Nicely done! The game does run well on Linux under Wine, btw, but a web build would probably make this accessible to more players.
Very small bug: In the first level, round 3, it says [< ^ <] on the top of the screen, but the rules are actually [< ^ >] I'm also having difficulty controlling the character in the last (endless loop) level, not sure if it's intentional or not, but fits the theme either way
What I think could be improved: at first I didn't understand whether I had failed or succeeded. It becomes clear quickly, but more optical feedback would have been nice in addition to the comment line.
I also learned to dislike the screen showing the rules before the level starts: more than once I clicked to make it go away faster and accidentally dashed to my death as the level then actually began. It also feels like a punishment to sit through the start screen on every round, which again is probably intentional, but if it wasn't for that screen I wouldn't have pressed F1. Overall I think the game would be understandable without it.
Again, very good job, this is a well-produced entry!
A fantastic game and great idea. It is really fun to play, although it could be hard to do the two easy steps everytime after failing the hard one. But I think that is part of the loop. :)

Actually I don't understand why I jump at the first level and I get "loop" message. Maybe I don't understand rules a bit, but visual and sounds are great. I think it's a great project

Very, very, very good. Addictive too. Those are some charming smooth animations. The meaning of meta-game.

The animations look good but I have no idea how to play this game lol
Oh man I really enjoyed that a lot. Your character animation was fun. The puzzles and platforming felt challenging but always achievable. the restarts started to grate on me towards the end, but I was pretty chuffed when I finally finished the great.
Overall an excellent entry great stuff!
@adil @mkraw Thanks for the feedback guys! just for clarification (and this probably will help others too), the game is based on a typical "programming loop". Meaning, "while" you perform the actions the game is giving to you the levels will loop. Hope this helps and thank you again!!
Very cool and entertaining game! Although, as others have said, the prescreen to the levels becomes grating after a while. It turns gameplay frustrating, in my opinion. Also, I didn't realize that you could doublejump until it was prohibited by a rule? I don't know if I got blinded there for a second and didn't get the memo, but maybe it'd need to be made more apparent.
Other than that yeah! Fun and addictive puzzle-platformer game! The graphics are nice and the sound design is very pleasing! Good job!
@udo Thank you for your feedback!! to be 100% honest I was thinking about adding a prompt to skip that screen but I did end forgetting it, the loop absorbed me hahaha. Thank you again! <3

Thats a great game, really hit the theme. Great graphics, very good platformer overall. Nice job!
This is a great entry! A really good use of the theme that lead to some really interesting gameplay, well done! The visuals were nice and the instructions were clear. I like how each 'loop' progressively adds more challenge and progressively increases in difficulty.
My only complaint is that the player doesn't move with the platforms in one of the later loops - I found it really jarring. It made it really difficult because I expected the player to move with the platform.
Minor issue aside, this is a fantastic entry that scores high is all areas! One of the most creative interpretations of the theme I've played so far, well done!

loved the visuals and the interpretation of the theme! Honestly had no clue how to play, but still enjoyed the visuals and the animations
cool game and good realized idea. nice character design :)

Great game. A slight improvment would be to not going back to the first attempts after failing the 2nd or 3rd one. Nice smooth game anyway !! :robot:
The visuals are very nice. I like how it becomes harder with more conditions

The concept is great and the art and music are really nice. But it's very frustrating to have to redo the succeded level.
I don't really understand the way the loop theme works. Isn't it supposed to be while ((not A) and (not B) and (not C)) or maybe while (1){ if (A or B or C) break} instead of while (A or B or C) {continue}? It's not anchored very deeply mechanically anyway, it's just a puzzle platformer with additional conditions and curly braces in the level.
I also don't understand why you don't use standard Unity controls and allow arrows plus WASD (W to jump), but that was only a minor annoyance. A far bigger annoyance is that I clicked to dismiss the intro screen once, and failed the no dashing rule, and once pressed space to dismiss and failed the jumping rule.
As previously said by others, the prompt screens feel a bit slow after a few try. Other than that, the game looks sleek, the controls are fluid and I had a good few chuckles with the jokes and the atmosphere. Will definitely try to finish it a bit later ! Nice job to you all !
Such an interesting idea! A great way to reuse some already made levels. Art is simple and cute, I like it. Gameplay is fun. Sounds and music are nice. It would be cool if you could move with the platforms though. I'd also like to not to redo already completed levels. But other than that I enjoyed it I would totally play it if it was a full fledged game. Very well done.

