Very nice game! I really really like the art! The graphics are one of the best i have seen so far (within the Ludum Dare entrys). Great job!

Gameplay is good, the movement feels a bit sloppy. The constant screen shake gets annoying after some time.

Hi, nice game and congratulations ! Simple mechanics that still offered a decent amount of challenge. We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description. (you can already find several games from the jam there)

I like the graphic, it is just wonderful! It makes game even more good to play :)

Good job on the graphics!

I had fun playing, although at some point I found it a bit too easy, until I ran in to a wave of rocks I couldn't jump over, then my game quickly ended, just short of 1100 points.
I had a lot of fun, and I kinda liked the take on the theme!
Keep up the good work!

Highscore: 245

The little men were funny. Love the physics and art style. Great game.

Loving the game so far. Everything's spot on. Especially the tone used in the nipples. So innocent... By the way, if you manage to put enough distance between yourself and the wheel, you'll see that the shake is not at all constant, but a well placed indicator and a clever way, imo, to build up the tension.

and püre... innocent and püre...

That's a very fun game! Basic, one mechanic and fun :) My score was 1153, is that good? haha
Graphics were kind of blurred on my machine though, not sure why. Here's a screenshot: http://take.ms/3nc9n

Big fun here. I can see this game doing very well in an app store. Great job.

This game is amazing fun. Nice job guys.

This little naked sprite is so cute ^^

mrerdalural 2016-08-31 23:14

@RafaSKB did you play it on fantastic quality setting? I know that happens when you play it on a lower graphics setting.

kawzar 2016-09-01 00:53

It's really fun! and i like the idea too, i think you can make a grat thing from this. Also the graphics are really nice

spinach_chicken 2016-09-01 01:18

The game didn't work on my mac... tried everything in the description. Still, even though I wasn't able to play it I can still say that these are incredible graphics. Great job!

heugamer 2016-09-01 02:33

Mmmm the game didn't work for me. The start button was overlapping with the title, even with Fantastic Settings on.

However, from first glance the art looks nice :)

In this type of games crisp controls are paramount. Sadly, here, the jumping is not crisp. Also a problem, I am not sure how the people who scored higher than me did, but personally I never jumped, so it's a game of hold right, tap (guy, little rock) or double tap (big rock) and just hope the rng don't give you too many big rocks in a row.

It feels like with different rocks, guys that jump at you and can chase you, free movement, jumping and an axe to swing, there must be ways to have richer interactions (though possibly not in 72h! Maybe explore things further in a post-jam version?)

I liked though that the hit box of the axe is tiny, because it gives a good feeling when you swing the axe with good enough timing to break the rock or stun the guy without slowing down.

@Spinach - Unfortunately we could not test the game on mac. But some of my friends were able to play it.

@HeuGamer - did you play it on a 16:9 aspect ratio?

@Rico The Jammer - Thanks for the criticism I will note them for a post-jam verstion.

Good idea, nice pixel art graphics, interesting gameplay and a lot of fun, Cool Game :D
ps. sorry for my bad English

volcanicgiraffe 2016-09-01 23:10

Very consistent art and good game overall. I don't prefer runners personally on a PC, since it only appeals to the skill (so there is no take-a-decision process for a player). Just a bit fantasy - you could add stamina bar to break this mindless key spamming and make jump-or-hit choice more important. Some special abilities could stretch the gameplay a bit, e.g dashes, high jumps, powerups and may be some random platforms?

Just some thoughts.

rafaskb 2016-09-02 00:12

@MrErdalUral You're right, I didn't see the "Fantastic" setting note in the description and went with the default one, which was "Fastest". It's kind of weird Unity messes up with the texture filtering like that though.

I will play again, this time with the proper settings! :)

rfgpfeiffer 2016-09-05 12:24

Does turning around and hitting the guys ever benefit you?

mrerdalural 2016-09-06 08:24

@blubberquark it can in some cases where you are about to die. Wheel slows down when it has to go through objects since it has to break the object first.

iseeicy 2016-09-07 00:17

This was neat. I feel like the jumping could be tweaked to feel a bit better, and audio for the stone would have been nice. Otherwise, I enjoyed it.

Also: High-score of 560!

Trying to run your game on Linux gives me:

./TheWheel.x86: error while loading shared libraries: libXcursor.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have libxcursor and libxcursor-dev installed.
