LD39 — Running out of Power

Scrap Metal by PixelJerry 2017-08-01T17:34:07Z

The buying units to upgrade approach is pretty nifty, and the controls are super intuitive on controller! Cool game.

Last Shine by Fran Segura 2017-08-01T19:21:51Z

The game has got great style. Lots of nice visual detail and good music!

HE BEAT HER. by Angela He 2017-08-01T17:15:31Z

Pretty incredible. The music is amazing, and really sets the tone. Obviously the art is very impressive. I'm not very good at it though, it's pretty difficult to think of the right words.

The Truth by Jolix 2017-08-01T19:16:53Z

Good score for accurate title.

Abandon Ship by Futil 2017-08-01T20:29:38Z

What a great 'vibe' this game has! Really neat graphical tricks give it a really cohesive feel. The game itself is challenging and has great animation.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

thanks, I hate it! by thristhart 2017-12-05T18:47:47Z

I love it. Weird games about infuriating interfaces are the best.

Loot & Looter by NickZangus 2017-12-05T21:38:35Z

This was a great jam game! It controls surprisingly well (slightly floaty) and is a pretty fun/unique physics-based mechanic. The graphical style is really nice and easy to read. I did find a bug where I floated up on top of a skeleton and got stuck in the ceiling.

Babies! Babies! Babies! by Local Minimum 2017-12-05T18:51:51Z

Horrifying and hilarious. Awesome visual style. Babies are terrifying.

The burden by mathijs750 2017-12-11T04:31:26Z

Really nice audio and atmosphere. Good flower / journey vibes. Nice graphics.

Honestly I know it's sticking to the theme, but the brightness became annoying and made it less fun to play. Also I was unsure what to do at a point-- I had a ton of lights and the direction it seemed I was supposed to go there was an invisible wall. Regardless, an impressive jam game!

Smile Corp by tinykidtoo 2017-12-07T22:47:38Z

Heh, funny game. Great theme. The GPS seems particularly clever!

Shiny Dream by Peredom 2017-12-05T21:47:35Z

I thought this was really fun! I liked all the upgrades. and cool enemy designs!

Penguin Royale by OWC 2017-12-05T20:00:16Z

I think I had a bug where sometimes my character would just start moving in a direction I wasn't pressing? Got me killed a few times. Unless I'm misunderstanding some other part of the game. Anyway, other than that it felt really good to play, the growing enemies were fun, the graphical style is really cool, I like the pixel art. Nice game!

Elden by red-fan-games 2017-12-05T22:09:09Z

Awesome looking game. Like a super low-res quake-meets-devil-daggers. I couldn't really understand the level well. There were things to jump on but i failed most jumps. I also found the sensitivity extremely low. But dope visual/audio design.

Muldulamulom by mase 2017-12-06T04:45:48Z

Man, I'm completely in love with the art style. What the hell is your process for that, is it all done by hand? 3d models -> render - > filter? photos?

Anyway, really stylish. I didn't love the physics/collision of the game to be honest. Anyway I'm definitely impressed and inspired by the graphics. I look forward to the updated version of the game.

Spacelitch by Flaterectomy 2017-12-05T19:47:54Z

I like how your own bullets can bounce and hurt you. I haven't seen that in a shmup before. Cool game!

Tentagraba by Huitre 2017-12-08T03:58:22Z

I thought this was great fun! Turns you into a real spagetti-fingers

Bomb Robot by BoxedMeatRevolution 2017-12-05T20:24:46Z

Unique game with a neat mechanic. A little difficult to learn but rewarding. I also got stuck on the 'neutrino' bomb, lol. I had a nice time with this one though. How many levels are there?

SUPER COP HERO by Finlal 2017-12-05T18:11:29Z

Clearly your art people know what they are doing! Nice game.

The Will of the Wisps by adsilcott 2017-12-05T18:19:09Z

The illustrations in this game are fantastic! Really great atmosphere. I liked how the music would amp up as the monster got closer.

Of a Feather by Gumboot 2017-12-05T18:08:21Z

Remarkably well thought out and polished for a jam game! The number of different hazards and whole idea of protecting the bird friends is clever. The art style is great and the animations are all top quality! Really good stuff, you should be proud!

Quadrilateral Damage by TheMadPangolin 2017-12-05T18:38:04Z

It's funny how as soon as I focus on trying to collect my bullets, I can't grab any of them. But if I just focus on dodging enemies and gunfire I feel like neo in the matrix and somehow grab my stuff back. Cool game! Definitely got me in that bullet-hell 'zone'. Played super smooth, the concept is unique and easy to pick up.

Go-Ned Re-education by devmax 2017-12-05T04:00:35Z

What a great vibe. Fun game (although I hurt too many ducks D:), with a cool aesthetic and great atmosphere.

Curse Collector by bridgs 2017-12-05T19:43:07Z

Cute graphics. I loaded into the second level invisible so I died... You should give it sound effects!