Very good idea. When I played for the first time, I didn't think that several conditions were "or".

Great concept !
But: -In the begining of the level, I didn't understand the fact we have to reach the second bracket... I thought I need to grab the cherry. And that took me 3 minutes to understand... -The game is too harsh already on the second level... You should have done a lot of level, in order to increase the difficulty in the mean time the player understand how long is the dash, how react the movement, jump ect. I honestly quit the game on second level because it's to hard. -It's frustrating to restart at the begining of the level, and not of the loop where we are. In the 2nd level, we I died a lot of time on 2nd loop, and have to do all over again the first loop (which is too easy, plus there's no need to make me do it over and over again since I know the solution)
Overall, it's nice tho, Music is good, graph is good, and it's a fun concept!
@noytroo the cherry was indeed a devilish idea from our 3D Artist hahaha. Thanks for all the feedback provided, much appreciated!!
Also @everyone thank you guys for your feedback + comments!!! <3
This is the best game I have played so far for sure. If this does not get a good rating I do not know what will. I whis you all the luck and I hope to see more of your games in the future!
The game looks and feels great but the conditions were hard to understand and the game was quite punishing - both in terms of difficulty curve and in forcing me to re-watch the rules screen - which often takes longer to get through than the playing the level itself! Still, really nice work overall :)
2020-10-06 21:17
This was so fun! Feels really smooth and you get the hang of it pretty quickly. I really liked the running jelly-like animation and the overall cheekiness of the game (especially the popping text at the end of levels). My only complaint is that it's too short, although I admit I used F1 for the level with enemies and "don't touch the red" rule :D

Amazing animation, colour palette, character design and ui style! The loop restart was a bit of a pain especially as at first I didn't even realise it had happened. But the controls felt good to play with, and it was funny watching the arms flail around.

Cool and innovative idea! We've also discussed programming loops with our team, but haven't figured out a way to make them into a game :)
The game is hard to grok. I guess a tutorial or some hints at the beginning could improve the learning curve.
That's one hell of a great entry. Absolutely loved the mechanics, use of the theme, graphics, color choice, sound design. Will follow carefully what you'll do next 😎
vv
The art style and music are pretty cool! I like it and when play more I understand what you want to tell the player. Great job!
Love the minimalist approach - you pulled off the aesthetic and gameplay really well! My only gripe is I wish I didn't have to redo any previous levels, I would rather just start from where I left off. I can look past this though because the game is so charming

Your style was born to be liked by me! Really love the simplicity and delivery of this game. The prompt screen is a bit slow and the winning condition was a bit unclear at first but still liked it a lot!
Very nice, Loved playing it, smooth animations and challengin tasks? sign me up

I took a while to figure out I could double jump. But after that everything flowed really well! Graphics and audio are great and the idea and implementation is superb! <3
Very original idea! The artstyle is also really nice and satisfying.
I had to skip the level with the enemies (with the 3rd condition was pretty tough), shame on me :(
But nice entry overall, liked it a lot :D
Nice entry; I first of all love the concept and art. The concept (pass level by escaping the while loop conditions) is so simple but so fun! I'm a sucker for 'programming' games so... Wow. The art was simple but fantastic- color scheme was warm and on point, animations were smooth and polished. I love the little kaoemoji face on the enemies. Some bugs? At one point, I could stand on the leftmost end of the collider even though my character was visibly not on the collider image. Maybe decrease the width of the colliders? Also, jumping from platform to platform on the while[alive] levels were kind of tedious because I had to try multiple times before I could land. It could also be my platforming incompetence..
Overall, fantastic and innovative entry :) Rooting for you!
This was really well done and it was such a cute take on while loops  The graphics are especially nice and I think it's very innovative
@dudum-lare @cakemonitor @xandra @hengen @eldogg @purrseus @croxel-studios @emiliabea @angela-he Thank you so much for your feedback and kind comments!! <3 for sure, after the Ludum has ended, I will update the build with some improvements, including the ability to skip the "while screen" + being able to move with the platforms.
Thanks again for your time!

