I've had so far in this LD. Good job!

randomphantom 2017-08-14 15:27

That was a really great idea! Pretty scary stuff those shadow lurkers, and cranking the batteries is quite suspenseful. Would be great with some music and sound. Didn't realize that you could recharge those light switches midway so that lead to a lot of retries. The final level was a bit confusing though, where it wasn't clear what the switches activated, but it seemed that I made it through anyway. Great entry and one of the best I've seen so far!

Very good. The shadow lurkers really added intensity to the game.

I like it, the monsters idea was good, while playing it felt new but when i think about it its quite generic (hating light) but you made it feel new and that is hard to do. good job(:

thecodefactory 2017-08-17 22:21

Good ambience. The 3D graphics were really good too. Nice work!

huvaakoodia 2017-08-18 07:13

Brilliant idea! With audio there could be some very tense horror moments indeed. The graphics are clean, but they do look like default shapes in places. Some simple texturing and coloring would help there.

@nyri0 and @shinmera already came up with great ideas. What I'd like to see specifically is bigger, more complex, even maze-like levels. Exploring a space and managing limited light resources with nasties hiding in every shadow would be a dread filled experience.

Good work!

I like all the interactions with the batteries, having to pick them up and recharge them. This makes for some interesting level design (althoug I do have to admit I did not always see clearly where I had to go, well in the end I did and was able to finish the game ), all the more tense because of the shadow lurkers. Although I was quite frustrated with the controls as the character seems to move in steps and does not stop immediately when i release the key.

Great work ! =)
