I initially was confused about the keyboard selection buttons, but interesting idea.

Loved the mood ;)

Background music is good but gets a bit annoying during the game. The concept is nice and the art style is pretty cool.
Great job!

Soooo, the overall is pretty good. I personally found that graphics (even you didn't create the background) with musics are really nice together ! It creates a really really good mood ! Your 3D models isn't so bad for a first time. But I find that texts in green are a bit difficult to read. For the gameplay, I needed 2/3 games to well understand how to play but that's not a problem at all because you can chain games really fast.

I don't practice Kendo, but it seems to be quite cool
The bad point is that there's nothing in addition to the main goal of the game. I mean it would be so nice if they were things to destabilize you while focusing on timings.

Good job ;)

PS : Like the Japanese text on the left window

Really cool! Even though it is very simple it manages to emulate the feel of swordfighting really well.

One of the nice surprises of LD37. Nice game here, creative gameplay. Congrats on it.

I like the games with quick time events! Good idea.

diplodino 2016-12-17 20:43

Cool game, simple and effective. The overall atmosphere is neat, and I like the animations of the master ! Nice job :)

In the beginning, I was really confused, but I appreciated the game!

the controls are a bit difficult to follow

mrnyarlathotep 2016-12-18 13:56

I liked this idea a lot, and if you wanted to expand on it I could see how it would end up as a sort of rhythm action sword fighting game.

I think it would be better for players if you used some presentation from other "rhythm action" games for timing rather than just colour changes - for example scrolling icons to show what inputs are coming up, and to show timing when the icon is over the input icon - this would also let you do complex 'combo' inputs by slightly offsetting the timing on each input, but still be predictable

Like the idea but think the key combinations should be more central to the screen, I couldn't look what the sword guy was doing because I was concentrating on the keys. Nice music and graphics.

Nice idea to mix the wasd keys and arrows keys. It's not easy at the beginning when you have 4 keys to press at the same time.
Nice entry ;)

I would suggest some camera movements to make the game more interesting.

Nice work. Two days to learn to make 3D characters seems a hard challenge!

zener 2016-12-30 14:27

Simple and fun, loved the gfx and the music

erikiene 2017-01-01 13:29

Great idea and graphics!

As mentioned previously the game could do with some added mechanics which variate the gameplay itself, which could get boring after a while, but for a jam entry, it's awesome!

rubensoleao 2017-01-01 19:48

I would like to see faster "combos" and more responsive animation with more changes if you miss or hit

yuigoto 2017-01-02 09:24

Initially, I was kinda confused about controls, but once I got it, it was pretty fun and challenging to play! :) You really got the right mood for the game, and I had my share of fun trying to beat the high score! Nice take on the theme too! :P

My only note about the game would be some of the japanese text. It adds a nice touch to the game, for real, but the "Parried" text I'm pretty sure spells "Parade". :)

Overall, great entry! :D