Nice concept and puzzle designs! The art is really clean and music and sounds feel good. I felt the deaths were a bit harsh, having to start all the rules over >_<.
This is such a great idea! I really enjoyed this.
Yooo, what a refreshing concept and interpretation of the theme! Animations, artstyle and music were really on point too! Only would have wished for a intro skip function, or to not replay the introduction when you die. After failing a level too many times, it kinda gets on your nerves :D
What a cool Game. The idea is pretty great and still have a lot of potential. The visuals are awesome and everything totally fit together. The soundeffects are also very nice touch to the game.
My only critics are, that I think it would feel better if you dont have to repeat the whole level, instead just repeat the current loop.
Good Job in general. Well Done

It was annoying to redo the whole level after one Missstep.
Very nice! It was also quite hard

Love the concept and pretty fun too. The restart from level 3 or 2 to 1 is a bit tedious though.
Very cool idea and execution! I would have liked it better not having to redo the whole loop and rewatch all the rules after failing though. Platforming felt a bit janky sometimes (e.g. collision detection with edges seemed to be off sometimes) but overall still very good.
No complaint about graphics and audio though. I especially liked the representation of the rules through icons.
A very creative and polished entry, amazing job!

I love the principle of interdictions. I like the fact that the platforms don't make us move, it's unusual and therefore it's funny and interesting!
On the other hand, maybe it's detail, but I would like that if from the first level I fulfill the objectives of level 2 and 3 for example, it directly validates these levels, otherwise I just do the same thing again.
This brings me to the most important point for me: it's far too frustrating that when you lose you go back to the level you were at before! If only it was justified, but it's not! Please, when the player has fought for something, don't just take it away from him !!! For pity's sake! It's HORRIBLE! I know how to pass the pattern, but if I don't get it right the first time and then I'm so grounded! It's so sadistic...
And also, please, make it so that we can pass the ruler instruction screen faster, because when we start 10x again, (100x!) I'm so excited to be able to pass this screen that almost ends up making fun of me!
And the edge of the platforms that collide from underneath... the edge of the platforms... THE +°%µ+°µ%µ%+µ%+µ% EDGE OF THE PLATFORMS !? Why is it colliding from underneath when the middle doesn't collide ? aaaaaaaaahhhhh I almost pulled my hair out because of this platform edge in the spikes level!!!
In addition to the rules, I really liked the atmosphere, the music, the graphics, everything works well together. I love it!
On the other hand... I LOVED THE END !!! I finished the game without using "F1", so I crapped like crazy. I think it would be really better not to restart the whole level, it doesn't make any sense, please do an update, it's too bad you're going to scare away so many players! Because the end is really worth the detour! :D I love this kind of thing in video games, it makes me think clearly about the game "DATA WING" on mobile, I strongly advise you to play it if you don't know it. And also it reminds me a bit of the "game" we did with my friends for this Jam :smirk: , I'll let you go and test it if you feel like it.
Thanks again and Bravo !

Graphics, sounds and mood are here. Your game is innovative and fun to play. Good work!
I dont know why, but this game reminds me some practices on codingame.com
Very well done...was a blast! Perhaps the character could move with the platforms? Also, dying and starting over was a bit challenging...not bad, but difficult.
I loved the mechanics and the game feel! As others already pointed out, the screen between and dying and being able to play again is too slow after some trys. Other than that, good job!
PS: I can't see how anyone can pass the last condition of the 4th screen D: xD

2020-10-14 21:38
I really loved the graphics on this, looks absolutely brilliant.
Mechanics are really cool, but the difficulty can be a bit punishing at times, particularly when you have to start a level all over again rather than retrying the set of rules. The skipping helps though!
All in all it holds together really well
Spikes level is quite hard.
@strega @doctormozart @moritz-jaeger @deathstorm @jin9310 @dizzy @tunahead @zackary-bazzle @neithr @captainproton42 @lut1n @superunknown @island-jam-2-group-3 @jhax @polymorph thank you all for your feedback!! we will be upadting the game after the Jam with some quality of life improvements. The game feeling too hard seems to be a common issue so we are thinking on, instead of redoing all the loop conditions again after diying, just remove one condition from the counter as a mini "punishment" or simply not removing any conditions at all. We will see!
@matlab thank you for your elaborated feedback!!! as pointed, definitively gonna update the game after the Jam so it feels a bit more approachable and polished. Also I'm really glad you liked the ending!

