Outstanding
Hey zep this is Andrew from Pico Pico =D Glad to see you got this done, I'll play it with my wife later on!
A lot to like here.
I really dig this. I actually think it's more fun than Cannabalt.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/wjk8tjk0tt9jhx3/highscore.png
Haha best I've played so far
J: Try now, sorry about that. I didn't realize if I deleted the file from my dropbox folder it would make the link inactive.
Everyone else, thanks for the feedback! This one is getting pretty good reactions from people I show it to offline as well, so I'll probably keep working on it once judging is complete.
If you have any questions about the source or how it works, feel free to ask. All dialog (contents), questions and static backgrounds are done in assets/data.txt . Dialog (timing), the panning, animation timings are all hardcoded in the "Logic State" class on 173.
I mean "line 173 in game.py"
Sorry for spamming my own comments ...
For source file editing:
If you want to view any specific sequence, change the line "self.state = "INTRO01" on line 178 to whatever sequence you want to see.
The results sequences are my favorites, and you can jump straight to them by changing line 178 to any of the following and running the game.
self.state = "WINMINO"
self.state = "WINDEATH"
self.state = "WINPLAYER"
self.state = "TIE"
Thanks for the feedback guys, I agree. I didn't have a chance to put it in front of people before the submission and so I proritized more questions over "skip on space" function. That was a mistake.
Thanks all for playing, and thanks for your comments. I wonder if I can put in a skip button under the typo clause...a typo...in the design doc...
Hey Rex, what platform are you on? I'll try and get something together.
This is really good. Just wanna let you know it crashed after about teh 5th screen, but otherwise reaaallly good.
Is it winnable?
Great idea.
Seriously up-voted because of great use of the Wilhelm Scream =D
I found it really hard to adjust to WSAD not being mvoement, maybe consider flipping to WSAD move, arrors being fire.
You should shout about that mechanic more!
Everyone else who plays this game, don't give up, press the space key. This is actually a really fun prototype. I got the idea of "turn based platformer" when I played this.
I really enjoyed this, it might be fun if you could do more with the animals like feed them yourself
I liked the art style very much :) Maybe it's me but it seemed to sometimes create impossible obstacle pairs
I really enjoyed this! It was a little hard to predict what would happen based on my actions so I didn't feel I was 100% in control, but once you get aggressive and start attacking other colonies its a lot of fun
This was fun to explore around
I really liked this! Lot of fun and good gameplay, the animating feet were a really nice touch. One bug(?) if your character is on the floor AND next to a wall, youll wall jump sometimes rather than jumping straight up, which is what I would have expected. That one caught me a few times.
Good idea, nice juice with the screen shaking etc, maybe a but too easy to cheat
Server error from one mirror, not really sure what I am supposed to do at the other.
Sorry doesn't run on my machine
Sorry can't get it to download
That's tough =D Animations were really smooth, enjoyed it
I like the game, but sometimes I seem to lose at random
Probably best game thematically I've seen so far, deserves more people playing it
Pretty cool version of TWA, jump collision felt a little splashy sometimes but the atmosphere\music, little touches like the gently swaying level all cool
Red square = death team representing =D Fun game but I think giving the player a small sight radius rather than total darkness would have been more enjoyable. Trial and error only goes so far.
Thanks for the comments! I wanted to make more levels but my non gamer play tester friends kept telling me it was too hard =D I'll add some beefier ones later.
Thanks again everyone for your comments and playing my platformer. Since so many people commented on the transition effect I through together a blog post on it.

