Nice game! I almost never used the jetpack though, only one time when a lot of enemies had cornered me. I also like that the game plays in the browser (I also made a browser game), because I'm too lazy to download and install a lot of games.

Really nice game. I think this is one of the best game i have played from Ludum Dare 38. There is really no problem in the game. I have not seen any bugs. I love this game and I recommend this to everyone to play this game.

mrchippy 2017-04-30 12:55

It's really nice. The art is really good and the gravity works well. There wasn't much incentive to use your jet pack which made the dodging your own bullets mechanic not work well. Besides that though it is a really good game.

spinaljack 2017-04-30 14:18

I got some bullet issues where they would explode right after firing so only some of them made it towards the enemies. Nice theme and art and animations. I like how the bullet orbit the planet and how you can push the smoke particles. I have to agree there's not much point in using the jet pack. Maybe add flying enemies or enemies that attack you which you have to jump over.

xykvy 2017-05-01 19:28

I fixed a few of the bugs and made the bullets a bit lighter that way they go all the way around the planet (which was my original intention!) in an update you can find [here](xykvy.itch.io/newtons-cannon) , you can also still find the original Ludum Dare version [here](xykvy.itch.io/newtons-cannon-ld38). That's all!

Very cool! The minimap is very neat feature! I also love the simple art style and sounds. It's pretty satisfying shooting all the bullets around the planet in an almost stable orbit! Enjoyed playing it!

historymaker118 2017-05-01 19:38

I liked the retro graphics of this, and the arcade style action. Has a very retro feel. Unfortunately like most old school games, I found it very hard to play, either I'm just bad at the game's mechanics, or it's intentionally nintendo hard, after five attempts I could still barely get to 30 seconds. Perhaps it's something I need to practice to get good at. Great work for being made in only 2 days.

baptisteq 2017-05-01 19:51

wow impressive you can actually fire a bullet in orbit! my technique was to throw the most bullets in obit then wait for the aliens to be shot. Great game !

chronosv2 2017-05-01 19:51

Fun little arcade game with really neat gravity mechanics! I liked the graphics and sound as well.

Keep up the great work!

baby-dino-herd 2017-05-02 02:52

Graphics are cute, consistent, and really help to set the mood. Mini-map is really helpful! As others have said, wish jetpack had more reason to be used, perhaps being able to kill the UFO?

kantieno 2017-05-02 02:56

Good job it's a really satisfying game! I like the color scheme and especially like the little mini map in the corner. The feeling of watching you no scope yourself from across the map is great. Really enjoyed this entry!

pickler 2017-05-02 03:07

Very well done. I loved the physics, and the graphics were great! Congratulations!

ethereal-psyche-games 2017-05-04 21:37

This a very solid compo game. The core mechanic is funny and the concept of the gravitational bullets is very interesting.

There is only a few things I see in the game: -The rotating background fazed me, perhaps it would be nice a star static background. -Background music, it would have been very nice playing with a retro music. -A little of challenge. It's easy to master the mechanic and I felt that I need some challenges (other enemies, possibility to kill the ufo, I dont know xD)

Anyway, is a great solid compo entry, and overral it's a funny game. Good work!

tat2tim 2017-05-04 22:44

Man, I am blown away that you did this for the compo. Well done, a very cool arcade style game with lots of charm and polish. Hats off.

igalencar 2017-05-05 22:39

Very cool game... Try Miine https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/save-the-little-world

powerspark 2017-05-05 23:00

Great entry! It was super polished which is great, art looked very satisfying too. My only wish *was* that the gravitational bullets mechanic was used in a way that would force you to use the jetpack... this was until I realized you fixed it in the updated version, nice! Now you can create additional enemy types; maybe something that hovers in space. Keep working on it! :D

tylerraz 2017-05-05 23:05

Well done, love the arcade-y feel. Jet pack was well done, and I agree with @powerspark that more enemy types would be a good way forward!

d-studios 2017-05-06 00:36

Very good game! You should add the how to play directions on the compo description too though, rather than just the website with the game. I got confused about what the controls were until I found the controls on the bottom of the website. You should also be able to move with the arrow keys.