Hopefully this will motivate you even more: I insist on the fact that I don't see the point of removing a condition when you lose : it's neither funny in terms of gameplay/flow, nor interesting in terms of context/game universe, so for me it's just not worth it. Once that's removed (and added the ability to restart instantly) I think the game will become much more encouraging and punchy, it will make you want to improve yourself to face challenges, it's definitely something that should please die&retry platformers fans like Super Meat Boy, Celeste, VVVVVVV players!

2020-10-15 09:24
It's all been said before but yeah just go back to the beginning of the current level if you lose, not back to the beginning of the level two levels ago. That feels really punishing. Beautiful game and cute concept - I like the programming theme.
After reading some of the other comments, I would like to elaborate on my comment. Starting over when dying is too harsh, but I am not against it being difficult. Gives it an old school feel and I like it. I like the idea of building on the conditions for the same level and I think moving the user backwards is still a good mechanic...its just taking them all the way back on one death is too harsh. Maybe only take them back one step, and perhaps only take them back when they have died twice or something. Also, when you update the game, perhaps you could start with some easier levels...this would help keep the game fun, but you could also keep it difficult when the user gets to the more difficult levels. Again, great game and it is for sure worth polishing and expanding post jam.
@mediyaz Thank you for your feedback!! <3
@superunknown @matlab thanks guys for adding more context and details to your feedback, definitively gonna adjust that part of the game. I don't want to just remove the sense of punishment but I agree that moving the player backwards everytime he/she fails is too much. I'm thinking a fair thing to do would be moving the user back to the rule he/she actually broke, so if the player ignores the second rule, then the game will make him/her redo the level FROM the second rule (and the same with the third and the first rule). Hope something like this hits a middle ground!
Thank you again for your time!
I really liked the idea of this one but I think it was a bit too punishing. If you have something which you need to try a lot of times the opening screen with the while statement shouldn't take seconds. Also I think if you die it should restart the same while not start the level all over again , these two things made it more frustrating than necessary. The trext with the IDE highlighting colors which were also in the level colors were a nice touch. The music was good for this type of game. Overall I was super excited about the idea but became a bit frustrated when actually playing the game. If you remove some of that frustration and expand the type of puzzles a bit I think it would be a nice game.
Wow! Just wow! Amazing game team! The game, the graphics, the audio... are awesome! The theme fits 100%. Maybe is a little challenging and hard, that can go to frustration, but despite that, I think this game reaches the perfection. Congrats team!

Nicely polished game! I very much liked the aesthetics of it, the visuals and the audio worked well together. The idea is not something i've seen before, so that was nice as well! Others already mentioned the same pain points I encountered - the unskippable intro on each level and the fact that upon death it restarts to the first set of the current level, rather than whatever you were on. Great submission!
Very good game. Only problem I had is that f1 on browser brings up the help tab, so that got annoying. Also I would like to rate you in the music category kind sir
Perhaps the best game I've seen this jam! You had a completely original topic, complemented by a lovely artstyle. At first, I didn't understand the goal was the highlighted bracket, since I thought I died when I ran into it, and I didn't realise there was a double jump feature. The ending was particularly interesting, but I won't spoil it on anyone reading this. Great entry!
Loved your idea! It's creative and nicely done, I just wish there was a gamemode that I didn't have to restart everytime I died (alot ): )
@erikiene @franciszek-pyrc @robonaut121 @karenfarah This may sound repetitive but thank you for your feedback and kind comments!! seriously, much appreciated <3
the theme of the game is really good to find, I think and the music is "chill" it is relaxing as an atmosphere. on the other hand to lose a little less hahah. good game ! green thumb

I love the idea! At the beginning of the loop, the game feels like a regular platformer, but at the end, it seems a puzzle game! Great job! I like the art too, it's very nice!
Game has pretty good graphics and sound effects! I really liked this idea, Great Job !

A good game, like the idea behind it, and this is nicely done. Kudos to you. I wish controls were different, for example allowing the player to jump too if up arrow key is used, also would loved if the initial screen that shows the level loop could be skipped, as it takes a lot of time each time you die.
Lovely game.. like the concept.. was stuck on first level for some time.. but then I was finally able to beat it .. Love the character

Interesting concept, we were thinking of something with coding loop in the beginning too, but then did go into another direction. But interesting take to actually NOT do the coded instructions ...
I really like this platformer, the idea of tasks is great as well as visuals, music and difficulty curve. Great job.
