Woo!
This looks super cool from the two screenshots, but I can't play it on Windows :(. It boots up, I hear some noises for a second, then OpenGL crashes, and the program stops responding immediately. If it makes a difference, I'm on Windows 10 64-bit. [Here's what the terminal looked like on crash](https://pastebin.com/YyFpMUyu)
@iseeicy Try running in compatibility mode for windows 7. The terminal output was just the audio lodaing infromation, nothing to wory about. Did it return any other errors?
hey i had the same issue as iseeicy. i cant play it on windows. i really like your screenshots though! it looks great, wish i could play!
@red-fan-games That did it!! I'm playing right now - pretty cool so far. The mouse sensitivity is SUUUPER low though, to the point where even if I crank up the DPI on my mouse, it's still pretty sluggish. I'll report back once I'm done playing!
That was fun. The atmosphere was super cool, even if it was a tad loud. Throwing the candle to find my way was super cool, which plays well with your mind trying to figure out whats in the dark. Took me a bit to find my way but it was pretty cool doing so.
That being said, I might dream about teapots tonight...
Just gave it a try on my Ubuntu laptop, and it works just fine!
That combo of the sharper textures and the high contrast lighting is pretty cool. Reminded me a bit of some of the early 3d renderers of the late 90s. Great job on those visuals!
Didn't worked even with Windows 7 compatibility mode.
Damn. Really wanted to try this.
Got this with Windows 10 and launching in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

@red-fan-games I love your ps1 vibe.
I did my entire project for the compo, custom engine and editor.

@red-fan-games Couldn't get it to work, got to the title screen but main game was just a black screen, the audio was playing and panning with mouse movement, so i guess just a problem with rendering, i'm on windows 10, tried with compatibility for windows 7 and without, same behaviour either way. Terminal was writing "AY" alot.. I'm running an amd r9 380x which claims an OpenGL Version 6.14.10.13474 in case that helps. Shame because it looked interesting
Good work man!
Unfortunately the game didn't work for me. I'm running Windows 8 on my desktop computer, your application launches perfectly, then it gives me the title screen, and finally I see nothing, only a black screen with some haunting sounds on the background (ambience and audio design seem to be well paced, I'll vote for them since I can't play the game at all).
UPD: I also tried running it in various compatibility modes.
I would like to play your game, but it doesn't work on my PC (I use Win10). You use a shader which is more or less similar with mine - in my own project Abaddon. I will try again soon ++
It does not work for me on Window 7 64bit, the game looks interesting and I'm happy you did a LD with a 3d custom engine, I'll give it another try on Ubuntu 16.04
Ran it no problem on windows 10 in compatibility mode. The PS1 graphics really drew me in and made it interesting. The mood (I presume anyway) you were going for was achieved really well, someone sitting across from me was terrified there was going to be a jump scare at any moment!
On the other hand the controls were really rough; the mouse moved very very slowly and the character received a TON of acceleration while in the air which made it very difficult to control in a way that didn't feel very fun.
Overall I gave 3/5, with a 5/5 in mood and 4/5 in innovation (seriously, using the candle to move the teapot was the funniest thing to me for some reason). Good stuff my guy
Looked pretty cool, but I couldn't get it to run either! :(
Sorry sorry, I tried the 64 bit on both 10 and 7 compatibility mode and it wouldn't run. Makin your own engine is hugely ambitious but this is the downside. If you fix it for win10 then send a @ message here and I'll come back and try/rate it <3
@ilseroth Use the 32 bit version on windows 10 and enable compability mode for windows 7.
Looked pretty cool, but I couldn’t get it to run either! :( ChickAndGaint ---> https://dantewang.itch.io/chick-and-giant
Sorry, I tried to run it, but it wouldn't work. I have a 64 bit computer Windows 10 computer, and tried running both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions in Windows 7 compatibility mode as administrator, but neither would work. I would hear a bunch of sounds, and then it would crash. I'm not sure why...
Also, you left a comment on my game "Timeless" saying it wouldn't run, but that should be fixed now (assuming it works for Linux at all, but I wouldn't know...).
32bit version with compatibility mode for Windows 7 didn't work for me. I see the same error that @jushiip is seeing
Works on Ubuntu 16.04, unfortunately I was not able to throw candles (mouse left?). So I was kinda stuck at the beginning, IIRC this is a custom engine and the mood is really nice! Good job!
Oh man I rode some teapots. I could never get to the purple thing though. That chanting was pretty great in terms of making it mysterious. I think you could have made it a little easier to see though, I fell down those holes so many times.
I'm having the problems other's are having on Windows 10. I tried running the 32 bit version in Windows 7 compatibility mode, but I had no luck :(
Ran it on linux, it worked but I couldn't managed to get off the first piece of land. It looks cool, i liked the teapots. Sound was kind of annoying and repetitive.