Disaster Strikes by sean.beyer 2017-12-11T04:40:40Z

The game wouldn't let me build the woodcutters? It kept saying on on landforest. I tried to build it on the forest tiles but it wouldn't work. I bought more land but there was no other forest type or anything so maybe it was a bug? Anyway I was unable to progress because of this.

I like the idea of this game a lot and would like to play it properly :/

Desert Express by TerraPass 2017-12-05T03:08:08Z

I love the graphics & animations! I wish there were multiple enemy types or multiple guns. Also repeatedly clicking got tiring, maybe an automatic weapon?

AdVasion by Vija02 2017-12-05T20:06:25Z

Heh, I actually had a similar idea early on but went with something else! Nice game, it got lots of chuckles from me.

CATSPLOSION by cfehunter 2017-12-05T20:12:14Z

Heh, cuteness overload! I liked the environment and the music was nice-- I would have loved the ability to move the camera, either pan it or rotate or zoom or something.

Grooblins! by ahintoflime 2017-12-05T17:33:33Z

@everyone: Thanks for the feedback! Glad people enjoyed it!

@botreats: fair enough! It isn't a real tamagochi style game, just wearing the skin of one :) I did play around with the actions having real effects but decided to make them ultimately meaningless. LOL. Anyway, thanks for playing.

Grooblins! by ahintoflime 2017-12-07T18:18:20Z

@everyone who played! thank you! I had a ton of fun making Grooblins :) follow me on itch / twitter / whatever. gonna address some people individually here but I can't do everybody lol

@ksbdude Thank you! It would be neat to have it go on infinitely but I ultimately decided I'd rather tell a complete story, and have it not outstay it's welcome (ie not take more than a few minutes to play).

@bobo-games oh god! typos always haunt my games! If only I had time to actually proofread properly! Anyway, thanks for playing! :)

@corc0 You're totally right about tween animations. At one point though, I wasn't sure if I would have time to do any animation at all so I was glad to get what I could into the game :) Glad you liked the game tho. I liked doing all the menus / text / characters!

@kingofwhawha Thank you! I did all the art in a stream-of-conciousness kinda thing in one sitting. I handed off the art and my friend bond did animations for a few of them (chatter, pyra, cronch)

@taldius Thanks! Undertale was possibly a subconscious inspiration haha

@amigopadilha thank you!

@roy87 I don't have an indieexpo page (I'll look into it?) but you can follow me on itch.io or twitter ! @ahintoflime on everything.

@Willisika grooblins = trouble! more = bad :P Also we had more audio finished I just literally didn't have time to get it into the game :/

@aaronw thanks! deciding on the colorscheme was difficult for me, but it was always a nice break from programming to adjust the UI / art etc. I love stuff like that.

@trabitboy thank you! it's always a fight against time, I just wanted to tell a 'complete' story if possible

@Lapapagena Thank you! I didn't have earthbound in mind when making it but looking at it now I definitely see it's influence on me haha. Thanks for playing :)

Rattendorf by NoAim91 2017-12-05T20:32:42Z

I absolutely love the art style of the game. I like the idea of the gameplay too, but didn't have a ton of fun playing it-- maybe it just needs a hand-hold-ey tutorial section or maybe more visual feedback on what you are doing as you play. It's very static to look at and hard to decipher what needs to be done.

ESCAPE KEY by Empyrean 2017-12-09T23:31:58Z

Neat game, nice art. Interesting main mechanic, but kind of frustrating to play? Good puzzles though, and unique! Good rating from me.

IDEA! by BetaNab99 2017-12-05T16:48:31Z

I like the character sprites and some of the visual effects are really cool.

That said I didn't totally understand what I was doing it or why. Also the controls were too floaty-- I wouldn't be able to dodge the books or whatever even if I was trying!

Poetry Slammer by peanutboyz 2017-12-05T17:45:05Z

Voice acting in a jam-game? Impressive! The ambient audio was great, and I loved the character designs, etc. I like that it was short, didn't waste the players time. Cool stuff.

Ice Cream Island by spaceturtle 2017-12-05T18:26:37Z

The graphical style is totally great-- clean, bright, colorful. Nice combination of 2D and 3D. I especially love the zoom in on a new seagull when you pick up ice cream.

I didn't love the physics of jumping around. Way too easy to get too much momentum, screw up a jump without any way to correct. A double jump might be cool? And obviously sound would contribute a lot to the game!

Forgotten Machines by SaphireS 2017-12-09T23:19:52Z

I love the pixel-art 3d look, I think it looks great! I played the HTML5 button-- if I started clicking while moving the movement would bug out and stick to one direction, and the firing would happen erratically. Neat looking game tho!

Too Many Bears by Rajin 2017-12-05T04:27:19Z

Great graphics, animation, "feeling" etc. I did fall through the level halfway through and have to relaunch though!

Gophergeddon by Ham and Swiss 2017-12-05T22:16:49Z

Hehe, I like the turn it takes at the end. Definitely fun to play with the balance of the 'ecosystem'. Neat game!

