This looks beautiful! Saving to play when I get home from work :D

devmax 2017-12-04 21:47

Saving this for the review stage!

capitanretraso 2017-12-04 21:49

Superb visuals! Really liked how the gameplay feels

vfabien21 2017-12-04 22:09

Really nice graphics, animations and old school style, specifically the gun and 3D movement. I fell that there is some potential as some sort of puzzly-turnbased-fps. I got a bit lost though...

bastienre4 2017-12-04 22:17

[EDIT] Its back, i'll test it.

404 on the dropbox link. I'm sad now.

pkenney 2017-12-04 22:21

Wow! Wasn't expecting turn-based from the screen shot, but I approve! This was excellent and I played it all the way to the end. Difficulty was just about right - let me learn in the beginning, and then tested me with the final boss. I used lightning around corners a lot, took all the cores I could, and used a lot of double-shot early, then quad vs the boss.

I really didn't experience any problems. Everything looked great and played smoothly. The graphics as well as audio were on point - really made a nice space and mood. Then menus/UI are tight as well.

I'm glad it wasn't longer, the last level was about the right place to end it. I would say maybe there was a little bit of excess wandering, I got a little lost on maybe level 2 trying to find the exit.

It was interesting the way the AI hung back around corners. They wanted to blast me when I stepped through to initiate battle, and that made sense. But there were times where they could have pressed an advantage, but I was able to fall back past one corner and they'd sit patiently and let me recharge, heal, recharge again, and then blast them around the corner with lightning. It was definitely cool that they had this aspect, and sometimes the one that looked a bit like the alien face-hugger (2nd enemy you see) seemed to break the rule and charge me, which was awesome.

This is really well done - great entry.

Thanks for the feedback guys, also link has been fixed. Sorry about that. Strange that the link changed on its own o.o

bastienre4 2017-12-04 22:37

Awesome game ! Beautiful, great music, great gameplay. Love the idea of a turn based fps. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that you constantly have to set the weapon with the 1-6 keys. I think it would be better if the game remember your selected weapon. Other than that, its perfect. Congrats !

pizzatotino 2017-12-04 22:38

Omg ;-; amazing artstyle and overall mood, the enemies remind me of Axiom Verge a bit. Kept me on edge, but not in the way Amnesia would, more in the way System Shock 2 would. I am such a fan! Dying to know the lore behind this alien planet and the creatures

retrospecter 2017-12-05 09:18

Solid game. The visuals are amazing. It feels like a nice doom-lite. Good job guys

mighty-chebo 2017-12-05 09:23

Visually superb, with the possible exception of the emptiness of the levels (but given the time restriction, that's understandable). There are a lot of mechanics interacting and it was a bit difficult to figure out if their interactions were properly balanced (though I didn't notice any big problems). The core of the game (the way the weapon works) is excellent and the concept could be developed into something great. Unfortunately, I found the exploration to be boring - just wandering dark corridors until you stumble upon the exit.

salmonjelly 2017-12-05 09:37

Wow. The graphics are great, reminds me of shooters from old - but turn-based! I found heal to be rather strong though, one heal and poof no more injuries. Monsters attacking from around corners are super scary stuff, not a complaint there. Good job!

octopal 2017-12-05 09:39

Wow this game kicks ass. The Aesthetics really bring me back to oldschool games of this genre. Jaw dropped for sure, well made.

lumous 2017-12-05 09:40

Great game! Reminds me of Hexen with the lightning. I don't particularly like using z and x for the controls instead of something more common (Like e to charge and maybe control to shoot) But after reading the manual it made sense! Died only once. I'm glad the AI was predictable, made it possible win by strategy rather than luck =)

Great job!

fishbrain 2017-12-05 10:14

Old skool awesomeness!

goncalo-monteiro 2017-12-05 10:15

One of the best entries, very original! You executed the turn-based combat very well, congrats!

hegback 2017-12-05 10:38

Although I want to ask if adding minimaps would help navigating better, the game seems awesome as it is imo.

scurf 2017-12-05 11:29

It's just something! Awesome game! Reminded me of the good old days, turn-based RPGs with a view from the eyes and a little more Zero Tolerance.

fabian-pohl 2017-12-05 11:50

Great Art and atmosphere! Gameplay is Doom meets Rouge-Like-RPG. Pretty solid gameplay but the odlschool 3D pixel art made my day!

jushiip 2017-12-05 11:55

Ok. Let me preface this by saying that this is not a biased review (since I know you in person).

I really loved the game, the combination of mood, graphics and the interesting gun/charge mechanic works really well. I especially loved the shockwave gun which allowed me to kill enemies lurking around corners. The animations and sounds make shooting/killing stuff especially satisfying. (I love the animations!)

I would have loved to have a minimap (metroidvania style) that shows me where I have already been. Only thing that currently helped me to navigate was the bloodstains on the ground.

Hopefully you turn this into a full game! Best game I've played so far in LD40.

