I have hard time enabling vesa in dosbox. Are the video settings enough? (VESA_NOLFB, VESA_OLD, some SVGA_ setting). Nothing seems to be detected. Or maybe I have to download UNIVBE and run it under dosbox?

Hm... for me it was working with the default settings of DOSBox. Checking my default config says it uses svga_s3. The other svga settings should probably work as well...
Well, guess what. SVGA_S3 works (but not some of the other SVGA).
Anyway, I just tried to play. The idea is quite clever. So are the riddles. The movement is sliding too much, makes it harder. I stopped at level 3. Maybe I'll try it again once more later (gotta work on my entry :). But I quite like the idea of this.
I love this game! Pretty good execution and awesome look.
Visually it's great, and I like the style of gameplay. Short of things like music perhaps, this is almost finished enough to imagine people owning back in the day.
The controls are a bit loose though which can make it difficult at times. The second level took me quite a few tries to jump onto the door before it fully opened, for example. I also managed to drop into the side of the floor on the second level and stand just above the bottom edge of the screen, which was funny. But given the timespan to make it in, you managed to make the graphics, sounds, levels, as well as work with the extra complication of VESA and potentially protected mode, so such bugs can be excused. I spent most of my time working on just the tile engine for mine, so I know the feeling!
Since you said you wrote a keyboard driver I'm going to assume that it runs in full protected mode.