Any questions please ask me here or tweet @kwrky
Thanks Jimmy, just fyi there are quite a few more levels after the screenshot, and a whole new mechanic =D
I made one small change so now ANY button except Esc is jump
Mac version is incoming as soon as I figure out packaging, will have to obnoxious and fullscreen until I can rewrite the graphics engine though =/
AestheticGamer, thanks for your comments. I agree with all of them and I want to do more to fix the issues you've raised. Still kinda recovering from LD but soonish I'll start round 2 of polishing
Execution was great, simple and effective and funny =D
The E level is the end? It was interesting, lots of hidden mechanics like rolling up the wall =D
This hurts my brain but is great
That was really good =D
The movement was really snappy and quick, I finished the game without firing once after the first level as the enemy shots were slow enough I could dodge them
I enjoyed the congnitive work a lot on this game, maybe if you added a time pressure so people have to make decisions under stress, also checkpoints please =D
I am not sure what just happened, but I think I'm going to play it again =D
Anychance of moving the dl to dropbox or something? Can't get mediafire to work
lol at the finish, that was fun to play though
That was interesting =D I like the concept of disobeying the rules or doing something counter-intuitive, like Antichamber. If you made a more polished version with more stuff in it I'd play it.
"Times New Roman is Victorious" and I lolled out loud =D
Sorry can't run it, how can I get it working?
I don't really get what's going on but it is mesmerizing. Actually reminded me a little of Starseed Pilgrim if that's what you were going for =D
Lol
This is either full marks or 0 marks for humor ...
lol, how, I don't even...
Like the sparse visuals, the collision detection bugs were a little annoying =D Potato!
Game itself was a lot of fun, boss seemed a bit cheap
I like it, very tough.
I had a lot of fun with this! 2 things I would change - its really hard to get past the You Win message at 200m, it would be nice if you could pass through that and it just does random obstacles afterwards for a highscore chase. Also, every now and again there are some physics bugs if you exactly hit the join between blocks.
Sorry can't download it from mediafire, anychance you could link it from dropbox?
Argh! My Hair Is On Fire!
Enjoyed it =D Not got too far yet though...
Interesting, I didn't know what I was doing but I felt chilled out =D Had to use 2 different nicks because IE9 didn't work and moving to Chrome wouldn't let me use the previous one.
Like the others said above, would be nice if you could move a little faster.
The game crashes as soon as I run it. No diagnostic information given, sorry!
I really liked the idea, but found the actual pictures a little too hard ><
I am having a lot of fun with this, only thing that bothers me is the clipping on your sound effects. You can fix this in something like Audacity by doing a quick ( < 0.25s) fadeout
This is really great
Very unique, the breating box animation as a feedback signal was really cool. Do the traits they care about vary each playthrough?
I like the idea, set the conditions and just let the game play itself out. Would you consider maybe giving the player one chance to change orders? Would allow for more tactical depth
Very fun, serious bullet hell after a while though!
This is a cool idea, I think it would have been much more juicy with a couple of sound effects
Was very funny =D So far best is 15
Got to 25 before my hand started hurting =D Wanna play some more!
A really good entry, nice mechanic, things to learn, had fun, and great graphics!
Screenshots look cool but it doesn't get past the loading screen. Any diagnostic info I can give you?
Interesting feel, how did you achieve the scrolling effect?
I love this! This is so good =D
Very pretty, nice sound too. Simple but professional.
I like the idea, but I found it hard to aim away from the camera. This made the far enemies a little too tough :)
Nice idea, maybe a slightly smaller default resolution?
Hi Zuige, sorry I couldn't get it to work. I'll try and get a webplayer up ASAP.
Thanks for the nice comments all =D
sam1373 - I totally agree, there was supposed to be stuff you could do during the waves using the goldtower after level 3 but, 48 hours wasn't as long as I thought =C
I feel kinda happy that some people are like "TOO SLOW" and others are like "LOVE THE SPEED" :3
Hi Loerden, thanks for your comment =D I'm in this to learn how to be a better game maker, so I really welcome any feedback! What didn't you like about the balancing?
Thanks for the feedback blay09, I agree. I'll use all this for a post LD48 version =D
Best on your kind feedback, first post comp version is uploaded. This is mostly balancing and bug fixes. There is now a -sharp- spike in intensity post level 3, and it is very possible to lose now.