Edit: oh and I killed the end boss! :D

andreadbx 2017-12-05 12:15

Amazing game and amazing graphics, would love to see more content :D

nikorasuchan 2017-12-05 12:46

@jushiip <3 loved ur game too

urnext7634 2017-12-05 15:18

Those visuals remind me of old 90's shooters I played as a kid. The sounds and music really helped set the mood. Great game!

lag 2017-12-05 17:47

Really really cool game, reminds me of Wolfenstein and old Doom. Interesting game mechanics too. Love the atmosphere and music too!

instantnoedel 2017-12-05 18:00

Wow, amazing game! It took me a while to get used to setting a charge before shooting, but the mechanics work really well. Gameplay is smooth and fun, it's nice and quite lengthy. It's not quite challenging, especially the heal gun made things a bit easy, but just working my way through all the levels was really worthwhile. Awesome final boss. I'd really like to see more of this!

josehzz 2017-12-05 21:45

Incredible congratulations!. Looking at the screens shot thought it was going to be a Doom clone but the mechanics are different and engaging, nicely done.

reigen 2017-12-05 22:32

Amazing game, the best one I've played from the jam. I love everything about it. the art, strategy presentation.

I would like there to be some sort of hud displaying the controls besides the tutorial though as it's not uncommon for me to not remember everything right away

snowdrama 2017-12-06 00:50

Amazing game! That said a map that expands as you explore as well as some enemy variety would go a long way to making it even better! I hope to see the project expand and grow!

drzanuff 2017-12-07 17:00

Great game, the movement is very responsive. When you get it it's very easy to play.

jellycopter 2017-12-07 17:07

The art style sets such a great mood for the game, charge management gets interesting, and all in all it feels polished and realized. My one recommendation is maybe a strafe? There were many times sidestepping would've been perfect. Otherwise, probably my favorite game of LD!

tobiasnl 2017-12-07 17:09

Really nice weapon sprite and effects. The game itself was quite original too and fun to play for a while. Although I hoped for a little more variation enemy- and environment wise. Still, good entry!

grentacular 2017-12-07 17:15

I love it! The first couple of levels are a little slow and I could do with a map, but the art is stunning and the gameplay is one of my favorite in the jam. Great job!

pebkac 2017-12-07 17:25

Pretty smooth controls, once you get the hang of it. I liked the graphics and audio too. The level and enemy design were a bit one-sided though. Couldn't really feel the theme.

crock 2017-12-07 17:37

Awesome game, i love the strategy, the move, the feeling, very very nice concept, plz keep develloping this game and make a final one :)

angelonias 2017-12-07 18:17

Wow, just too good! gj!

norrimo 2017-12-07 19:26

Wow, that was interesting. I had a lot of fun after I realized wich weapon has which abillity. Sometimes it was a bit annoying because I didn't know if I made currently some kind of progress in the labyrinth or not. I mean, I didn't know where the door is and so I'm running multiply times through the same places. But I'm impressed how much you have done in this short time. :0 The gameplay is great and also the art style. I love the tactical aspect and the atmosphere was really alien. :D By the way, my first encounter with this red guy was short and deadly. I guess I will play it aigain later for revenge.

zee 2017-12-07 20:14

I really enjoyed this one! The art and music really create a great atmosphere. Wizardry mix with Wolfenstein game-play is right up my ally too! I'd love to see this expanded with additional content and refinements. Its also has a good amount of content and length of length for a dare game. Overall it's one of my tops picks of LD40 so far.

The main problem I ran into where the controls. They seem needless complex. Having to swap ammo types every-time you shot was a bit annoying. It could have saved the last one you had equipped, and only let you shoot if you had the energy to do so. Rewards for exploring the map would have also been nice.

A bit less of an issue, is it's too easy to just charge up and kill everything with the ultra shot since the enemies don't really chase you, and you can kill them in one hit. My plan was usually to just charge up 6 times, shoot the ultra shot, charge up again, heal, move on. I never really felt I had to worry about my defense or health in any way.

Other then those issues, everything was done very well! The the gun effects while charging up felt good to use, and rewarding to shoot. The simple but effective lighting by proximity was a nice touch too, and really adds to the horror theme / mood (I'd recommend copying Wolf3d's effect of walls being shaded slightly darker depending on the direction too). Overall, a great entry to the dare. As stated previously, I hope your team continues working on it!

chriiis88 2017-12-07 21:25

Looks great, has a great concept and is quite a bit of fun. The only thing I have to criticize is the controls. You could make things easier, if you allowed, for example, to select the weapon mode with the mousewheel and also to sidestep (so more like a modern fps control scheme). Also X/Z is hell for qwertz users :/

nikorasuchan 2017-12-07 23:11

Huge thanks for the informative feedback everyone. Now we know where to take this to now :D

iferit 2017-12-07 23:59

AWESOME GAME! really polished and i love the DooM-type style! I can see this becoming a really fun puzzle game! I have 2 suggestions,

1. please allow me to move by holding the key down x.x and

2. i think it would be really interesting if you remove the "Z" key, and allow the number keys to be the trigger for the action. You could allow all of the actions to play before you can move, so for the quad shot, you could make it fire when pressed and then fire 3 more times, each consuming a turn without allowing you to take another action.

I loved the game, keep up the good work!

ueki-shurei2006 2017-12-08 01:15

I was quite immersed when playing it. Shows how polished the game is. Awesome! I love the Doom-meets-roguelike feel.

ddrkirbyisq 2017-12-26 01:46

Quite interesting! Like other commenters noted, the presentation (controls, etc) could probably have been a bit better, but this was an interesting concept nonetheless and I liked the way it made me try and optimize the encounters with each enemy. The boss fight was also pretty satisfying to play through. Great job!
