LD36 — Ancient Technology

The Unreal Odyssey by cushycode 2016-09-01T22:10:00

I'm a bit late to the party, but I see your plans for the game. Can't agree on the tutorial since it is really interesting to understand these game mechanics by yourself.

More obstacles like storms (disorienting waves and inability to see the stars due to the clouds). Some fishing needs and crew animation - would be great as well. Nice submission.

PALEO by RIPPorkins 2016-08-31T19:38:00

Very nice game, cute graphics and quite well balanced. I wish i know about log hiding before playing because I've played through it peeping through the log and mostly on the top side of the map =)

Telegrapher by jackyjjc 2016-08-31T21:58:00

The plot is good.

Somehow I broke day 7, I just typed the last word of the previous day and then pressed space one more time (no word was given at this moment). Then I heard the message "click" but no message was shown, game is stuck now.

All Hail the Party!

Storehenge by Unept 2016-08-31T20:15:00

Nice pixel art. Could be a bit more challenging though =) try to paper-prototype next time, it's faster and easier to get new ideas this way.

When Aliens Are in the Desert by DarkGrisen 2016-08-30T22:19:00

Better to spend some score points on a block placement since it is possible to spam them in a row and then just remove all misplaced ones.

Nice concept anyway.

Pharaoh's Pyramid by actuallycameron 2016-08-30T07:49:00

A nice game. It's really fun to click around once you've got a hang of the process. Graphics are really smooth and clean too.

Petroglyph by Jonpul 2016-09-01T23:18:00

Oww, a UFO game, that's nice. Shield is good idea, but better to visualize it somehow (may be an semi-opaque sphere around the saucer?)

Good start.

I'm not saying it's aliens... by Boberro 2016-08-30T22:31:00

I like the holographic display but some camera control would be helpful too.
Nice concept!

Miky the Inuit by publicidadeba 2016-08-30T08:51:00

Hm, it seems I collected all the items x4 each (32 total) and nothing happened after this. Even inside the hut. (it was the hardest part - to find exactly your hut :D)

Very nice soundtrack, guys!

The Awakening of the Golem by DragonZBW (SparkLight Games) 2016-08-30T08:30:00

I loved the visuals. Music was also strangely fitting for the golem carnage. Very nice overall feeling of squishy humans.
What I didn't really expect is the fact golem is squishy as well. It certainly adds to the challenge, but it doesn't really feel fair. Tried to fill my laser meter for >20 attempts, then got it to 9 and touched a fireplace. Turns out they kill you - but how would I know about that?
Golem slowness and stopping for a punch, on contrary, feels fair and expected, so that's the good way to make a challenge.

A viking game by quentinus60 2016-08-31T22:15:00

~21 points. Pretty challenging to me but still fun. Nice start, keep making games.

Caveman In Time by Mine10blox 2016-09-01T23:40:00

Score: 3819
At this fast speed background is not so smooth and it tickles your eyes - not good (probably it is due to pygame).

A small warning before the spear appears - nice move.
Runners is a quite specific thing and some people simply don't like it. It requires only skill and there is no decision making process (jump or not jump, huh?).

But overall implementation feels complete.
Keep practicing and making games. Good start.

Caveman In Time by Mine10blox 2016-09-01T23:45:00

And yeah, this was the first game (out of like ~40) that made me laugh out loud because of the spear and head blown sprite. It was just hilarious. And this is a good sign, right?

Helepolis : Make It To the Siege by olkeencole 2016-08-30T08:02:00

Epic soundtrack! fits game well.
When you run over trees, you practically feel how they are crushed. Little rocks are unexpectedly bumpy though =)

Time to Travel (With the addition of Warfstache) by TheGamersVision 2016-08-30T02:00:00

Aztec always killing me! And items should have some description.
Nice pink mustaches tho :D

The Wheel by MrErdalUral 2016-09-01T23:10:00

Very consistent art and good game overall. I don't prefer runners personally on a PC, since it only appeals to the skill (so there is no take-a-decision process for a player). Just a bit fantasy - you could add stamina bar to break this mindless key spamming and make jump-or-hit choice more important. Some special abilities could stretch the gameplay a bit, e.g dashes, high jumps, powerups and may be some random platforms?

Just some thoughts.