I managed to launch the game with windows 7 compatibility on and I like the atmosphere and sound of the game but the controls are really hard to manage the character turns camera extremally slow and when I tried to jump on the second teapot I always fall down the platform, other than that pretty nice entry
Hmm interesting game, I really liked the weird horror vibe you had going, and the pixelated graphics were nice and retro too. Like playing silent hill on ps1. Tbh I was a bit on edge that something might jump out at me while I was playing, and honestly I don't play that many horror games for that reason!
I didn't get very far, I wasn't able to throw any candles. Also the mouse was extremely slow to turn the camera around. I was running it in compatibility mode on windows 10. Overall though it was a cool experience even with its difficulties to run.
I won! Guys, if you the Windows 64 bit version doesn't work(it didn't for me), try the 32 bit version. Really atmospheric! I'm really happy you had checkpoints, it took me a while to figure out and exectute the journey to the lamp in the beginning.
Windows 10 user here. I tried the 32-bit version without compatibility and in Win 7 compatibility mode, but it just makes a weird loud noise and Windows says that it crashed.
Looks cool, hope to give it a try later!
Hey hey, I'm here to try it but I can't get it to launch on windows 10 =( Hit me up with an @burgee if you manage to change it and I'll check it out! Good luck!
The shader doens't compile: ``` ERROR::SHADER::FRAGMENT::COMPILATION_FAILED 0:15(25): error: no matching function for call to `pow(int, float)'; candidates are: 0:15(25): error: float pow(float, float) 0:15(25): error: vec2 pow(vec2, vec2) 0:15(25): error: vec3 pow(vec3, vec3) 0:15(25): error: vec4 pow(vec4, vec4) 0:15(10): error: operands to arithmetic operators must be numeric 0:17(33): error: no matching function for call to `pow(int, float)'; candidates are: 0:17(33): error: float pow(float, float) 0:17(33): error: vec2 pow(vec2, vec2) 0:17(33): error: vec ```
This fixes the black screen issue on my computer: en1/res/shaders/post.lua: lines 30 and 32, you're calling "pow(10, XXX)", it should be "pow(10.0, XXX)". (same for other shaders/*.lua)
(just for information: what display driver are you using on GNU/Linux? (I'm using Nouveau)).
Unfortunately I got the same compatibility issues. I tried running as Windows 7 with the 32-bit version. I also tried downloading the 64-bit "plswork.zip" version and tried it both unchanged and in Windows 7 compatibility. Sorry mate! :(
My experience on Windows 10 is that 32bit version doesn't run at all (crashes every time), but 64-bit launches without crashing for me about 1 in 5 times. Alt-tabbing out has a good chance of stopping mouse input from working. Pretty touchy. I managed to get to the candle and to the next platform but then alt-tabbed out. I like the way this game looks, but it's really hard to navigate. One big issue was jumping on the teapots was difficult to do reliably because the character would wildly overshoot.
Noting for reference that my system is an i7 with Nvidia 780Ti gpu, as these platform issues might be related to gpu type.
(Edit: Played on stream at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/139750250 - time 1:40:00)
@ace17 Thanks, patched this into the game. I'm using the i915 drivers.
@burgee Hey, I uploaded a crucial fix. Remember to trye 32 bit and 64 bit versions.
@candlesan Uploaded a small fix for your problem. Could you give it another try?
@mmkalll Uploaded a fix for the problem.
@chaseplays Fixed the problem.
@jushiip Fixed your problem.
@eveningwayward Fixed the problem.
@ilseroth @xxdoombox @epiplon @smooth
Fixed a large problem in the game, could you give it another try?
The sound is super loud and actually hurts on my right ear but the graphics are nice. Otherwise solid game! (Windows 10 + 32bit Version on a 64bit System)
Do not work for me :disappointed_relieved: (with windows 10)
hey man still doesnt work for me, i am using windows 10. i ran it in windows 7 compatibility mode. when i run the Tepo.exe file, a command prompt screen opens briefly, and then an openGL window opens and i hear some music/sounds for a few seconds and then the program crashes. im still interested in playing though, if you make some patches mention me in another comment so that i can give it a shot!
Windows 7 here, 64 bit did not work but 32 bit did. Very strange atmosphere and music, enjoyed the mood it created. Had trouble jumping accurately but managed to get to the candle, not much further though.
I was not able to get this running in Windows 7.
@automatonvx I fixed your provlem with my game, give it anither go?
I tried it again, 32 and 64 bit, with compatibility. Still exactly the same black screen after the title I'm afraid. Just for fun i also tried the linux version on ubuntu in virtualbox - didn't work (unsurprisingly) it gave me : Warning: Unable to set VSync! SDL Error: That operation is not supported ARB_vertex_array_object not available. ./run.sh: line 1: 2352 Segmentation fault (core dumped) bin/bin
Couldn't get it to run... Seems like my libstdc++ is too old. :sweat_smile:
```bash $ ldd bin/bin | grep not bin/bin: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.20' not found (required by bin/bin) bin/bin: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.8' not found (required by bin/bin)
$ uname -a Linux gfm-ubuntu 3.13.0-116-generic #163-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 31 14:13:22 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ```
I could try compiling it from source, though... Add a link to the description and hit me up, please. :smiley:
I also highly advise you to follow [itch.io's guidelines for homemade stuff](https://itch.io/docs/itch/integrating/platforms/linux.html#homemade--low-level-engine-advanced), to avoid this kind of issue...