The Blacksmith by darefus 2017-12-05T17:10:32Z

Wow, I was really impressed by this. Delightfully surreal, threatening tone. Funny, fucked up writing. Choices with consequences.

That said, it took me a minute to figure out how to play, what to do, and what the controls were. Adding a quick tutorial message in game would be nice! Also the camera can go all the way upside down, lol. (played with controller).

Anyways, neat-ass game. Probably my favorite I've played so far.

Get to the CHOPPA! by Girts Kesteris 2017-12-05T17:59:39Z

High-fidelity realistic military audio. Good stuff.

The Agenda by Juh Champ 2017-12-05T16:44:29Z

I like the way you visualize this earth under control-- literally trapped, alone, a lie. Neat ideas too, I like the way you can interact, I just wish there was more visual interaction when you accomplished stuff. It felt incomplete, like it needs more mechanics in place to be a proper game. I really like the premise though, the ideas you have going and all the interfaces are nice!

Mineirinho by rmc 2017-12-05T19:55:02Z

The controls are a little awkward, and it wasn't clear what was an enemy, objective, etc. I like the character design though and it seems like a solid start!

The Quiet Mind by broccoli 2017-12-05T22:00:35Z

It's got that classic 'punishingly difficult' quality :) Along with nice music and a beautiful tileset. Cool game!

LD52 — Harvest

BEE A GOOD BEE: And Fetch Me Some Pollen by ahintoflime 2023-01-11T00:11:03Z

Thanks everyone for your comments and feedback! I won't overdo it and respond to everyone individually but heres a few haha. I have passed on all the very nice comments about the music to Trevor :)

@breadstick Oh man I screwed up the camera position at one point and never fixed it.... oops! Could do with being better centered and maybe slightly zooming out when moving fast.

@owca wow very high score!!

@amarokczukay yes I found that bug after uploading and was too exhausted to try and fix it LOL. sorry about that.

@jajakeim and @chompdev I'm a huge fan of Godot but the game I'm working on for a living as a 3D artist rn uses Unity so I'd figure I'd start my journey on getting familiar with it. I am still a Godot lover and I haven't "switched over" I'm just expanding my skillset :)

BEE A GOOD BEE: And Fetch Me Some Pollen by ahintoflime 2023-01-14T18:05:22Z

@better-half great feedback, agreed all-round and thanks!

@profan oh hey there :D thanks for playin bud

Ethereal Fruits by Manan 2023-01-09T23:17:07Z

What a unique game and such a vibe. I love the odd fruits and their kind of mini-games. And procedural tree building in godot?? I love it. Also if you made the skybox you must tell me how it's gorgeous.

Drake's Fortune by chompdev 2023-01-13T17:00:34Z

Really fun and satisfying, great game loop. It's not insanely innovative nor does it have flashy graphics but this is such an unambiguously promising game, one of my favorites for sure.

Cookie Typer! by Minos_L2b 2023-01-09T23:20:47Z

I got a little confused and thought I had to type to use the abilities, nope LOL. Nice little trainer for typing and a good idea for a game, you should flesh it out more!

Children of the Combine by MilkWine 2023-01-10T16:25:28Z

The narrator was hilarious and well done, and the graphics are super charming. L-R seem to be incorrect/switched when backing up, at least if you think of it from a wheel-turning perspective like a car. I enjoyed the laid back wacky vibe of it all, yall did a great job.

Moon Harvester by owca 2023-01-09T23:43:17Z

I could definitely see this game getting fleshed out and expanded-- the mechanics here are promising. You've constructed a very impressive game in such a short time! It strikes a particular tone and was genuinely addictive, and it looks amazing for a game made in 48 hours.

A Necromancer's Guide To Happy Farming by TRUEchips 2023-01-09T23:34:20Z

Wow, I can tell playing this yall were having a BLAST making it lol. Full of character and humor and oh my god the quantity of writing in here is insane. I didn't have a huge amount of time to play so I didn't get further than a few days in but it has really nice art and a fun casual vibe, I loved it.

Les Fleurs du Mars by tttt 2023-01-09T23:24:36Z

Nice idea for a game, suits the theme well. Sometimes I found it a little finnicky to get the scissors in the right place to cut. How did you do the flowers, are those 3d-rendered sprites?

Juicy Reaping by Kita 2023-01-09T23:10:36Z

This was really great! I loved how much character and humor it had in the little touches like the stretch/squash animations, the helicopter melons LOL. I got 30 points. I was mostly just running around spamming to plant and pick up seed without much thought. This game was the first one I've played in my ratings so far and was super impressive to me, high ratings in every category!

Collector of _ by Jujus 2023-01-10T16:31:00Z

The push and pull mechanic is quite good, it gives you a lot of room to design fun areas and it gives the player a lot of freedom on how to traverse them. Flesh it out! I think the controls are slightly awkward and the collision for the attacks doesn't line up to the visuals but this is a pretty fantastic project you've made here! And I haven't even touched on the sprites and backgrounds which are gorgeous.