Ancient Caverman by juanmontesinos 2016-08-31T20:09:00

Nice art and sounds, but I didn't quite get how to progress. Bullets are ending and enemies are not (

Ancient Contact by Volcanic Giraffe 2016-08-30T10:54:00

@jackyjjc, thank you for the comment!
Here are some helpful tips:
- try to use house parts as obstacles for units
- rolling rocks are very effective as well
- you can catch arrows/stones and use it as a weapon

Ancient Contact by Volcanic Giraffe 2016-08-30T14:32:00

@cushycode
Awww thank you. Sorry it didn't work.
Btw did you try to click on that big green button in the corner?

Ancient Contact by Volcanic Giraffe 2016-09-01T16:54:00

@cubotrox_toni
could you please share the browser console output?

Passage by Lesbroufe 2016-08-30T20:48:00

Very impressive style and art! Puzzles with gears looks interesting, but I get stuck on 3rd level :(

Stoneheart by raspofabs 2016-08-31T22:31:00

Great sfx and art. At first I didn't understand how to activate "revert" buttons. Tried enter, shift, ctrl, space, then I found 'x'. Soundtrack is pretty simple but so catchy.

Reflexum: The Path of Light by ALeal_Dev 2016-08-30T19:13:00

That square Egyptian looks very funny ) Nice graphics, and interesting idea for puzzle.
However I've got stuck on level 3, where box and pikes appear first time. I've tried to jump over peak handing box, tried to throw box inside pit, then jump to box, but failed to get out from pit... That is sad as I really like to see what is next puzzle about )

Ubuq by cubotrox_toni 2016-08-31T18:30:00

Game's quite hard, but fun to play. I like the idea of combining movement and rhythm-building the attack a lot. Art and music are very nice too.

RGBJam by npizzle1 2016-08-30T08:24:00

You can add some mixed colors, like magenta (when you you need to hit the both red and blue), cyan (blue and green), yellow (red and green). This will add some more depth to the gameplay, I think.

Mo'ai Dance Party by tweetzzzzz 2016-08-31T19:43:00

Raving Mo'ais yaay! Nice animations, very catchy tune!

Stones versus Blasters by SteampunkIslande 2016-08-30T21:53:00

Win and loose sound are the best :)
Camera control is a nice-to-have thing here I believe.

Ball Shui by teamBallShui 2016-09-01T22:54:00

A really good Crazy-machines reincarnation. Setting, sounds, art, music - all are so good so there is nothing to add. The game looks polished enough.

The only thing that bothers me is level design:
It is possible to complete the first level with just 1 platform used (put it near the emperor), the second with only 1 jumper (right angle) and the third one only with a rocket (put near the ball), the fourth with 3 jumpers only.

Great submission anyway.

SUNWARD by graebor 2016-09-02T20:42:00

This is really great work! Graphics, sounds, whole atmosphere is amazing. Control is very simple, and it is great idea that spear extinguishes fire.
Funny that first time playing I did not get that I need to bring the spirits to the circle, and I tried to save the world by hitting fire.

It would be nice to see more strange creatures from this world.
Thanks!

1984 by dvdking 2016-08-30T20:19:00

Nice graphics, and good weapons feel. If only a bit short =)

The Land of Ancient Technology by CartoonJenn 2016-08-31T21:38:00

At first I thought it would be a quest game, that fire starting and mystery. Nice start anyway!

By the way, music produces some crackling sounds in my audio system.

Land in the Void by 95jonpet 2016-08-30T01:51:00

A bit hard to me =( I'd suggest to make a hotkeys like 1, 2, 3 for crops, rain and blocks.

Sepulcrum by blackcode 2016-08-30T01:43:00

I see what you did there :D

A Robot named Rover by Hackingroelz 2016-08-30T21:19:00

Oh, I feel so dizzy now.
The third map has a hole so it is possible to move outside the map.

I'd recommend to improve camera control and tweak the difficulty a bit.

SmashSmith by Lukbebalduke 2016-08-31T21:31:00

For some reason I can't download a game. Any time I press Download - it just refreshes the page.

Generation 0xDEADBEEF by sftrabbit 2016-08-31T21:26:00

I'm really worried about the character now (character - you see what I did?). Great atmosphere.

4000 B.C. by tcarter 2016-08-30T01:40:00

I have the following error (Windows):
There should be '4000BC_Data' folder next to the executable.
Could you please update the submission?

4000 B.C. by tcarter 2016-09-01T21:35:00

@tcarter It works now. I wasn't logged into gmail - that's was the problem.

Well, this game deserves more love! All the ironic texts and voice recording - just amazing.

Game itself is a pretty simple scroller with some various weapons; and I'm thinking now would be better to make a quest or rpg-parody here?

What ideas did you guys try in term of a gameplay? I'm curious.

