Wow! That is hard to get the hang of. Pretty interesting! By the way, the WebGL worked fine for me, no FPS drops.

xxdoombox 2017-04-26 01:21

great idea! the recoil mechanic is a brilliant idea. and using the circle map with enemies all around you is a smart way to encourage the player use the mechanic. i tried to continue turning and shooting so that i both attacked all enemies and stayed on the map, but i still spent most of the time falling off of the map. i see a lot of potential and with some tweaking i think it would feel even better. some level design and physics tweaking would be nice. obviously this was a game jam though, so needing tweaking is to be expected. i like what you have though, good work!

banana-man 2017-04-26 02:06

@xxdoombox thanks for the feedback! Will try tweaking aspects to the mechanics including how the rotation is performed!

@move127 Thank you for letting me know! It's a bit of a struggle at the beginning :)

Unfortunately WebGL doesn't work too well for me but thankfully there is a downloadable version! The game was difficult to get the hang of and I didn't ever get even remotely good at it (maybe the controls could use more refinement?) but I love physics based games like this! Good job!

arcticmattekar 2017-04-28 11:06

I think I started to get the hang of the controls, but the constant rotation unfortunately started to give me motion sickness :( I think the mechanic is intriguing though, but maybe not with a third person camera?

banana-man 2017-04-28 17:25

@articmattekar Shouldn't be any constant rotation. Perhaps your mouse wasn't centered on screen?

Good graphics, great music and great idea, very addictive, and terribly difficult, good job and great game (sorry for my bad english)

Cool game! I like the idea, it sounds good, and it controls well. One thing I will say is that it should maybe be made more obvious that you've lost a life when your health bar depletes all the way.

banana-man 2017-05-02 01:32

@jasperarmstrong Thanks for the feedback!

Interesting idea! :) I like that your primary mode of traversal is also tied with your attack button. It was kind of difficult to get the hang of at first, but once I started consciously using the right click, I was able to rack up 97 kills on my best run!

One thing I would note is the fact that it's kind of difficult to strategize when the enemies are coming from all directions. Where I would position myself would usually just be coincidental based on what direction I was shooting at (usually the largest cluster of enemies I could find) so the fact that shooting moves you back didn't mean much until you were near the edge and were forced to turn around. If you could somehow tailor the enemy spawn, or maybe even the level, to give the fact that you move and shoot with the same button some meaning or consequence other than potentially falling off the edge if you shoot in one direction for too long, I'd say you have a very unique game on your hands. :)

Nice job on the game. Interesting concept on using the recoil for movement. It's a challenging mechanic to handle for the recoil and shooting. Possibly consider reducing the amount of inertia contained with the recoil. Adding some drag to the player so they cannot infinitely speed up could allow for a more precise movement with the shooting to move. Keep up the good work on the game!

A neat idea, but it was very hard to kill the enemies while staying on the platform. Perhaps it would have been easier if altering your trajectory only took a few shots.

Thanks for checking out our game, [E.(a)T.](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/e-at). Much appreciated .

banana-man 2017-05-03 21:10

@simple-blue that makes a lot of sense I will look into that! Not sure how much more I could add to this game but some people seem to enjoy it after they get use to the controls. One of the things I probably struggle with most often is getting the controls to feel right. Such is the class I developed for class if you get a second totally check it out! https://gamedesignltu.itch.io/spacebound

At first I had my doubts with that recoil movement, but the fact is that I found it really funny to play. I've already played some tries and I had a really good time here. You made the most important part of a game: make it funny to play. Good job!

banana-man 2017-05-03 23:04

@DiegoCTorguet thanks man! My favorite part of playing was getting a train of enemies and kicking them in a line

krunoslav 2017-05-04 16:18

Nice game, it was hard to master the recoil movement, I think i could not :P I like the mechanics though. I liked the enemies design :)

notiiivan 2017-05-05 02:38

Woah, this is a really original gameplay mechanic! I've never played anything before that had me weigh if shooting at an enemy would throw me off a cliff. That being said, it was a little frustrating that it took so many shots to kill one guy :P

Overall though, this was really cool, and I enjoyed it a lot. :)

kleinzach 2017-05-05 03:30

Awesome idea! That was very fun to play, though It was very hard getting a hang of the movement. I really appreciated the tutorial, and then your bouncing as well!

breadmower 2017-05-06 15:52

Simple and fun, though quite challenging when there's several enemies after you - I was constantly spinning around to look over my shoulder and check that I wasn't about to hit an enemy behind me! One suggestion: it's sometimes a bit difficult to line up your shots correctly - have you thought about allowing the player to use the mouse to aim (so mouse left/right would do the same as A/D, but you'd have a bit more fine control).

banana-man 2017-05-06 18:57

@Breadmower Yeah I didn't want to add it to my submission because I was having issues with it but you download the build off the itch.io it will have mouse controls. A lot of people seem to be struggling with the difficulty so that's one thing I'm going to work on and I have many plans to make it easier and allow for the player to survive longer!

neontropics 2017-05-15 17:48

Very nice mechanic! It is maybe a bit too hard at the moment - either a bigger dish to play on or less impact from shooting would be nice. Especially if you start trying to get a circular movement along the edge going, you quickly speed up enough that it becomes impossible to stay on.

I'd probably speed up the shot speed as well as add some more sound effects and maybe some sort of explosion upon hitting enemies - more feedback here will make it more satisfying.

gael-philippe 2017-05-16 11:47

Very interesting I liked the colored graphics a lot. A bit difficult to get the hang on the controls (even more so with an azerty keyboard :-/)

harry-alissavakis 2017-05-20 00:46

What a coincidence, I have actually been experimenting with a mechanic like that recently! It's a really fun way to move, but in this environment it's really easy to fall off :/ Other than that it was a very fun concept and a solid game overall! Also I really loved the song choice, it really got me in the shooting mood :3 Well done! :D