Spotline : Thanks for the comment, you are not supposed to be able to =D That must be a bug based on how I track pauses, sorry
Paranoiks Thanks for the comment. -1 is fixed in the post compo web version, as is the skipping prep phrase (press enter).
hypp : I know what you mean, so the post compo version kicks it up a notch =D Or several...
Thanks for the feedback SuperHamster. I'll tell you a secret, the firing in the wrong direction is the tower shooting at the object pool of enemies =D It's a bug, but at least it's one I don't feel too bad about. The towers realize there is a huge pile of immobile enemies just off screen and they try to kill them!
It was fun, crazy. When I went underground it was a bit tough to control with xy flipped. Then the game just kinda stopped? Good fun! Not sure if I am misisng something.
Well put together, but I felt it dragged on a little after the first month. The debates were the standouts, so would like more of them.
Interesting idea, really innovative.
Good idea, well executed. A zoom out option would be have been appreciated but basically my fav so far.
This kicks ass! More levels please. It's a swashbuckling hotline Miami.
lol =D
I like the style, another couple of levels and a bit of bgm would go a long way =D
Something totally new and fun =D
I like the control and ideas, felt the summon of 10s was a too long (I know its the theme though...).
I can't seem to pick up the (I guess) time boosts, so I always finish after only 10s.
I had a lot of fun with this!
Nice idea, also you should put the humor more front and center so it's easier to notice in 10s
Can't move left/right, only jump. Am I being dumb and missing something? If so sorry =/
I am not really sure what is going on, but I know I enjoyed it =D
Looks really good and feels well put together. Kinda tough!
Truly original idea. I think you could make something v good by extending this.
Crashes after 2-9 for me, but up until was a BLAST. This was really good and you should make more levels.
Nice idea, variation of worlds also cool. I only used the bullets on the last stage and they actually were the best part imo. Fast, felt powerful, could do more with those =D
That is a really innovative and cool idea. This would work really well as asynch multiplayer over the web.
A lot of little nice touches in this
I really enjoyed this. It felt really balanced and I was stressed out for the duration. Died on lvl 20... will play again.
Lots of fun =D
I get errors from the archive I download. Anyone else see them?
This is great fun!
The jellyfish density is too harsh vs the shark at latter part of the game, it's almost impossible to get off the floor.
Do another graphics pass and release this on iOS =D
Thanks all for the comments! and also the feedback about the effects.
Same as baykush, either I am shooting myself, or my team mates are shooting me. Can't get anywhere ><
Windows zip is corrupt?
I liked the idea, but it seems like the levels are procedural and also you can't charge enough to jump over the big rocks even if you start as soon as see them. This means you can't learn the level, and you can't respond to it either, which is a little frustrating.
I think there is something here, but it needs to the have the gameplay finished. The graphics have a kind of Bioshocky vibe =D
This is really solid all around. Great game.
I really liked this. I thought it was a bit samey until I realized it had all been a giant tutorial for the that last level and boss. The fight against Khan was genuinely stressful by the end when he starts dynamiting everything. Fun game.
I literally don't know how you do this every year ... Great game, really smooth movement and transitions. It doesn't have the jerkiness tile based games usually do. Sounds would have been nice but I am not gonna be greedy.
Very innovative. Don't believe I've ever played a puzzler with these mechanics before. This could be something worth making into a full project.
I loaded it up, clicked a computer, a blank screen came up that I couldn't click out of and no more inputs were accepted as far as I could work out. Did I miss something?
holy shit, well done
This game rules =D
Intro story is well told (I didn't quite get the last bit, was one guy smoking a joint?), game itself is fun, nice job!
I like this idea and think it could work well on a touch platform. Also adding some music would help the experience.
Can't start it up unfortunately.
I liked it, particularly the graphics and mode switch, but felt it was a bit overly unfair/hard.
The presentation and graphics are great.
I enjoyed this, played it through a couple of times.
Like others have said the camera aspect of play wasn't apparent to me. Also I think some of those crab placements go beyond hard into vindictive territory =D
I like this idea a lot. It's got this kind of quick diving to get to diamonds vs going slow to get points strategy.
