Nice idea! Absorbing mechanics is really inspiring.

littleball 2014-04-28 11:52

So hard, I only managed to get a few each time. I like the simple graphics. We'll done for completing a game!

customphase 2014-04-28 11:52

Too simplistic to my taste. Didnt quite like it. The only thing i liked was visual style

gikdew 2014-04-28 11:53

Nice art, it really fits with the game style and the concept. great work

caridorc 2014-04-28 11:55

This game is very basic, no powerups, no coins, just moving left and right. It becomes boring in about a 100 seconds.

madflame991 2014-04-28 11:57

The abstract graphics are interesting and it's a nice first LD, although it feels repetitive quite quickly.

lantto 2014-04-28 12:01

The gameplay is not very fun but the graphics and audio make up for it. It's like watching contemporary art. I would love to see an adventure game in the same setting.

tiffi_gaming 2014-04-28 12:39

You sir are an artist. Great Game!

allurious 2014-04-28 13:19

Very artistic game, loved the idea of the absorb mechanic. It's not that challenging, but it's beautiful to watch!

local-minimum 2014-04-28 13:23

For me the speed (using FF on i7 computer) of moving that blob made it really really hard. The absorption needed to be quite perfect and many times I actually absorbed (got a point) but died at the same time. That I think also was part in having to stay and melt the falling thing for quite long before one was allowed to move on. Which was quite confusing since the score was already up. So that needs some tweaking.

Otherwise, fantastic graphics. Nice sound and sweet idea. Liked it and tried it a couple of times. Don't know if it speeds up, adds simultaneous drops and dual absorbers and other possibilities down the road, never got further than 5-10.

reinkout 2014-04-28 13:25

Graphics are beautiful. I loved the camera shake.

franklins-ghost 2014-04-28 13:31

Thanks so much guys :)

Really flattered that you all took the time to comment and am extremely happy that there's people that liked it. My first ever attempt at one of these and didn't really have a clue what I was getting into. Also first time I've ever done anything with music so extremely happy that people like the audio, was a fun aspect that I hadn't expected and guess it's why these LD's are so great.

Also definitely can see the point in the negative comments so thanks for those also cause agree with them and think the game is way to simple and needs more going on. So more motivation to extend this.

Very happy at the moment :)

blockbot 2014-04-28 13:34

This game has such a great feel.

tifu 2014-04-28 14:00

Really love the visual design and the music! Music seemed to stop at about score 35 and didn't start again until I got to 50 though. Gameplay didn't seem to speed up or such, which would have improved it I think.

franklins-ghost 2014-04-28 14:09

Thanks guys and hadn't noticed the music issue because don't think I'd played it that far so nice catch Tifu, thanks for mentioning it and if I do end up extending this later I have alot of comments to work from.

hypnohustla 2014-04-28 14:11

Love the atmosphere and the overall aesthetics! I wish I didn't have to click with the mouse to restart.

hexagore 2014-04-28 14:35

This works really well and is shockingly pretty. I'd love to try a harder version. :)

vdz 2014-04-28 15:48

Extremely simplistic catcher game that adds a small extra mechanic to the usual formula (having to press a button to catch), but it's unfortunately not enough to make it interesting, especially with the lack of the increasing difficulty that makes catcher games at least somewhat interesting. The background music wasn't very good, but it was better than nothing. I failed to see any relation to the theme.

soupy 2014-04-28 19:11

The left/right movement animation for the blob reminds me of the diseased boar god from the beginning of Princess Mononoke, in an extremely good way. The animation is organic but also cinematic.

Overall the art style is very inspiring, I'm a huge fan of minimalism and abstraction.

vilya 2014-04-28 21:14

Very atmospheric game. The music is really haunting! I like the nice simple mechanics too, but I felt the difficulty didn't ramp up quickly enough and there wasn't enough variation. Still thought it was pretty good though!

tchem 2014-04-29 03:27

Great job,,, i like so much the idea and mechanic. the minimalistic graphic to... congrats

franklins-ghost 2014-04-29 11:27

@Hypnohustla nice point about the mouseclick. Something really simple I should have thought about with the keyboard to restart. Guess something I'll learn from this experience.

@VDZ the theme is that the character is beneath the surface trying to protect his planet by absorbing enemies beneath.

@hexagore & @vilya if I extend this after I will definitely work on it actually becoming more difficult, variation and having more substance.

Cheers everyone else. Glad people are enjoying my basic entry and thanks Joseph Miller for the Princess Mononoke comment, nice to hear.

sirdorius 2014-04-29 13:29

I loved the shades of grey and the taste for the graphics, nice audio, nice animations, good job!

suurin 2014-04-29 13:32

Quite nice! I liked the mechanics, but you get bored of it really fast. I think if game sped up a little bit every time I consume the falling thing, the game will be more intresting.

franklins-ghost 2014-04-29 14:07

Yeah think the game not changing speed or anything is a massive issue and next time really need to approach the time better. Never tried one of these and second day was wasted away from the computer all day.

fullmontis 2014-04-29 14:50

Very interesting concept. I would spice up the challgenge a bit after a while cause it can become easy. Very nice visual style!

tomvert 2014-04-29 18:08

Interesting art style. It's too bad there's no feeling of progression, there could have been different waves to complete.

rnlf 2014-04-29 19:52

I liked the simplicity and the unique style and ideas. Was there a progression in difficulty? I didn't notice one, so I stopped after a while. Besides that, cool entry!

biggianthead 2014-04-29 20:08

Bravo, nicely done!
I liked how you managed to work with the absorb mechanics.
The simple graphics add to the atmosphere.

thelastbanana 2014-04-29 23:42

Congrats on your first Ludum Dare! :) Very simple, but it seemed like you were going for minimalism. Some more play mechanics would have been nice.

kill0u 2014-04-30 07:22

Nice little game :) Controls are a bit tricky though, you can't really align with invaders. Nothing bad, just comfort :P

nonentheless 2014-04-30 10:38

great pulsating sound, and the mood with these graphics. I like it, nice job!

franklins-ghost 2014-04-30 10:49

Just looked at my code for the first time since the weekend and realised I had actually set enter to restart so you don't have to click restart. Accidently had left a variable stopping it from working. My bad...

Also cheers everyone for the comments, have learnt alot and enjoying seeing what everyone else has made.

impmaster 2014-05-01 07:57

A little too simple to be truly fun, but it looks nice.

pixelulsar 2014-05-02 01:12

I liked the graphical style of the game, it looked pretty nice. The game gets repetitive after a while, it would be nice if it was extended with something else to make it more challenging.

franklins-ghost 2014-05-02 10:22

@Pixelulsar definitely think it needs to be extended to be more fun as people say, way to repetitive.

badgerpriest 2014-05-03 01:32

Really digging the unique aesthetic here! This could become a pretty cool game with more variety of monsters / things to do.

xaychru04 2014-05-04 19:10

The gameplay was too simple and repetitive, but I liked the visual style. Good job for your first LD! :)

tanjent 2014-05-06 16:29

Took a few gameover-s before I tried pressing DOWN :) Really good graphics, feels like you are interacting with a hand drawn animation. Convolved harmonica?

supermini_man 2014-05-18 19:27

Nice entry, the visuals are pretty cool.

borrismoose 2014-05-19 11:47

Nicely presented but way too slow-paced. You could make this into a good mobile game with a few additions and modifications I reckon.

alucard-j 2014-05-19 15:30

Simple art style looks great. Sound fits well (nice reverb, but high pitches can hurt a little!). Great job, well done.