Getting the same Error as @jushiip on windows 10 in win 7 compatibility mode. I will try again soon because reading those who have played this makes me want to try it,
@gfm Added a source code download. To build, first try running `lua build.lua` in the command line. Then type `f` into the prompt and press enter. Than type `b` into the prompt and press enter. Than type in uppercase `Q` and hit enter. If this does not work, run the command `rm $(find -name *.o)` then run `make`. To run the finished build run `bin/bin`.
@red-fan-games - I think I've found the bug that's causing crashes on the windows version. (from debugging the crash)
The problem is that 'input' in Scene is uninitialized, and the existing value on the heap is non-null. On the first frame input is not set to physics-input, and therefore it may be an arbitrary value, and accessing the structure at the bad pointer may crash the game. But not always.
@sgstair Thank you so much man! I highly appreciate you taking the time to navigate the mess that is my code to find the one place where I screwed up. Also thanks for taking the time to attempt to run my game. I implemented your patch, so it sould hopefully work. You can change mouse sensitivity in `en1/config.lua`. Try getting the 64 bit version now and see if it's any better. Once again, thanks for the help, you have my utmost gratitude.
@red-fan-games No problem; debugging issues like these to understand the problem is something I find enjoyable :) I'm glad to help
I've launched the game 5 times, no crashes now - it was almost every time before, that seems to have done the trick. Thanks for the tip on the mouse sensitivity
@fouralex @masterkrepta @occultone @xxdoombox
Guys, the 64 bit version is confirmed to work. It has been confirmed to be fixed now, give it another shot if you wish.
@red-fan-games: You should link your GNU/Linux binary with "g++ -static-libstdc++ -static-libgcc". It will embed the standard C++ library into the final executable ; the resulting executable will be bigger, but you will improve your chances that it runs other GNU/Linux distros.
I want to start off with the graphics, which look great! At first, I wasn't a fan of the dim light, but then it was later used as a great mechanic! The audio was repetitive, unsettling, and generally just felt "off"... which was great! It fit the sort of mysterious mood of the game. The game was fun, and used the same mechanics that were there from the start and built on them. Sometimes, though, (in fact, most of the time), my left mouse button would get "stuck" (not the physical mouse, but in the game it got stuck), which confused me a bit. Finally, I think the teapots often felt unsafe, and if they had been a bit more stable, the game could have been even better. Overall, fantastic job.
Oh, also, it works now! I-if you hadn't figured that out already... by the fact that I left this comment.
@geckoo1337 Hey, I fixed the issue with my game. Give it another try?
Doesn't seem to work on my machine... Tried the 64 bit and 32 bit versions, no difference. Just a black screen. I have Windows 7. :( It's a shame because it looks cool in the screenshots.
Loved the art in this so much. The music was really creepy and somehow the teapots seemed to work with the atmosphere. The movement and the engine reminded me very much of devil daggers and old-school FPSes.
It was a bit frustrating that the candle actually made it *harder* to see, but it was a fun mechanic.
I played this on Livestream Today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr-ZBj_dJa4
I had some extensive thoughts in the video as a Horror aficionado, some issues with the character controller and how dark everything was. It does however now work on Windows 7 as confirmed by @red-fan-games !
OMG, I've never been so happy to see the word YOU WIN before in my life. Geez, that's hard! I mean, surfing the teapots is kinda tough, but, dang, the jumps coming off of the giant teapot with the purple tip makes me want to throat-punch orphan bunnies!
I like the candle gimick. The amount of air control you have while jumping is strangely out of place for a FPS. Once I discovered it, it was kinda nice, though. The visuals are just bonkers. I'm not sure if there's some kind of shader voodoo going on if it is just horribly broken UVs on the models, but it sure is alien.
But, of course, the real star of the show here is the music. It pretty much sells the whole show.
So, its a rather difficult 'art game' FPS platformer. A horrible idea executed very, very well :wink:
BTW, Ran the Win64 version on Windows 7 X64 with no problems at all.
It took a while to get the hang of this, but once I did I enjoyed it. I really like the candle mechanic, it forces you to think about your jumps a lot more before you make them.
The visuals were great, the audio was ominous. Overall it set a really strong mood.
I know I said this on the stream, but the jumping feels WAY too fast, I'd add damping of some kind. Other than that, good work!
Ok, I had some weird feelings while playing that. And I don't mean it in negative way. It just took me out from my comfort zone into world of magic.
I had no idea what was happening there. I was jumping on flying teapots and shooting candles. And it felt good and bad at the same time :)
And there were some random background noises that sounded like human speaking.
I had some enjoyable moments there! Thanks for sharing!
Really awesome game. I love it. I will probably play it alot more.
I like the zip file name almost as much as I like the graphics.
...and I really like that zip file name.
As for gameplay, my only big problem with it was the jump speed. It was hard to get the jump just right when it went so quickly.
Really interesting world! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQvFJMpbZ5A
