Awe man forgot my keycode.

adonisdevs 2018-08-13 00:51

That dog gave me the chills! Fluid animations on the character though. I like the idea, but I reached the end of the questions too quickly. That, or the character has a lot of childhood memories to forget. The character's artwork is nice, too :)

@adonisdevs Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, I should totally have made the dog a short fluffy dog so I could hide his legs and make him less spooky.

I had more idea for memories to add to the list... but I forgot. :dog:

Very interesting. I wish I would have had a game over or reset back home at some point if I ran out of memory. It would make it more important to select memory and find the dog. Also if you continue this game and have more time to make the memory decisions mean something would be a very cool game. We only had 48 hours so that is hard to do in that limited time but if you had certain paths that you could not take because you deleted the memory would be a very cool game idea.

Great game! Visuals and animations are beautiful. Some questions gave me the chills D:

@jay-elbourne I strongly agree. I originally planned to mix in gameplay-altering memories, from challenges like "FORGET LEFT FROM RIGHT" which would reverse the "A" and "D" keys, to things that would make platforming more difficult or force you to take alternate routes.

Originally, the climax of the game was to be a choice between "FORGET HOW TO JUMP" and "FORGET ABOUT OLEG". If you forgot how to jump, you wouldn't be able to rescue him. If you forgot about him, you wouldn't recognize him when you got to him. Only the one branch made it in, which isn't dependent on the player's decisions.

I'm considering continuing this one. I feel like with a more developed story and less frantic gameplay, balancing timed on-the-fly character decisions like this could be interesting.

Thanks for the feedback.

@cr0w You had a Memory Leak?

memel06 2018-08-13 09:09

Awesome graphic! The "choose what to forgot" idea was really clever. I forgot everything about the little Oleg ahahah (also forgot the room pin.) Nice soundtrack also

Good luck for your entry!

I have no idea why im writing here. What was i doing? Nice job making your own music.

astralore 2018-08-18 21:42

I felt like this was a really clever interpretation of the theme! The bit where you were choosing what to forget was pretty great too. I feel like the gameplay ended up feeling more frustrating than intended, though. :sweat_drops: I didn't like waiting for the blue screen to go away every time I forgot to forget haha. Maybe make the blue screen take a little less time?

I'm also really glad it didn't have a bad ending, which I expected it would...!! :smiley_cat:

Good job with the graphics and the animation. The music you made also conveyed the mood well. The main improvement I'd suggest is make the memory mechanic fit in better with the platforming. It felt to me like I was being asked to play two games at the same time, a platformer and a "press 1 when there's text on the screen" game. Playing two games at once can be fun, but for some reason it was mostly frustrating for me on this occasion.

Unique take on the theme! The graphics are nice and the character animation is superb. I dig the story aspect and the atmosphere the music created. I would like to see the losing memory mechanic have an impact on game play, maybe like disabling certain actions to make it harder. Also having that nag message pop up and halt gameplay if you don't push a number is a little frustrating. This is very impressive for the compo time frame - great job!

mr-madcat 2018-08-19 15:48

Pretty cool game.

I love how you feel the stress level rising as you have to platform and to manage, what you want to forget/remeber.

Well done.

smbe19 2018-08-21 12:31

The game looks really nice. I found it quite difficult to control the character. Also, the constant "you have to forget something" was really annoying and did not help the story much. But interesting idea.

lastleaf 2018-08-22 05:06

Interesting concept. It is a game with great innovocation. I enjoyed the story. Graphics and audio are also well made! About the gameplay, the blue screen appeared too often, having a nagetive experience. Overall it is still really nice!

karai17 2018-08-22 07:15

I don't quite understand what is happening in this game. :(

Thank you for sharing your game with me. I played it on my stream tonight at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames

I have rated your game, but all of my feedback was captured in the stream.

Damn.. that end screen. 10/10, would mood again. Amazing work and what's scary is that this was done for a compo.. Crazy nice graphics, fitting audio (only disliked the rough-on-ears landing sound), very good idea in terms of theme use and finally a very important message at the end. I would say how it's worth developing this further and if you do maybe make the choices matter more as now I just ended up choosing the "feels important" like 50 times without any consequence, but all of it has been said above. The only thing I'd add is the final jump is annoyingly too hard, but maybe it's just my bad platforming.. I'll say it again - **amazing** work! :thumbsup_tone1:
