LD42 — Running out of space

Salvation* by Riccardo Sioni 2018-08-18T17:48:17Z

Stellar mood on this one. The first couple times I played it, I ran blithely ahead until I got hit by a sinner. After that, I hung back a bit and just took in the view and contemplated my inevitable fate. After a while, I tried to make it around the most dense sinner areas, but salvation always seemed too far away. Contemplative, and visually very interesting. Thanks for making this.

Wild Warehouse by CptFinn 2018-08-18T17:38:33Z

I found this game weirdly satisfying. There's something kind of magical about having a little bit of extra time at the end of each day to just tidy up my warehouse a little bit in preparation for tomorrow. I liked how the player develops organization strategies over time to be efficient with the time that they have. I'm also a big fan of the mini 8-bit sprites. Loved it.

That was loads of fun. The music on the higher waves really ramped up the tension. Nicely done people. :D

Edgy Fantasy Battle Deluxe by Shess 2018-08-18T17:12:07Z

That was a ton of fun. I was grinning like an idiot from start to finish. Give your artist a pat on the back. Thanks for making a great game folks.

Scale Escape by Evan Polekoff 2018-08-15T05:12:58Z

Really cool mechanic. Super innovative, and works perfectly with the theme. I had a lot of fun making a bridge out of a domino to get to the chair. The game definitely becomes a lot easier as you start to understand the mechanics, though the collisions did cause me some grief. My car and I did end up outside the map a few times, but this is pretty expected given Unity probably doesn't handle things scaling through each other very well.

Overall, a lovely little game. Thanks for making this.

[REDUCE:REUSE] by Brandon Diaz 2018-08-18T17:26:41Z

I feel like you did a really good job with the theme here. I really felt more constrained and challenged as space began to run out. Trying to balance maximum sorting efficiency while still keeping paths between dropoff points unblocked creates a surprising amount of gameplay depth. Well made, with a strong uniform style to boot. Congrats!

I love the polish and a e s t h e t i c. Very satisfying sounds and gameplay. My favourite moments came from ending up in bad spots and managing to work my way out of danger with careful aim. Great game, and works with the theme very well. Nice job.

Prog-Jet vs Guardians by Bismark 2018-08-22T00:56:47Z

Gives me serious nostalgia. Lots of fun, enjoyed the speed powerup most of all. Nice work!

Brilliant. Fantastic aesthetic, great game feel. Perfect example of delivering a mechanic and demonstrating its potential. You managed to make an impressive number of levels to boot. I'm super impressed. This is probably my favourite LD42 entry so far.

*N*X warriors by Stepan Shabalin 2018-08-13T00:10:03Z

Looks neat, give me a heads up when the builds are back up!

Adware Attack by AdonisDevs 2018-08-13T00:21:17Z

Neat, that was actually a lot more fun than I expected fighting ads would be. I got a laugh from the "local grills".

On a side note, there's something implicitly very funny about running a Windows installer that says "Are you sure you want to install 'Adware Attack'". You can practically *hear* Windows Defender throwing up its hands and going home.

Great game. I really like the style and mood. It feels super coherent, and it feels like you really executed on the vision you had. I can imagine this being developed into a larger game.

Screen Space Defender by Balance686 2018-08-18T17:20:02Z

I really like the opening menu and the sound design. It really does a good job of creating a sense of setting and bestows the game with a feeling of polish.

PhoneBreaker by Daniel Rincon 2018-08-18T16:59:40Z

Geez, my friends are vicious. Neat little game, and very well polished. If you decide to expand it, I'd totally dig a highscore system or powerups.

Quibble Quarrel by TJ101010 2018-08-15T05:19:00Z

Tons of fun, very addictive. Great game, nicely done guys.

Space Ninja by BlueBlu 2018-08-22T00:48:11Z

Played around a bit and had some fun, managed to get to the second level. There's a good game in here!

Get Off My Boat, You! by Eric Kulbiej 2018-08-13T01:24:41Z

I am "experienced with beard". Love it.

Space To Breathe by kirb 2018-08-22T04:21:28Z

Made it! Definitely a big fan of the limited ammunition and the struggle to balance aiming with breathing. Atmosphere and mood were great. Reminded me of LISA, or the laboratory in Undertale. Really cool game. Very original mechanic, and well executed.

Memory Leak by cr0w 2018-08-13T00:58:47Z

@adonisdevs Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, I should totally have made the dog a short fluffy dog so I could hide his legs and make him less spooky.

I had more idea for memories to add to the list... but I forgot. :dog:

Memory Leak by cr0w 2018-08-13T01:17:28Z

@jay-elbourne I strongly agree. I originally planned to mix in gameplay-altering memories, from challenges like "FORGET LEFT FROM RIGHT" which would reverse the "A" and "D" keys, to things that would make platforming more difficult or force you to take alternate routes.

Originally, the climax of the game was to be a choice between "FORGET HOW TO JUMP" and "FORGET ABOUT OLEG". If you forgot how to jump, you wouldn't be able to rescue him. If you forgot about him, you wouldn't recognize him when you got to him. Only the one branch made it in, which isn't dependent on the player's decisions.

I'm considering continuing this one. I feel like with a more developed story and less frantic gameplay, balancing timed on-the-fly character decisions like this could be interesting.

Thanks for the feedback.

The Legend of Cactus by Astericon 2018-08-22T01:08:01Z

Binding of Isaac meets Bomberman with a great thematically-appropriate twist. I liked that you encourage the player to be deliberate about their bombs by limiting the available space. I'll echo other feedback around cranking up the move speed. Had a lot of fun, and I dig the enemy designs.

JumpArround by Leave 2018-08-12T23:14:41Z

Nice take on the theme, I dig it. Looks great too.

SHTACKITT by infiniteautomaton 2018-08-20T00:40:40Z

Reminds me very much of packing for moving. I like the sense of mastery you get as you start to develop better ways of packing the container quickly and effectively (start with large pieces, etc). The controls are intuitive, and the game is fun to play. Nice work!