This game definitely should be expanded in the future. It has the potential to be a successful game. You should add some catchy music and some power ups and a better main menu screen. Also, when you die, you should not be able to rotate the world and enemies should not be able to continuously spawn and get destroyed by bullets. It will look better if the time was frozen. I liked the "radar" function on the upper left side of the screen which shows where you are and your bullets are. However, I did not realize its function until later on in the game (I actually thought that the "radar" was a separate planet). You should make the "radar"'s function clear from the start of the game. You should also add enemy locations in the radar. Also, I got some bullet issues where the bullets exploded as soon as they were fired, without even hitting robots. Next, there was a glitch in where a robot fell on the floor and was moving. Also, I think the "hearts" in the UI will look better if the inside was fully shaded with the 'pink' color.

This game was very good. I definitely had some fun. I liked the innovation of the "your own bullets can hit you" mechanic. I liked this game's usage of the theme and the rotating world mechanic. The graphics were alright, but nothing very special or catchy. I liked the game's sound effects but there should be some catchy music. There wasn't much humor in this game though. To make it funny, you could make funny looking graphics, but not bad-looking graphics, and maybe funny sound effects or even funny music! Finally, the mood section in this game is pretty good.

In conclusion, this game is awesome!

schizoid2k 2017-05-06 00:55

Fun to play. I didn't really use the jetpack too much though. Nice parallax scrolling effect!

daveybb 2017-05-06 02:46

I felt that the controls were pretty solid, and really liked the fluidity of the jetpack flying, though I didn't find myself using it very much since most of the enemies were on the ground. It was a really neat mechanic to make it so that the bullets could come back around to hit you! I had a couple runs going that I was doing pretty well, only to die by my own shot, which caused some laughs. It felt like some of the times that I shot, a bullet didn't come out? Perhaps intentional, to avoid having tons of bullets on the screen, but it was a little confusing.

I really liked it. Nicely done!

codechomper 2017-05-06 16:39

Dang, I killed myself so many times lol. Great entry and use of the theme! I wish the main menu would allow you to hit enter to play again so I didn't have to use the mouse. Great job, keep up the good work.

hectigo 2017-05-07 14:37

Would have preferred two-handed controls with arrow keys for movement and other keyboard keys for actions, at least as an alternative.

Also would be cool if you could shoot down the UFO, maybe more could appear every once in a while and you'd need to split your time between dealing with enemies on the ground and in the air.

Might have preferred showing the whole world at once instead of having a zoomed in view with a minimap to the side, though that may have taken away from the cool graphics.

jishenaz 2017-05-09 00:19

Very fun entry! I played both versions. There was a bullet collision bug that seems to be fixed in the post-LD version. I loved moving around with the jetpack and shooting orbiting bullets. You should offer a downloadable version.

toulou 2017-05-10 18:42

Cool game ! It's really simple and intuitive, the graphics are nice and it's fun ! Well, it's short and there's not much content, but hey it's a game jam. Great work !

richard-michael-smith 2017-05-11 23:48

As others have mentioned, there are lots of ways you could develop this further (different key controls, ability to shoot down the UFO, more UFOs, etc.) but the most important thing is that you've got something *worth* developing! I hope you continue to work on it!

mesa 2017-05-12 23:56

This is by far one of my favorite Ludum Dare entries I've seen so far. I spent a good while playing it, and it's very fun and feels very well thought out and complete. Excellent work!

Lovely graphics, fun game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZ-D40BBNhA

Love the mini-map. Didn't get it at first, but when I did, it saved my life more than a few times. Def reminds me of the arcade/nes games I grew up with! Also, love the sound! My gf didn't. ;) Screen Shot 2017-05-18 at 12.35.38 AM.png