Place of Power by flazm 2016-08-31T20:57:00

Cool game. A bit grind-y, but the art and all the little things are making it totally worth playing. Great job!

Ancient Kingdoms by tGiant 2016-08-30T20:18:00

Once you aimed correctly - you can shoot again and again without any additional tweaks. May be windforce should affect the projectile somehow? So player would improve angle and force each turn.

Nice low-poly style!

Legend of the Psychedelic Skull by peejaygee 2016-08-30T20:22:00

Tried HTML5 version, but it did not work - I see only intro screen (with nice music!) but nothing happens then..

Aqueducts by KingSlizzard 2016-09-01T19:55:00

Not so many levels but this is a good start. Music fits the setting. Despite the fact some sound have a high pitch, I think.

Some auto adjustment would be helpful for aqueduct stacking, but still it requires some skill so it's fun.

And yeah, trees models are the best :)

A Decent Game With A Great Soundtrack by xWarZonex 2016-08-31T23:11:00

Almost broke my finger at level 3...
Song is great but I think it does not fit to the game setting. May be more 'ancient' elements?

Cataplague! by jgthespy 2016-08-30T20:33:00

Interesting idea and gameplay. A bit hard to play with trackpad, will try again with mouse.

Old Man's Sky by Geared Games 2016-08-30T21:04:00

I like the biomes, color style and that ground gradient.
Ship looks like a fly insect to me.

Dungeon of the Ancients by Multiplexor 2016-09-02T20:20:00

Very interesting light mechanics! Atmosphere is very mystical - those red flashing signs, flying light-afraid enemies. Difficulty is hard enough to make some challenge.
But that "multi-jump" (when I press space twice the hero jumps higher) is a bit confusing. I found it accidentally when get stuck on level 2 (with single jump you cannot jump from bottom to next floor). Maybe it shall be described somehow.

The Machine by jeremyfa 2016-08-31T22:52:00

prison.js - sounds promising. Some ambient sounds could help to complete the atmosphere and the narration.

Cave Tale by AinoraZ 2016-08-30T21:29:00

I didn't get the puzzle pieces reference (I mean, is it ancient?). But art is good.

The Switch - Worker by Ghen 2016-08-31T22:09:00

~532 points, I never thought operators job was that hard.

SDP - Save Da Princess by colozz 2016-08-31T21:45:00

Nice texts and references. Add sounds, some dodge/hit animations and this will be a complete game.

Unmapped by FiSilva 2016-08-31T23:17:00

I like the ability to climb houses and trees to expand the view. Color scheme is pretty neat.

Unmapped by FiSilva 2016-08-31T23:21:00

And it would be super useful to see the correct placement at the end. For instance, by moving up the camera above the center of the map, so player will see a bird's-eye view.

Back in My Days by Folztarg 2016-08-30T07:56:00

Cool graphics and music is very nice, but I'm not able to start the game - play button seems to be not working =(

Hippie Horde by Spinach_Chicken 2016-09-01T22:29:00

It looks simple but it's hard. I mean the rotating speed is a constant, but still challenging.
I agree on upgrades suggestion and may be more various hippies?

Btw tried to shoot the cloud multiple times :)

Something is Wrong with this Museum by Allthebees 2016-09-02T01:16:00

It's great we have games like this. Straight motivation for all of us and well made example.

Reminds me good ol' days with SMB and VVVVVV.

NothingNewOnTv by nicso 2016-08-30T20:43:00

I'm still trying to tie up videos, gameplay and music.
Its like a fruit ice cream with a smoked chicken and some red vine... it tastes so good, but you don't understand why and just can't explain.

Good job.

Very well done! Not sure I understood how food cooking works (# of fishes at left top - is it # of catched fishes or cooked ones or...?).

Rent for 30 seconds by Volcanic Giraffe 2016-12-13T00:43:00

Cool =) share your room screens, friends

Chrono Pugna by Marta Viader 2016-12-14T23:11:00

Also experienced exit tutorial button issue. Also Shift button triggres windows sticky key feature if you're trying to shoot rapidly.

I like the arts and backgrounds much. Rat sounds are good too :) I don't see any new gameplay here, only pew pew pvp, solo player or coop probably could fit even better here.

Thank you for the game!

BullyBully Classroom by My Sweet Whomp 2016-12-13T20:29:00

Amazing story! Was played till day 5 and really didn't want to stop, but there are more games to review... Will return back later and see what is in the end!

KILLOBIT by bitslap 2016-12-16T21:30:00

1812 seconds... well that's addictive.

