Always Alone by Jake Birkett 2011-12-19T16:14:00
Great take on Alone. I think a lot of people have been in this situation at least once in their lives.

COSMIC WHALE, HOLY GRAIL! Bizarre but I like it. The high-pitched sound gets a little painful after a while though!
Pretty neat little game, although the site you hosted it on (Mediafire) tends to have adult pop-behind windows even in Chrome. Thought I'd mention it as a warning for others when they download.
Ack, I'm sorry! You're totally right, the URLs needed http:// before them. It's what happens when you submit 7 minutes before the original deadline! :D
Apologies.
He does move quite slow but he's only little! The dining room (which was to be to the right of the room you enter) would have contained a speed powerup though.
faijdherbe, the problem is here:
J:\temp\ld48 games\ZedSurvivor>java -jar ZedSurvivor.jar
init
loaded level: 10000 - java.awt.Dimension[width=100,height=100]
start
Exception in thread "Thread-0" java.lang.IllegalStateException: Component must have a valid peer
at java.awt.Component$FlipBufferStrategy.flip(Unknown Source)
at java.awt.Component$FlipBufferStrategy.show(Unknown Source)
at net.faijdherbe.zedsurvivor.Engine.doGameLoop(Engine.java:108)
at net.faijdherbe.zedsurvivor.ZedLauncher.run(ZedLauncher.java:66)
What this means is that you can't get the buffer strategy for a component until it is visible. I'm guessing your game loop starts running before your frame, or the contained components (a panel?) are displayed. To fix it, run the rendering for your game after setVisible(true);
Regards, a fellow Java developer. :)
Indeed, not bad guitar! Unfortunately not really game. One thing to note though is that you need to check for the player's movement keys being held down all the time, as it's possible to hold up, then right, then release right and still expect to move up.
Absolutely fantastic game that kept me playing until the end. Love the reference. I think this may be my favourite so far.
Despite the randomness, there's definitely a game here. Not bad!
This game...this game! I love the style, and the pseudo-music that plays throughout. Great entry!
This game is really difficult, which is fine, as it's very much based on your timing. I managed to get quite far up but then the feet narrowed and I eventually fell off.
The only thing I'd recommend is some sort of stronger clue as to when a step falls of the screen, as it takes a while to get used to judging when you need a foot to land to prepare for the next step.
Quite fun, if a little frustrating!
I like the idea of arranging the level you're about to do, I'm not sure I've seen that before.
Certainly lives up to the name! Nice entry, and you've stuck to the theme perfectly.
Very amusing, but could do with a way to reset the level or navigate back to the menu when you get stuck or die.
I raised an eyebrow at the sound effects, but the potato sun made up for it. All hail our starch-based provider of light!
Must be the first GBA emulator entry I've seen, interesting.
This has to be one of the most addictive entries for me, very nice.
I had a few issues with this:
-Often random screen transitions, sometimes with no player character on-screen.
-Fleeing when I never went near the screen edge.
Also I'm not sure how this fits with the theme, but as a game it's quite fun. The voices were amusing, and the music was nice to listen to.
There's an impressive amount of stuff in this, and as someone said before, it's very much like Galaxy Trucker/FTL.
Quite enjoyable, though the menu screens are a little unresponsive (unless that's just my system).
NOM NOM NOM
Augh, my hair is on fire!
This becomes particularly amusing when you figure "if I take all the flames at once, I can clear the level and just get the bucket. Can't fail!" But then you hear
AAAAAUUUUGGGGGHHHH MMMMYYYY HHAAAIIIRRR IIIISSSS OONNNNN FFFFFIIIREEEEE
and you die. Marvellous.
Not sure about typing the location in to move the bunny, but it certainly gets challenging later on!
Could have used some sound, especially when you hit something. I know there's no sound in space. Damnit!
I didn't have any problems on Windows7, just so you know.
A lovely little game that really does need lots of attempts before you get anywhere due to the nature of the oscillation. I love the parallax background as it gives the game that little extra something without going beyond the theme, which is something I should have considered actually.
Overall a great entry in my opinion.
De10ter: yeah it happens occasionally. Press 'R' to reset the level as that's the only way you'll get the pieces back. :)
kddekadenz: do you have JRE 7 installed? A colleague of mine got it working straight off in his linux install. Were any errors thrown? If you run it by typing:
java -jar Minimal.jar
you should see any error output in the console.
Qaterknan: libgGDX (game framework) provides a JNI wrapper around Box2D, a 2D physics engine, right out of the box. Combined with some prior knowledge of Box2D it's almost too easy to set up a simple simulation. The trick is of course to make a game out of it, something that I hope you lot enjoy!
bernhard: the long ones stand on their own if you get the balance juuust right.. ;)
KHANanaphone: yeah that can happen. Hold down one of the bodies with the mouse but don't drag at all, it'll act like an anchor and assist with stabilisation. The perils of circles!
Shootin' da spudz. It was fun comparing progress with you Cider, good luck with your entry. :)
The slime in the floor unfortunately stopped me making much progress. :(
I really like the way you mixed sound volume with the gameplay, nicely done.
Cute, and pretty smooth too. My only gripe is that you don't move while sitting on a platform, requiring you to move in the direction of it. No biggy though.
Good platformer, and the spear mechanic is great. Nice entry!
Lovely art, and a good game, although the theme association may be a little lacking. ;) Great entry though.
Oh god I burnt my cat. Multiple times.
The movement is a little wonky, but otherwise this is quite cool.
Not a bad little game - I really like the graphics and the smooth animation/gameplay. Good stuff.
A lovely little game, I really liked it. Nice!
Not sure about using pre-existing music, but it does make the game better so why not. It does get a little slow in pacing though. Nice entry!
I love the end screen, and to answer it: it felt great. :)
Nice game! Going back to the menu after each key seemed odd, I would have expected to solve all locks before being given the next level.
GOD DAMNIT ASSHOLE DUCKS, STOP EATING IT ALL
Interesting concept, but no actual game here. Kinda amusing to run around in though!
I love that if you abduct humans but they miss your spaceship, they rocket into the air and glide for a while. Fun game!
A lovely little roguelike!
Great concept, and has something in common with my submission, so naturally I'm biased to liking it. ;)
One suggestion: spread the initial civilian spawn out a bit, and add more zombies to start with. It should make it more of a challenge.
Amusing game! One thing to note: limit the FPS using the LwjglApplicationConfiguration, or set vsync to true, as you can overheat some graphics cards by allowing unlimited FPS.
I really enjoyed this, I must admit. Really well done. One issue: if your submarine is on the right side of the map, the TPC can overlay it and force you to toggle it on/off while programming.
A little weird, but interesting.
Pretty cool, I like the music. Smooth gameplay too.
Interesting concept, taken a little further it could be more fun.
I apologise for the excessive hat slaughter X-Or. :)
y2bd: you're not the only one to suggest that actually!
Thanks for the comments everyone.
doitle: the target generation is 100% random and I select a target at random, so there are times when it's literally a gamble as to the right target. If I had more time I would've ensured the target is unique. Ta for the feedback though, I was anticipating this being mentioned.
I see where you were going with this, but there is one issue: when you die and it loads the level again, nothing is reset. You remain where you died and you can't move, forcing a restart.
I would suggest next time have mouse aiming rather than arrow keys aiming. Not a bad entry though!
Yes it's not an easy game, I admit. I struggle to get past level 3 or 4 most of the time. Not sure what that says about my ability to tweak difficulty!