AFK by efno 2016-12-14T21:52:00

Could not login (web version). I clicked on login/pass fields, then pressed buttons on my keyboard but nothing appeared in fields :(

keturi by mitkus 2016-12-15T21:58:00

Very nice! It is interesting to investigate how each weapon works. Not sure I understood how enemies differ each other. Good luck!

Room of Fear by Alexandr Lisnic 2016-12-16T20:16:00

It was quite fun to play until I've tried to spam some traps and it start lagging like literal hell =) That's more to the Unity than to you guys. Gameplay's interesting and traps add a nice variety to arena genre. I'd still add some kind of cooldown to them for balance sake.

PacTwist by Prospero 2016-12-14T22:11:00

I like the mechanics and overall gameplay. I think levels could be bigger, and also sometimes ghost appeared very close to coin.

Fisherman Bob's Happy Cabin by JoeYoshi 2016-12-13T15:39:00

It seems to hang right on the title screen =(
win7x64, tried windowed and fullscreen. Probably just my old vidyacard

AnUnwillingRoom by sichy 2016-12-13T20:08:00

It is interesting and difficult enough. I think it could be good played on tablets or phones.

Cat and Robot by Vadim Ivshin 2016-12-17T19:06:00

Very fun game! I like to read cat's comments. There is also challenge, so solution is not always obvious, which is important for puzzle games. Good luck!

A cats life by mrcone 2016-12-14T20:53:00

That's a well made game. I cannot say it's really fun because it's too damn close to the real life issues I used to have. But it's solid, nicely balanced, and these lo-res graphics/animations are quite good.

Triskaidekaphobia by Otso Turpeinen 2016-12-14T21:09:00

That was a nice take on theme, you've nailed the scary and troubling mood perfectly. The controls were a disappointment, sorry. Movement can't be aborted when queued, and slow step by step walking around becomes tedious even though it serves the narrative well.

Cloud Chaser by handoharken 2016-12-21T21:05:00

Very meditative and relaxing experience. Controls are quite satisfying once you get the hang of it. I felt a bit disoriented at the beginning, but was able to figure out the whole mail dropping business. A small guide would be nice.

TISIC IZIEB by Split82 2016-12-14T23:55:00

I know it's sokoban. But really really great implementation. You know that, don't you? :) Congrats!

General Room by jeroenwimmers 2016-12-15T08:08:00

Awesome style and super fun to play. Knocking the soldiers off the table was quite satisfying. I only wish drag and flick were binded on different keys. It adds to the mayhem, but feels a bit unfair.

Nightmares by Yami no tenshi 2016-12-18T18:55:00

I see big potential with this art style and atmosphere. I'd like to see more puzzle steps or other mechanics. Please keep working!
Thank you for the game.

Room Fight by NeverAutomatic 2016-12-14T22:18:00

Nice game! Not sure it is always generated passable - sometimes I do not meet any room with green pals and loose.
It would be very cool if we can "prepare" for attacking, i.e. setup our warriors positions for better defence and then move room. But anyway, good idea!

One Gogh by DMinsky 2016-12-14T22:41:00

It is great! Even I stopped at second room... Need to sleep a bit after LD before playing puzzles ) Good luck!

Diorama by Tater_hater 2016-12-16T00:02:00

Agree, the character should be made of paper or clay too.
My result is 350 seconds - does it sound like a speedrun? :) Thank you.

Gentleman's Darling by ziege 2016-12-15T21:26:00

Perfect pixelart, interesting gameplay. Good luck!

AirportSecurity by Luminar_ 2016-12-14T20:11:00

In web version click is performed not where my mouse is :(

The Legend of ROOMBA by limmmmm 2016-12-18T18:33:00

72! I like the fact that you can't turn the roomba until it hits something.

RoomOne by Geckoo1337 2016-12-14T22:41:00

I like the atmosphere. Pretty strong game and challenge.
I got almost all stars (including that was on the top of pendulum) but stuck inside the box under the spawn. I know is solvable, but bit hardcore to me.
Thanks for the game!

Shootemupper by smagee 2016-12-15T00:03:00

I downloaded the repo, opened bin/Release and tried to execute Ludum Dare 37.exe. That it showed error - could not find libgcc_s_sjlj-1.dll. (while I can see this file under the Release folder). I'm using Win10 x64. Any suggestions here? Thanks.

Correct Color by gogo199432 2016-12-18T19:21:00

It was quite interesting experience except to the fact that I'm not sure I did all the things right. Thank you for the game!

Room by R3igZyr 2016-12-14T23:32:00

204 seconds! First run took like 500~ due to blue platforms and a bit confusing controls. It was fun to play and fall off again and again and again... I like the level design and the way it switches.

I'd recommend to work better on color scheme and make the grid less sharp (it's pure black lines). Good start and thanks for the game!

DISK by Kuality Games 2016-12-18T18:19:00

I'd like to see some sort of trail to follow the exact disc trajectory. And more effective hits with a full charge (now it seems dmg is the same as slow speed). It was fun anyway.
Thank you for the game!

Sleep Well by vini60 2016-12-14T22:30:00

Very cool!
As an idea: there could be some noisy regions on floor (like water, or beaten glass) so when you out of flashlight battery you have a chance to understand where enemy is by sound.

iZbushka by ploy 2016-12-13T15:36:00

Baba Yaga strikes again! Nice interpretation, you should've included theme category in the judging.
Boss battle was neatly balanced as well. Just wish the game was a bit longer.

One room, one date, one pig by Wolar 2016-12-14T21:48:00

Great game! All is good - music, art, sounds. It is very interesting exploring those rooms, easy to forget that you need preparing for date :) Good luck!

Blubje by Decentsauce 2016-12-14T21:10:00

Very good puzzle. Not so easy, has what to think about. Music also fits ideally.

Cave Explorer by alexander0153 2016-12-16T19:37:00

Nice art feeling, shame you didn't include graphics category. Great level generation too. I was scoring it mostly as a roguelike/adventure foundation, so I'm ok with the content amount. Minimap and some sounds would be great(it's usually worth to neglect some graphics polishing to add at least very minimal sound effects, at least in LD). Keep up the good job.

The Exterminator by tukisboolukis 2016-12-16T10:10:00

It's hard to see the spiders with this color scheme, but it was interesting to play. Text was unreadable so I couldn't see how much money I have.

I think there should be some walls placed so you can get cover.
Thank you for the game.

Super Crash Box by Drury 2016-12-13T16:39:00

You've got a nice drive with a relatively simple idea, congrats. It was really fun to play, sound, jumpy boxes, controls, it all seems really solid.
Game area is cut left and right on my 4:3 screen though, even on windowed.

Death Dash by kepons 2016-12-16T20:42:00

04:33... man, my SMB skills are getting rusty.
I liked your theme interpetation a lot, and controls were super polished. Neat simplistic graphics too.

Don't Stop Me by breno 2016-12-15T23:42:00

Wow, it was hard to play since the AI, it seems, knows how to kill the hero. I like the sounds and style.
Also I found a small exploit that allows you to win in easy way. Was surprized to see the whole rocket in the end :D

Thank you for the game!

Your first room by Naca 2016-12-18T18:43:00

Gameplay is pretty simple, played till the end. And I'm not sure about bubble sounds. But good start anyway.

Artis@n by Dia6lo 2016-12-14T22:04:00

Very like idea of things combination, and I felt myself happy guessing which combination planned for stage :) Good luck!

Tripoly by WeaverDeveloper 2016-12-16T19:09:00

It was super fun to play. I've spend good part of those 15 minutes trying to snipe enemy fighters with torpedoes - very rewarding feel. Level geometry was a bit confusing, but I appreciate how it gives you more FOV than your usual flat space. Nice job.

Garden Chamber by guckstift 2016-12-14T20:42:00

Nice mood, and great variety of plants. The game started to lag after a bit of playing, sadly.

cubica woo by image/31 2016-12-16T20:31:00

Music is awesome, and title screen looks nice, but the game itself is a bit disappointing. What are the rules? what are my choices? what should I do and avoid, and why it could be fun? LD is about making a complete game, so I suggest you to prototype more such games and see for yourself which ones are fun, and only then you hook your (awesome) pixel art and music.

Rooms'r'us by Myko 2016-12-16T00:22:00

At first I thought this is the exactly the idea we've implemented. But I see it's different. I love the combinations and the art overal (especially The Creation of Adam). It would be better to have more logic in clients generation, some of them even don't like doors!

Thank you for the game.

Graveyard Cleaning Shift by salah 2016-12-16T20:20:00

Lol'd at arrows rotating together with you =) nice little game.

Paradoxical by green2onion 2016-12-16T10:49:00

This game deserves more reviews!
Very nice concept and level design.
The puzzle is not that difficult, but I can fill the atmosphere. Please keep working on this project.

Oh, and I like the size (3.6 GB) of this game too. :)
Thank you!
